Abstract

Feminist pedagogy is one of strategies to reach gender equality in education process whether in the family, school or society. Implementing feminist pedagogy not only benefits women’s lives better but also men’s as well as childrens’ lives. For me, feminist pedagogy and the struggle of gender equality is not only just as a slogan but it must be implemented on daily basis. This paper explores my experiences in implementing feminist pedagogy in family, school, and community. I argues that every single experience is worthy and recogined as a theory. This article is based on library research and a reflection from my experiences. The author has been marriage for 19 years, become a lecturer for 20 years and been involved as a woman activist for 23 years in Muhammadiyah’s woman organization, Aisyiyah. In every implementation of feminist pedagogy, I face challenges from audiences which relates to a variety of gender thought in the society. Based on testimonies from my spouse, students also audiences, it can be cocluded that the implementation of feminist pedagogy lead to the convenience in the process of transferring knowledge. It also contributes to change their perspective into Islamic progressive thought.

Abstract

The problem of unwanted pregnancy, better known as abortion, is not easy to solve. This article discusses the differing opinions toward the issue of abortion. Abortion is a multidimensional and controversial issue, particularly when it is carried out for social reasons. This article claims that abortion may cause a psychological burden for clients undergoing the procedure, both before and after the event. The doctors, nurses and people who assist them may also feel this psychological burden. As such, before performing an abortion, for whatever reason, clients should have access to counselling as an effort to safeguard their reproductive health.

Abstract

Setiap manusia yang hidup di dunia ini semestinya mempunyai hak yang sama untuk mendapatkan  kebutuhan-kebutuhan dasarnya. Namun demikian realitasnya tidak seperti itu. Kelompokkelompok marginal seperti kelompok LGBT akan banyak mendapatkan diskriminasi. Bahkan pendiskriminasian itu sering dilegitimasi sebagai kutukan Tuhan di dunia. Tulisan ini akan mendiskusikan bagaimana Islam dan ummat Islam melihat fenomena homoseksualitas baik dari sisi teologis maupun sosiologisnya. Kelompok yang tidak setuju dengan keberadaan kaum gay ini, berargumen bahwa itu adalah penyimpangan sedangkan kelompok yang peduli melihat bahwa untuk menjadi gay, waria ataupun lesbi bukanlah pilihan dia tetapi itu juga  pemberian dari Tuhan,karena itu tidak adil jika mereka diperlakukan tidak adil dari apa yang terjadi pada mereka yang sebenarnya mereka tidak minta. Perbedaan ini tidak lepas dari pendekatan yang digunakan dalam memahami text-text keagamaan.

Abstract

Pola komunikasi agresif diduga memiliki kaitan yang erat dengan pemikiran keagamaan. Termasuk di dalamnya isu-isu gender yang sering disalahpahami oleh kelompok radikalis. Media yang dimilki oleh kelompok-kelompk konservatif sering menggunakan bahasa agresif dalam menanggapi masalah gender dan feminisme. Tujuan penelitian inin adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana sensitivitas gender dan pola komunikasi serta hubungan antara keduanya pada mahasiwa dan mahasiswi UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Methode penelitian mendekatan pendekatan diskriptif kuantitatif dana analisis Independent T-test dari program SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Tingkat sensitivitas gender mahasiswa UIN Sunan Kalijaga adalah sedang, artinya sebagian besar mahasiswa UIN bersikap moderat. Namun jika dilihat per Item, akan menunjukkan variasi tingkat sensitivitasnya. Mahasiswa akan cenderung mempunyai tingkat sensitivitas yang tinggi jika persoalan gendernya tidak terkait dengan hukum atau pengadilan, misalnya masalah peran dan kodrat mempunyai kecenderungan yang tinggi. Sedangkan masalah yang terkait dengan pengadilan agama, seperti saksi, warisan, dan poligami, mahasiswa cenderung berhati-hati. Pola komunikasi mahasiswa UIN Sunan Kalijaga adalah asertif. Asertif adalah pola komunikasi terbaik dimana komunikasi berjalan terbuka, individu menghargai diri sendiri dan orang lain. Komunikasi asertif tidak menaruh perhatian pada hasil akhir tetapi juga hubungan perasaan antar manusia. Dengan demikian, mayoritas mahasiswa UIN Sunan Kalijaga memiliki pola komunikasi yang sangat baik. Hipotesis dalam penelitian ini tidak teruji dimana secara umum tidak ada hubungan antara sensitivitas gender dengan pola komunikasi. Namun jika diurai satu per satu, pada beberapa kasus seperti yang dapat dilihat pada mahasiswa angkatan lama, sensitivitas gender memiliki pengaruh terhadap pola komunikasi, sekalipun tidak signifikan.[The aggressive communication patterns are believed to have a close connection with religious thought. It includes the gender issues which often be misunderstood by radical groups. The media of conservative groups tend to use aggressive language in responding toward gender and feminism problems. The objective of this research is to observe how gender sensitivity, communication patterns, and those relations among the students of Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University. The method of this research is quantitative descriptive approach by using Independent T-test analysis of the SPSS program. The result of this research shows that the level of gender sensitivity of UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s students is moderate, but there are variations in its level of sensitivity. Students will tend to have a high level of sensitivity if their gender issues are not related to law or court, such as the sexual roles in the society. However, they tend to be cautious if the problem is related to religious courts, such as witnesses, inheritance, and polygamy. The communication patterns of UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s students are assertive. Assertive is the best communication pattern because the individuals respect themselves and others. Assertive communication does not only beware to the end of the result but also the feeling of a relationship between humans. Therefore, it indicates that the majority of Sunan Kalijaga UIN students have excellent communication patterns. The hypothesis in this study is rejected because generally there are no relations between gender sensitivity and communication patterns. However, if the case is analyzed one by one, some of the cases in senior students, gender sensitivity has an influence on communication patterns, even though it is insignificant.]

Abstract

The current political activity of women has become a meaningful conversation. Women have shown their existence as an important part of society that has and gives a positive meaning in the development of state and nation. Similarly, presented by Muslimat NU in Tegal District Election of Tegal District, Muslimat NU appear in front of the real to participate politically so that Pemilukada become an important moment in history as proof of their success. Through a gender approach to the theory of political communication, this article attempts to describe what the NU Muslimat motivates in the succession of the Tegal Regency Election of 2013, then how the political communication is built so that the effort succeeds in achieving its targets, as well as what factors are able to build political communication between them. The method used is interview and observation. The results of this study indicate that Umi Azizah, the elected vice-regent with an effective communication approach and his credibility and capital as a community activist for 20 years can take part in the political world substantially and can win the election with no money politics. Kiprah politik perempuan dewasa ini telah menjadi perbincangan yang cukup berarti. Perempuan telah menunjukkan keberadaaannya sebagai bagian penting dari masyarakat yang memiliki dan memberi arti positif dalam pembangunan negara dan bangsa. Begitu pula yang ditampilkan oleh Muslimat NU pada Pemilukada 2013 Kabupaten Tegal, ikut berpartisipasi politik dalam Pemilukada dan itu menjadi momen penting dalam sejarah sebagai bukti akan kesuksesan mereka. Melalui pendekatan gender dengan teori komunikasi politik, artikel ini berupaya untuk mendeskripsikan apa yang menjadi motivasi Muslimat NU dalam suksesi Pemilukada Kabupaten Tegal Tahun 2013, kemudian bagaimana komunikasi politik yang dibangun sehingga upaya tersebut berhasil mencapai targetnya, serta faktor-faktor apa saja yang mampu menghidupkan serta membangun komunikasi politik di antara mereka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Umi Azizah, wakil bupati terpilih dengan pendekatan komunikasi yang efektif serta kredibiltasnya serta modal sebagai penggiat masyarakat selama 20 tahun mampu berkiprah di dunia politik secara subtantif dan dapat memenangkan pemilukada tanpa politik uang. Muslimat, Nahdhatul Ulama, Politik, Komunikasi Politik.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a very serious impact, because it is very massive, which has occurred in almost all countries and at all levels and groups of society. Disasters have a strong social dimension, especially in relation to vulnerability which often intersects with existing social stratification. In various disasters, women are among the groups most vulnerable to being affected, especially if the patriarchal culture is still strong and intertwined with misogynistic interpretations of religion and an economic and political system that is not friendly to women. This paper looks at the extent of the impacts of this pandemic on women, and how state regulations exist to deal with these impacts, as well as what efforts are being made by women both individually and in groups. This research was conducted by collecting documentation from various research results that have been conducted by several institutions, observation and interviews with several women at various levels and backgrounds. The results of this study indicate that women are the most vulnerable group and most affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic. Although it was a bit late, the government involved women in decision-making with a special mandate, regarding the handling of women, children and vulnerable groups. Women's experiences both individually and colletively through organizations in respond to this pandemic deserve paresiasi. Women in a pandemic situation have uniqueness in dealing with a pandemic in a more creative, resilient manner and also implementing a sisterhood.

Abstract

A house husband refers to the involvement of a husband or father in household and parenting tasks. This research aims to reveal the phenomenon of house husbands and examine the attitudes of government, religious, and community leaders toward this flexible gender role. This study employs mixed methods, including a survey of 100 respondents (50 men and 50 women), in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and documentation. The research found that the trend of house husbands is increasing. This indicates that the patriarchal culture, which assigns domestic and nurturing tasks exclusively to women, is becoming less relevant. The rising number of house husbands aligns with the increasing participation of women in economic activities. The self-concept of husbands and wives shows a significant positive correlation with their attitudes toward the house husband phenomenon. The more positive their attitudes are toward this phenomenon, the happier they tend to be. Religious, community, and government leaders generally do not object to husbands' participation in domestic and parenting tasks. However, most respondents still believe that the leader of the family is the male or husband, except in specific situations—such as when the husband is seriously ill—that necessitate the reversal of roles. [House husband (suami ‘rumahan’) mengacu pada keterlibatan seorang suami atau ayah dalam tugas-tugas rumah tangga dan pengasuhan anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap fenomena house husband dan menganalisis sikap pemerintah, tokoh agama, serta tokoh masyarakat terhadap fenomena peran gender yang fleksibel ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran, termasuk survei terhadap 100 responden (50 laki-laki dan 50 perempuan), wawancara mendalam, diskusi kelompok terfokus (FGD), dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tren house husband mengalami peningkatan. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa budaya patriarki, yang menetapkan tugas domestik dan pengasuhan hanya sebagai tanggung jawab perempuan, semakin tidak relevan. Peningkatan jumlah house husband sejalan dengan meningkatnya partisipasi perempuan dalam kegiatan ekonomi. Konsep diri suami dan istri memiliki korelasi positif yang signifikan dengan sikap mereka terhadap fenomena house husband. Semakin positif sikap mereka terhadap fenomena ini, semakin tinggi tingkat kebahagiaan mereka. Para tokoh agama, masyarakat, dan pemerintah pada umumnya tidak mempermasalahkan partisipasi suami dalam tugas-tugas rumah tangga maupun pengasuhan anak. Namun, sebagian besar responden masih berpendapat bahwa kepala keluarga adalah laki-laki atau suami, kecuali dalam situasi tertentu—seperti ketika suami mengalami sakit parah—yang mengharuskan peran tersebut diambil-alih oleh perempuan.]
