Abstract

This research aims at investigating history learning in SMA negeri 3 Kota Gorontalo and studens’cognitive ability at SMA Negeri 3 Gorontalo. This research applies descriptive quantitative and qualitative method. Findings reveal that : firstly, a teacher has tried to cteate interaction in the learning process in the clasroom. However, the learning process is not appropriate to the lesson plan. The teacher should apply various methods to attract students’ interest. Then, the teacher needs to apply learning media. The application of learning media in history learning can give its own meaning. Without using learning media, the students will have not interst and be bored. during learning practice. Secondly, the teacher should be able to encourage the studens to think critically in learning. it is showed by the implementation of the learning process which has not yet facilitated students to improve their critical thiking ability. The critical thiking ability can provide a guideline in performing a taks to improve students’cognitive ability.

Abstract

This study aims to introduce local history teaching materials (modules) to students of SMA Negeri 1 Gorontalo. By using qualitative descriptive methods, this study seeks to explore student’s understanding of the importance of understanding local history conducted into teaching materials. Based on the research finding, students strongly needed local history teaching materials to understanding the history of Gorontalo collectively. From the results of interviews done to history teachers and students, it can be concluded that it is really important to use teaching materials as a companion of textbooks that have been used in the process of learning history. In addition, the results of interviews done to students it is obtained taht there is a complaint of the of textbooks as a learning media of history, without applying a varied learning process.
