Abstract

This thesis is analyzes about SPEAKING in film La La Land. the purpose of this research is to explain SPEAKING factors that happen in the film. This research uses descriptive qualitative method because the data are in the forms of utterances.This research is done by some steps, they are data collecting, data analyzing and data presentation. In technique of collecting the data, the writer uses the non participant observational method. The implementation of this method is realized through downloading and note technique. In technique of analyzing the data, the writer uses identity method and referential identity method. The data are presented through informal method.The result of the research by using ethnography of communication  as an approach in  La La Land film shows some which are includes complaining, ordering, confiding, getting fired, agreement, casting audition, disappointment, and argument. Each of these situation, in turn were affected by SPEAKING factors as Hymes suggested which are the  setting, the participants, their ends, the instrument, the norms  and the genre of the communication. The writer takes 11 data from the film. the writer concludes that La La Land film shows some situation which are includes complaining and ordering that are common to be happen in a shop as seen in the film. Key words : SPEAKING Factors, La La Land,  Ethnography of  Communication

Abstract

The writer analysis about meanings and illocutionary function as found in Indonesia tourism advertisements. The purpose of this research is to explain meanings and illocutionary function in Indonesia tourism advertisement based on Dell Hymes’s theory (1974) and Searle’s theory (1969).  The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative method. Technique used in collecting the data is non-observational technique in which the writer only acts as observer and proceed the research by downloading several advertisement about Indonesia tourism and classify words or phrases containing illocutionary function and meanings. On the other hand, method used to analyze the data is referential method. And other that, the data is concluded and displayed by using formal and informal method, where the result of analysis is explained in written form along with the pictures of the tourism advertisements.The results of the analysis are 11 data that have been found, the data are described based on the context of S-P-E-A-K-I-N-G Hymes (1974). Therefore, the 11 data contain an illocutionary function in each of the data, among them are 4 data having directive function, 4 data commissives function, 2 assertive function and 1 expressive function. Out of 11 data found, there are two function illocutionary functions that appeared, which are directive and commissives functions.Keywords: Pragmatics, Illocutionary Act, Context, Advertisements.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are: (1) to explain the types of imperative sentence in Jangkat Isolect especiallyDanau Pauh village. (2) to describe the function of imperative sentence in Jangkat Isolect community; and (3) toexplain the structure of sentences (syntax) of imperative sentences that found in Jangkat Isolect. This research usesdescriptive qualitative method. A source of data in this research is imperative sentences in Jangkat Isolect community.This research is divided in three procedures; they are collection the data, analyzing the data, and presenting the data.In collecting the data, data are gathered by observation method and interview method. Meanwhile, the main techniquein collecting the data is eliciting technique, which is continued by several techniques, i.e. recording technique and notetechnique. The main technique in observation method is participant observational method which is continued byadvanced note technique. In analyzing the data, the research is done by using distributional method, translationalmethod, and referential method. The results of the analysis are provided by formal and informal methods.Keywords: Imperative, Sentence, Syntax, Isolect, Jangkat, Danau Pauh.

Abstract

This research analyzes about the suffragettes’ story in campaigning women’s suffrage as reflected in Suffragette film. The purposes of this research are to explain bad treatments over women in male – dominated society, to describe the struggles of the suffragettes in suffragettes’ campaign pursuing the “votes for women” and the related history facts toward suffragettes’ campaign. In analyzing the research, the writer uses feminist literary criticism and some supporting theories. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data is formed in words and pictures. The data is analyzed through four procedures: identifying, classifying, analyzing and making conclusion. The results of this research are bad treatments over women in male – dominated society: women’s stereotyping, inequality in the workplace, and women’s subordination in marriage. Later, the writer finds out the struggle and the suffering of these women in campaigning women’s suffrage: consciousness – raising, peaceful campaign, and militant campaign; the last, the writer finds some related history facts toward suffragettes’ campaign as reflected in Suffragette film. Key words: Struggle, Suffering, Suffragette, Women’s suffrage campaign, Feminism, History

Abstract

This study is the result of a study which consists of the researcher’s description about the Napoleon’s character that as a round (complex) character as depicted in the novel Animal Farm written by George Orwell. In this study, the researcher uses Descriptive research involves collecting data in order to unscrew question concerning current status of subject the research is once the way to collect the data on our subject. Thus, this study is simply an appreciation of the novel which is presented in the descriptive form which is qualitative in nature. The main analysis consists of several points: The aggressive shrew character that becomes early leader of Animal Farm. After he successfully eliminates “Snowball” that is becomes his rival, he gradually increases his personal power and privileges, while simultaneously tightening the control over the other characters in Animal Farm. By seizing onto a populist revolution and turning it into his personal regime. Napoleon itself is a board as a symbol of crafty character that reflect on Russian regime, and also another characterization of human characteristic and animal characteristic.
