Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang analisis penggunaan morfem derivasional dalam berita yang dipilih dalam surat kabar The Jakarta Post. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi jenis afiksasi derivasi morfem yang digunakan dalam berita bisnis yang dipilih dalam surat kabar The Jakarta Post pada edisi tanggal 09,10,11, dan 12 November tahun 2022. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti mencari dan memilih 5 berita bisnis dalam koran The Jakarta Post untuk mendapatkan data. Instrumen pengumpulan data adalah observasi dan analisis dokumen. Penulis menemukan ada 107 data untuk afiksasi turunan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa jenis derivasi afiks yang digunakan pada surat kabar Jakarta Post adalah prefiks, sufiks, dan sirkumfiks. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jumlah total masing-masing jenis dengan prefiks 4,70%, sufiks 89,70%, dan sirkumfiks 5,60%. Jenis morfem derivasional yang dominan adalah sufiks sebesar 89,70%. Manfaat penelitian ini membuat pembaca lebih mudah memahami struktur sebuah kata, sehingga tidak bingung dalam menentukan arti kata yang digunakan untuk dalam berbagai konteks, khususnya pada surat kabar The Jakarta Post.

Abstract

The accuracy its very important when does translation activity, in this modern life many people using the Google Translate to help them translating a word, phrase, or a sentence, but sometimes it can be meaningless or not accurate. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate how accurately Google Translate has translated English verb tenses into Indonesian. This study used a qualitative method to reasearch the accuracy. The data's primary source was a translation that was produced by Google. The source of the data from the subtitles of The Boss Baby. There were numerous methods used to get the data, including: 1).Downloaded the Movie of The Boss Baby from the internet and, 2). The researcher selected 30 data of verb phrases from subtitle of The Boss Baby and make it in the table. To analyze the data, the techniques were : The raw data will be translated from Source Language (English) to Target Language (Indonesian) by Google Translate and then, The researcher analyzed the data by using Moorkens based on Nababan (2018:59), There were three types of translation: accurate, less accurate, and inaccurate. The results of this research showed that out of 30 pieces of data, 25 had accurate translations, 3 had less accurate translations, and 2 had inaccurate translations. The researcher reached the conclusion that Google Translate's translation of English verb tenses was correct.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find a solution to a phenomenon that is often found in junior high school students, that is reading argumentative texts. In this problem area, there are still many students who have difficulty understanding argumentative texts. This research was conducted in grade 7 off SMP Gajah Mada The participants in this study were students grade 7 from SMP Gajah Mada class A. the technique of selecting the sample is overall, where all members of the population have an equal and independent opportunity to be included in the research. Data collecting technique in this study will be carried out by testing. The test is conduct to find out how far students' understanding of argumentative text, The test is the first instrument, and it consist of 10 multiple choice questions. The result of this research indicate that the total score obtained by students from the test given is 1.170 with the mean score of 46,8 dan from the questionnaire the total students’ test score is 22 with the mean score of 4,4. The total students test score is 1.170 an the total of students observation score is 22, so the mean was 53,1. the ability of students in grade 7 of SMP Gajah Mada in reading argumentative text is considered still in developing stage.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of Wattpad online reading application by using SPE method on students’ into English reading skill. This research conducted by using quasi experimental research. The subject of this research is class of 8th SMP HKBP SIDORAME which consists of 20 students. The class was divided in two groups, namely experimental class which had been taught by Wattpad application with SPE method and control class which had been taught by conventional class The data were analyzed by using t-test formula .The finding indicates that the value of t-test exceeds the value of t-table (5,87 > 2,101), at the level of significant p = 0,05 and the degree freedom df = 18. The finding implies that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. In order words, there is a significant effect of using Wattpad online reading application into students’ English reading skill by using Structure – Proposition - Evaluation (SPE) method.”

Abstract

The objective of this research is to examine the narrative writing skill for ninth-grade students at SMP Swasta Gajah Mada is significantly impacted by using of Project-Based Learning (PjBL). The study used a quasi-experimental design that included pre-test and post-test with two groups: an experimental group and a control group. Examining whether students' writing abilities increase when project-based learning is implemented is the study's main goal. There were fifteen students assigned to each group (IX A and IX B) at SMP Swasta Gajah Mada, for a total of thirty students engaged in the study. Participants in the data collection process were given written tests. The results of this study show that project-based learning have a beneficial effect on ninth-grade students’ ability to write narratives at SMP Swasta Gajah Mada. The fact that students in the experimental group scored higher on average once project-based learning was implemented lends credence to this. In addition, the data gathered for this research show a normal distribution. Based on the analysis conducted by using T-test was gotten that T-count = 3,28 at significant level α = 5%, dk (n-1) = (15-1) = 14, so, T-table = 1,76. It could be concluded that T-count > T-table (3,28>1.76). It implied that Ha had been accepted and Ho had been denied. It claimed that the skills of the students before and after using the project-based learning teaching approach differed significantly.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of figurative language used in the album Healer by Casting Crowns and the dominant types of figurative language found in the album. The method used in this research is the descriptive-qualitative method. This research uses Harun's theory (2019). The researcher found seven types of figurative language used in the album Healer by Casting Crowns, such as hyperbole, irony, metaphor, personification, simile, litotes, metonymy and Synecdoche. This study aims data was collected by reading the lyrics of the album song Healer by Casting Crowns. On the album Healer by Casting Crowns, there is hyperbole (7 data points), personification (1 data ), and irony (1 data ), Sarcasm (0), Synecdoche (3 data), Satire (1 data), Metaphor (0 data), Metonymy (18 data), Simile (0 data), and Litotes (1 data). This study found that the most dominant types of figurative language were metonymy with a percentage of 56.25%, followed by hyperbole with a percentage of 21.85%, personification (3.13%), irony (3.13%), sarcasm (0%), synecdoche (9.38%), satire (3.13%), metaphor (0%), metonymy (56.25%), simile (0%), and litotes (3.13%). Of these percentages, researchers can conclude that the most dominant data is metonymy (56.25%), and the smallest are three types of figurative language, namely sarcasm (0%), metaphor (0%), and simile (0%). Abstract

This study aims to observe and analyzed the used of politeness strategies that occur in verbal interactions in the classroom in junior high schools. This study applies a descriptive qualitative research design to observe and analyze the politeness strategies used by teachers to students in their interactions. Participants in this study were one English teacher and 30 students. The data in this study were in the form of utterances containing politeness strategies. Data were taken from English lessons for 90 minutes through direct observation and analysis. The findings of the study showed that there were a total of 60 excerpts containing three politeness strategies: Blind on record Strategy, Positive politeness Strategy and Negative politeness Strategy. The most dominant is bold on record with 31 data.

Abstract

Modality is an important aspect in the functional grammar system, which is used to express the speaker's attitude towards what he say. In the haliday approach, modality describes various degrees of certainty, desire, permission, or need that the speaker shows in a sentence. researchers focus on analyzing student speech. In this study, the researcher used descriptive and qualitative research methods. Based on the results of the analysis applied, researcher found 44 data points from both types, namely Modalization and Modulation. Modalization has a percentage of 25%, while Modulation data has a percentage of 19%. From the research results, the most dominant thing students say when speaking is the type of modalization. the researcher can understand the extent to which students master the use of modality in speaking English, as well as how they choose modal verbs to adjust tone and meaning in various communication situations. It can also provide insight into areas where students may need more training

Abstract

Google Translate is an automatic translation service that has become a very popular and useful tool for various cross-language communication purposes. Human translation is also the process of translating text from one language to another using human expertise, language knowledge, and cultural understanding. This research aims to investigate the accuracy between Google Translate and Human Translation. This research uses and applies Nababan's theory (2012) and the research design uses qualitative methods with case study. The data in this research (clause) were taken from Bilingual books with folklore data sources entitled "An Ant and A Grasshopper" and "Singosari Temple". In this study, translations from Google Translate and Human Translations were assessed by 3 raters. The results of this research are : 1. The accuracy of human translation has an average score of 1,5 which is categorized as less accurate. 2. The accuracy of Google Translate has an average score of 1,7 which is categorized less accurate, so the Google Translate translation score is higher compared to human translation scores
