Abstract

The water and sediment caused by heavy metal has become a major problem in coastal areas. Heavy metals released into the water binds to particulate matter, accumulate into sediments and its predicted by the pollution assessment method. The aims of this research was to investigate the distribution and contamination levels of Pb in water and sediments of Bondet Estuary. Water and sediments samples were collected from four stations in September 2020. The monitoring data of water quality status, contamination factor (CF), and geo-accumulation index (Igeo) were used to provide a assessment of the Pb contamination. The concentration of Pb in water at all stations (0,024-0,031 mg/L) was higher than the standard surface water, with the status is lightly polluted (class B). CF index for all stations 1 ≤ CF <3 indicates moderate Pb contamination in the sediment, while Igeo for each station is <0, which means no contamination. Overall when referring to some guidelines for sediment standards, Pb concentrations at all stations were still below the standard value for sediment. This study provides a basis for assessing future conditions and risks, so that it can contribute to the management and evaluation of heavy metal contamination in the Bondet Estuary.

Abstract

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias batrachus) is a type of freshwater cultured fish that is quite popular with the public. However, with the abundance of fishery products in Indonesia, it is inversely proportional to the consumption of protein in Indonesian people who do not meet the Adequacy of Nutrition Standards. Cendol is a typical Indonesian drink made from hunkwe flour with incomplete nutritional content. In order to increase the fish consumption of the Indonesian people, the authors are interested in conducting research on the addition of catfish (Clarias batrachus) animal protein to the manufacture of cendol and its effect on the panelist's preference level and protein content. This study aims to determine the effect of adding catfish (Clarias batrachus) to the production of cendol on the level of preference and protein content. The research method used was an experimental method with 30 panelists and 3 treatments, the percentage of catfish meat was 20%, 30%, 40%. The parameters observed were hedonic scale sensory tests and cendol protein levels with the addition of catfish. The results showed that the addition of catfish meat in the manufacture of cendol had an effect on aroma, taste and texture. The best cendol according to consumer acceptance based on sensory tests of color, aroma and taste parameters was in treatment A (addition of catfish meat percentage of 20%), while the best texture was in treatment B (addition of catfish meat percentage of 30%). The catfish cendol had the best protein content in treatment C (addition of 40% catfish meat) which was 1.53%.

Abstract

The development of the industrial sector has caused many changes in environmental quality, including the natural stone industry in Cirebon Regency. Water pollution that occurs is mostly caused by the disposal of waste to the river. Wastewater containing sludge causes changes in water quality including turbidity, high total and suspended solids, and sedimentation. The purpose of this study was to examine the condition of water quality and the status of river pollution due to the disposal of natural stone industrial waste using the STORET method and the pollution index. As a result, the concentration of TSS reached 1,042.33 mg/L and has exceeded the class III quality standard based on Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. Pollution status based on the STORET method shows stations 1 and 2 are in the moderately polluted category, while station 3 is included in the category of lightly polluted. Meanwhile, based on the pollution index method, each station is included in the lightly polluted category. The results of both the STORET and the pollution index showed that station 2 had the highest score. Thus, efforts to treat waste from natural stone industrial activities are needed to reduce the rate of increase in river pollution.
