Abstract

Universal design is an approach that aims to create products, buildings, environments and services that are inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender or physical ability. In its development, universal design has been widely used in planning and architectural design. This research aims to discover how the development of the universal design paradigm from its inception identifies the pros and cons of applying universal design. This research hopes to explain the correct position of universal design for architects and policymakers so that there is an increase in the quality realization of accessibility/elements of universal design that is improving. The method used in this study is to examine various sources of journal articles that are relevant to universal design theory. Through a comprehensive literature analysis, the results of this study found that the origin of universal design stemmed from the development of the concept of barriers, which changed the perception of exclusivity to inclusivity. In addition, several benefits of implementing universal design are known in the form of long-term investment, economic value, and support for sustainable design. discrimination, including people with disabilities. In regulations in Indonesia has also regulated if every public building must provide an accesibility factor in its planning. This convenience is in the form of ease in accessing and using all public facilities. A special disabled parking area is one of the requirements in the application of aspects of building convenience. The availability of special parking areas for people with disabilities in public facilities is one of the starting points in identifying how accessible a building is. In this study, we will discuss the analysis of the level of accessibility of the application of special disabled parking areas in modern shopping centers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Modern shopping centers are public facilities that are often accessed by people with various age differences and conditions. Special Region of Yogyakarta also has one of the missions to become an inclusive province. Therefore, this study aims to determine the availability and level of accessibility of standard disabled parking areas in modern shopping centers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The method used is a quantitative method with direct observation through measurements and observations which are then compared with the standard for disabled parking areas according to Indonesian regulations. The results of this study are known that 80% of shopping centers in Yogyakarta have disabled parking areas with a high level of accessibility, namely by implementing 4 elements that comply with standards and the dominant problem that exists for the implementation of disabled parking in Yogyakarta shopping centers is the presence of barriers in front of the parking area so that the parking area cannot be used optimally.

Abstract

The existence of the Village is closely related to the morphology, history, and philosophy of the city of Yogyakarta and is related to the socio-spatial life and its people. Kampung Suronatan experiences intersections of activities that have an impact on the formation of spontaneous spaces along its transitional space. Physical changes in the transitional space and the phenomenon of utilization and territorial claims. This research question refers to how the place process occurs in Kampung Suronatan, as a space with territorial ambivalence. This research was conducted qualitatively, focusing on spatiality and its behavior as a space former. Data were obtained through snapshot observations and short questions which were then analyzed using a behavioral approach. ArcGIS was used to map the location of spontaneous spaces formed in the transitional space. Place process in the transitional space in Suronatan is influenced by spatial tolerance and spatial conceptions influenced by local norms related to spatial territoriality. Place process is defined as a process of spatialization that is spontaneous and temporal. Enriching the theory of place process that has not been linked to territoriality.
