Abstract

The research aimed to find out the support of information communication and technology (ICT) to encourage generation Z (Gen Zers) in their learning style in academic environment as well as a preparation for their competences to enter the workforce. The research applied a qualitative method with literature study style. The studied literature consisted of primary sources such as articles, scientific papers, and the secondary sources, such as books, and some other internet sources. The literatures were comprehended by reading, understanding, analyzing, and synthesizing them to produce new findings in the form of information from various studied sources. Data analysis was done by using content analysis method by selecting, comparing, and combining various information so that the relevant knowledge was found to clarify the learning style needed by generation Z. The results indicate that generation Z learners like to use social media in the learning process and to interact with friends and teachers. In a higher education context, technological tools are utilised for online learning. The combination of digital tools in teaching-learning process and a suitable materials for generation Z learners is also important as it will engage students in the learning process. In entering the future workforce, generation Z learners are equipped with knowledge, skills, and competencies in English to support them in finding jobs locally and regionally.

Abstract

Article clarifies information literacy (IL) implementation that is recognizing information needs, finding information, valuing, selecting information, creating new information and presenting it to get some inputs, applied in Cornel University, Dayton University, North Sumatera University, Duta Wacana University, and Bina Nusantara University. Data were collected by library research. It can be concluded that IL implementation in some mentioned universities have met the IL standards, IL is needed to develop students’ knowledge, skills, and performance, some IL have applied in the formal teaching activity, so that it needs to be researched so that all parties are satisfied and the goal of study can be achieved.

Abstract

Article functioned as a preliminary study for the research on plagiarism happened in student’s thesis S1 in Bina Nusantara University and how to overcome this cases by a prevention procedure approved by the students, lecturers, departments, and other supporting units. The preliminary study was done by library research, finding some plagiarism cases, model, the way to prevent the case, and the sanction and punishment related to plagiarism. Results of this library research used for compiling questionnaire that will be contributed to students, thesis advisors, thesis judges, and the departments to get the real condition of plagiarism practices, prevention actions, and some input to support the next research.

Abstract

Article clarified students’ behaviors in seeking and searching information to support their researches, especially in formulating topics, problems, and goals of researches. Qualitative method was applied to forty three students from the Chinese Departments as respondents. They took Chinese Scientific Writing subject in BINUS University at the odd semester in 2010-2011. The observation of students’ behavior to access information was conducted in one week because it is a preliminary research for the advanced one. Analysis was done by evaluating students’ assignments on their proposals that was submitted at the end of semester, especially on the formulation of researches’ topics, problem formulation, and goals of researches. It is concluded that only twenty students (46.51 %) who are able to compose background of research properly, it means that they are able to express their interest on the researches’ topics, and this abilities have a positive correlation on their ability in formulating researches’ problems and goals.

Abstract

Article clarified the roles of a leaner in motivating students to achieve their final reports, especially in determining their research’s titles. Studi applied library research to find out some theories and concepts related to scientific writing, and data analysis on the research titles determined by the two classes of the  Chinese department who took Chinese Scientific Writing on the past odd semester 2010/2011. Research results indicated that there was a duplication of the research titles and the static choice of titles because the lecturer did not give a clear literature study for the students, such as information retrieval to find previous research having the same topics, as well as  practicing to read scientific publication in the forms of thesis, articles, and research reports. Moreover, there is a lack of reading habit, writing skills, and information retrieval skills that the students had performed.  It can be concluded that  a cooperation between lecturer and students to develop a better learning materials, to improve teaching methods, and interaction between lecturer and students  in Chinese Scientific Writing  subject so that the students are able to determine a proper titles, as an indicator that they have a clear description for their research activities.

Abstract

The goals of the research were to compile a reading material that was able to measure the fifth year primary students’ comprehension to the Betawi folklore which represented Indonesian culture; the value found in the Betawi folklore, and to increase their writing skills based on the vocabulary in context assessment. A library research was applied by selecting the story suitable for primary school students, translating materials, simplifying the reading, and making reading exercise to develop student’s reading comprehension skills. Reading materials and exercises were focused to the fifth year primary students who have been learning English for more than three years. It can be concluded that the interesting reading materials can be compiled from the original Indonesian folklore entitled “The Old Sly Stork” to support students’ achievement in finding the story’s values, and students’ skills in writing based on the reading materials, value, and their daily life experiences.

Abstract

The goal of this research was to know how the folktale Keong Mas was narrated based on Vladimir Propp’s Narratology (1968). Then the evidence in the story was compared to the historical evidence happening during the reign of the two dynasties in the Kediri Kingdom in the eleventh century using the theory of New Historicism. This research used a qualitative method which was based on library research. Furthermore, the research is to know that the work of literature is not always independent. It can be traced through the historical evidence in the folktale which becomes their clues. It is to inform the readers that a work of literature is actually the imitation, that is the reflection of the society.

Abstract

The article presented how to learn an Indonesian folktale entitled Timun Emas which related to the process of the environment. The elements of fiction in this folktale, the setting, was a clue in relating the nature and the human which was part of eco-criticism. This research presented the earth-centered approach to literary studies to see how nature was represented in this folktale, what role of the physical setting played in the plot, the values expressed in this folktale, how metaphor of the land influenced the way human treated it, how the concept of wilderness had changed over time, in what way literacy itself had affected humankind relationship to the natural world. It also analyzed the interconnections between culture and nature, specifically the cultural artifacts oflanguage and literature, understanding the ethical system and use it to reform them. This research used a qualitative method which was based on library research. The theory of Glotfelty then was combined with Anthropocentrism to see the human as the center of the hemisphere and how they determine the ecosystem and the policy related to nature. It is concluded that Timun Mas is able to represent the Indonesian culture, human and nature relationship, as well as culture and nature relationship drawn from the values and belief in the folklore.
