Abstract

Abstract

Cataract is an eye disorder in the form of clouding of the lens. Cataracts can cause blindness. One of the treatments for chest cataracts is eye lens replacement surgery. Some patients are not willing to undergo surgery because of lack of motivation. Family as the closest people have an important role in providing support to patients in undergoing therapy. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between family support and motivation for cataract surgery in cataract clients at Undaan Eye Hospital, Surabaya. This research is a descriptive analytical study with a cross sectional approach . The population of this study was 36 clients. The sample was 36, taken using total sampling technique. The instruments in this study used research results showing that 50% of patients had high family support, 50% of patients had strong motivation to undergo cataract surgery. Correlation analysis using the Spearman rank test (p) obtained a value of P= 0.000 (<0.05), so Ha accepted and Ho rejected, meaning there is a relationship between family support and motivation for cataract surgery. The correlation coefficient value = 0.644, meaning it has a strong level of relationship. Based on the results of the research above, health workers should provide education to families to provide support to patients who will undergo cataract surgery.

This program is implemented in an integrated manner in the form of a Productive Elderly Class at the village hall. This community service has completed the first phase, namely training in creating an integrative garden with vegetable cultivation and raising catfish using used gallon jugs. Results: Participants' knowledge increased, from an average pretest score of 60.25 to 80 in the posttest. During the training, the elderly appeared enthusiastic and their productivity was evident, with the results of their planting media and catfish farming in used gallon jugs.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, including in Kediri District, where the number of cases continues to increase. Limited knowledge among patients, families, and communities regarding TB transmission prevention contributes significantly to ongoing spread. Advances in communication technology—particularly the widespread use of WhatsApp—provide new opportunities for delivering health education in an accessible, efficient, and sustainable manner. This community service program aimed to improve tuberculosis patients’ knowledge about TB transmission prevention through direct counseling and the distribution of educational videos via WhatsApp. The intervention was conducted at Ngasem Public Health Center (Puskesmas Ngasem), involving 30 TB patients as participants. The activity included preparation, face-to-face counseling, distribution of educational videos over five consecutive days, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test questionnaires delivered online. Analysis revealed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge after the intervention, indicated by a p-value of 0.000. These results confirm the effectiveness of WhatsApp as a health education medium capable of reinforcing understanding through repeated exposure to content, clear visual explanations, and ease of access. Furthermore, WhatsApp enables flexible two-way communication between health workers and patients, supporting continuous guidance and clarification. In conclusion, WhatsApp-based video education represents an effective strategy for improving knowledge of TB transmission prevention and holds strong potential for broader and sustained implementation within community health programs.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. Poor family and community knowledge about pulmonary TB has a greater risk of increasing cases of pulmonary TB, while families and communities with good knowledge about pulmonary TB can reduce the incidence of pulmonary TB cases. This study aims to determine the Effect of Health Education Using Brainstorming and Audiovisual Methods on the Knowledge of Families of Tuberculosis Patients. This study is a pre-experimental study with a one-group pre-post-test design. The population is 35 families of tuberculosis patients at the Ngasem Community Health Center, Kediri Regency. The sample size is 35 families of patients selected using a non-probability sampling technique. The research instrument uses a knowledge level questionnaire. Data analysis uses the Wilcoxon test. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test in SPSS, with a significance value of p value = 0.000 <0.05, meaning H1 is accepted, which means there is an Effect of Health Education Using Brainstorming and Audiovisual Methods on the Knowledge of Families of Tuberculosis Patients. Health centers can use Health Education Using Brainstorming and Audiovisual Methods to increase the knowledge of families of tuberculosis patients.
