Abstract

Academics in Indonesia are currently entering an era of rapid-learning change, as experienced by academics worldwide. This change is closely related to information and communication technology, such as the Internet and increasingly digital electronic devices. That digital cycle had had a significant impact on learning and evaluation, which is drastically different from the capabilities of manual systems before the digital era came to serve users in the academic community. However, the ease of technology does bring not only good news but also this digital accompanies problems such as overload, harmful substance, network neglect, and slavery to the device itself. It is hoped that this literature review will empower academics, especially students, to use this technology for their learning goals. This literature review paper investigates the digital learning framework model in a national academic context after the main study series in the previous finding paper on the computerization skills of academics in Indonesia. Therefore, this insight will be useful contribution to Indonesian academic work environment. Keywords: Digital Literacy, Indonesian Academic, Higher Education, Learning Approach

Abstract

This study aimed to seek an in-depth understanding of digital trends among Islamic university students to use their literacy well and balanced on the positive internet. We believe that students' success using the facilities of digital technology is closely related to their proficiency in ICT. In order to understand easily, we chose the research method of research on the data findings that have been published in several journals that we can access with the Google Scholar data search engine published from 2010 to 2021. We involve analytical studies under the phenomenological approach to finding valid and reliable data. In the data review process, for example, we analyze data, evaluate, and critically interpret before drawing conclusions that answer the questions of this study. So one of the findings is that students can access lecture material using digital media skills to understand digital literacy. Their digital literacy is present positively and wisely because they have received training and use digital technology in a balanced way to make digital media an additional source of reference for proper and balanced lecture, game, and entertainment materials. These findings should be helpful in the development of future studies.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the behavior and perceptions of students about Google Effect, Digital Amnesia, and Nomophobia syndromes, among students. For this purpose, a quantitative approach is used through an online survey method using Google Form. The number of samples is 110 out of a total population of 636 students of Library and Information Science of UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. Samples were taken randomly for 5 days. The results are as follows; 84.5 % of students have used smartphones as a reminder, 70.9 % used as their external memory. Meanwhile, 73.6 % feel confused by information overload,78.9 % feel annoyed by hyperlinks, 51 % feel more motivated to answer questions,59 % feel more confident in discussing new things when a smartphone in hand, 78,2 % said that a smartphone can help in understanding the material being taught. In terms of perception, students stated that nomophobia, digital amnesia, and the Google effect are common phenomena in the digital age, 59.1 %, 88.1 %, and 69.1 % respectively. Based on the findings, it is recommended that longitudinal research is needed to examine the long-term effects of this phenomenon to find out whether the high dependence on smart technology will strengthen or weaken the human brain's ability to think and take action independently since it is rarely activated?.

Abstract

The growing usage of digital technologies raised concerns regarding the possible adverse effects of digital amnesia, in which people forget readily available knowledge saved in their gadgets. This study investigated the effects of digital amnesia on memory retention and knowledge construction through experiment studies. The tasks given to the participants required either digital devices or more conventional memory storage and retrieval methods. Memory performance and knowledge construction were assessed through various tests and assessments. The findings indicated that excessive reliance on digital devices for information storage led to digital amnesia. Participants who used digital tools exhibited lower memory retention and shallower information processing compared to those employing traditional memory strategies. The results highlighted the negative implications of digital amnesia for memory retention and knowledge construction. Striking a balance between reliance on digital tools and active engagement in memory processes was crucial. Actively encoding and retrieving information can mitigate risks associated with shallow processing and information overload.
