Abstract

Assistance activities in searching for library sources and target journals are a form of community service activity carried out by the Linguistics Masters Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. The target of this service activity is high school MGMP teachers throughout Blora Regency. The service method is carried out by lectures, simulations, and reviews conducted online through the Zoom platform. The mentoring model is in the form of online guidance, with a mutually agreed schedule. The mentoring process is carried out in a structured and open manner. This process has the benefit of making it easier for teachers to improve review results and provide flexibility in asking questions. The results of this community service can strengthen the motivation of teachers to write articles in nationally accredited journals. Have a library source search strategy that supports article writing. Able to write quality articles in accordance with the chosen scientific journal style.Keywords : Blora, dedication, library resources, mentoring, scientific journals

Abstract

ABSTRAKGuru tingkat dasar dan menengah memiliki tanggung jawab untuk meningkatkan kualitas pribadi terutama dalam penulisan karya ilmiah, karena ini menjadi salah satu komponen dalam penilaian uji kompetensi. Peningkatan kualitas dapat dilakukan dengan mengikuti pelatihan dan mengiriman artikel ke jurnal terakreditasi. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk menambah pengetahuan dalam menulis pembahasan, simpulan dan saran, dan daftar pustaka pada sebuah artikel. Pelatihan ini diselenggarakan dalam beberapa sesi, yaitu:  ceramah, tanya-jawab, diskusi kelas, simulasi penulisan artikel dan pendampingan. Peserta mengikuti kegiatan ini dengan seksama. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan banyaknya peserta yang mengikuti dan pertanyaan terkait dengan materi pelatihan. Sebagian juga mengajukan pertanyaan teknis yang berkaitan dengan artikel yang sudah ditulis atau yang sedang ditulis.       Kata kunci :  peningkatan kualitas, karya ilmiah, artikel, jurnal terakreditasi ABSTRACTTeachers in elementari and high school have responsibilities to improve their individual quality, especially in writing a scientific paper. This skill belongs to one component of competence evaluations. The quality improvement can be done in many ways, such as participating in an up grading training and uploading an article to accredited journals. This up grading training aims to enhance knowledge and skill on writing result and discussion, conclusion and suggestion, and reference in an scientific article. This training was scheduled in several sessions, namely presentation, questioning-aswering, class discussion, simulation of article writing, and supervision. The participants took part in this training intensively. This was indicated by the number of participants and questions related to the material of training. Abstract

People need humor for enjoying entertainment and amusement. Its function is getting wider not only to make people laugh but also to make social activity. This aricle aims to figure out kinds of speech act people generally used to show their intention in humor.  The data were collected from Reader’s Digest magazine using no-participatory. The data are utterances that become the punch line of humor as units to analyze. The result shows that there are two speech acts of humor texts, that is, representative and commissive.  They are uttered in form of indirect speech in which the function and the mood of utterances are not in line. The punch lines of humor are triggered by some topics, namely the characters or bad traits of someone, marriage issues which cover the anxiety of getting old,  passing by the time of living together as husband and wife, job and position at workplace, public services which include mistake, satisfaction, dissatisfaction, and complaint people met when having the service in public places, and other problems related to various aspects of life.Keywords: humor text, indirect speech, representative, commissive, puch lines of humor

Abstract

This thesis deals with how readers understand the sequences of event and time displacement in the literary works especially short story. Temporal deixis, as one of deixis types, have an important role along with tense to help readers understand the story. This thesis identifies the sequences of event, describes time displacement and sequence event in short story by using temporal deixis and tense, and explains the use of temporal deixis in short stories. The result shows that four selected short stories contain temporal deixis and change of tense. In conclusion, the four selected short stories contain temporal deixis and change of tense to signify time displacement from present to past and vice versa.Keywords: temporal deixis; time displacement; sequences of event; tense; short story

Abstract

This article tells about the structure of greeting discourse, how people think about it and its function in social interaction.One of language functions is to tighten solidarity among members of a community. This can be done by using some expressions that show a positive intention of speaker to hearer. Saying congratulation to someone who has this special moment, such as birthday celebration, is one way to realize this function. When doing so, s/he is not only expressing her/his true feeling. Behind it, that expression represents diverse perception and value owned by people who produce and inteprete them. The data were collected form the conversationcontained in WA mobile application. They are taken from two groups, namely Semarak Juring and Dosen dan Tendik. The method of non-participatory participation was used and was followed by note taking technique. The result shows that the different representation of birthday greeting indicates various social relation between addresseer and addressee. This representation also marks differentfunctions of birthday greetings Keywords: form,function, social function, sympathy and respect                .

Abstract

This study aims to analyse how Palestinian-Israeli conflicts are reported by two different news media, in this case Fox News (American) and Detik.Com (Indonesian). The data in this study were words and sentences which represent how Palestinian-Israeli conflict is reported by the two media. The data were taken from 4 news articles of Fox News and Detik.com which were reported from May 15 to May 31, 2021. The data were collected by using participant non-observation method with note-taking techniques. Then, the data were analyzed based on Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) theory proposed by Fairclough (1995). The results of the research indicate that there are differences in the representation of Palestinian and Israeli conflicts in the two media. In Fox News articles, Palestine, especially Hamas, is represented as a terrorist and there is an element of the American government's alignment with Israel. Meanwhile, in Detik.com articles, Israel is represented as the perpetrator of the attack while Palestine is represented as the victim.

Abstract

Deixis is one of topics in Pragmatics that always be studied by researchers on their own reason. This research is a study of person deixis as address system within novel entitled Their Eyes Were Watching God from Zora Neale Hurston and story book Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah as the source of data in this study, which the author of each book is Black people. The purpose of analyzing, the writer would like to analyze the system address system in both sources and look for the address system from the sources. The data were collected by library research method. The collected data were identified, categorized, and analyzed. The writer analyzed the data by using Levinson’s theory as method of analyzing the source data. The finding of the research is from two literary works the type that appears frequently is first-person deixis such as I, Ah, Ah’m from Their Eyes Were Watching God and I from Friday Black. The person deixis as address system that use in term of formal and informal dialogue. The last is the factors that affected the address system in both literary works.Keywords: deixis; address system; black cultural background.

Abstract

This research paper discusses cultural, social, personality, behavioral system and cybernetics relationship in Christina Koning’s Just Like A Young Girl Should. The focus of this research covers the analysis of cultural system encompassing constitution symbol, cognition symbol, evaluation symbol, and expression symbol, social system covering status and role of people in society, personality system including race identity, id, ego, and super ego, behavioral system referring to tendency of society behaviors, and cybernetics relationship reflected in the short story. The comprehensive approach used in this research is eclectic approach by combining more than one research approach to analyze the related phenomena in the short story which is endorsed with Talcott Parsons’s Action Theory. The result of this research indicates that cultural, social, personality, behavioral system, and cybernetics relationship are reflected in teenagers’ life of the main characters in the short story, Kitty and Alain.
