Abstract

This study aimed to reveal science process skills profile of pre-service elementary school teacher in one of private universities in Jakarta students. The research method was descriptive. Research population was all students of pre-service elementary school teachers The sample was 5th semester students of year 2016/2017 as many as 316 students selected by Purposive Sampling technique. The research instruments were science skill test and science process skill observation sheet. Data analysis using descriptive statistics that included percentages, minimum values, maximum values, averages and standard deviations. The result showed that the proficiency of science skill process of pre-service elementary school teacher was still low with the average score of 46,46, the highest indicator was the ability to use the tools and the material and the lowest indicator was the ability to communicate

Abstract

Permasalahan tentang sampah merupakan permasalahan yang banyak dihadapi oleh masyarakat. Hal ini juga yang dirasakan oleh RT 01 dan RT 02 Kelurahan Klapanunggal Kecamatan Klapanunggal. Beberapa masalah yang dihadapi oleh mitra adalah masalah pengangkutan sampah yang hanya dilakukan seminggu sekali dan menyebabkan tempat sampah menggunung yang berdampak pada kesehatan dan bau tidak sedap. Selain itu, 70% ibu rumah tangga pada daerah mitra tidak bekerja. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan menawarkan pelatihan yang komprehensif dimulai dari pelatihan pengelolaan sampah organik dengan pembuatan kompos takakura, serta pelatihan pengelolaan sampah anorganik dengan membuat kerajinan rumah tangga. Ada empat hal yang diperoleh oleh peserta setelah diadakannya pelatihan ini yaitu a) Knowledge (Pengetahuan), setelah pelatihan terlihat 100% peserta merasa senang dan mendapat banyak pengetahuan dari kegiatan pelatihan pengelolaan sampah, b) Skill (Kemampuan), berdasarkan observasi 85% peserta terlihat telah memiliki keterampilan untuk mengelola sampah organik menjadi pupuk takakura), c) Attitude (Perilaku), dari kegiatan pelatihan terbentuk sikap cinta lingkungan dari peserta, d) Product (Produk), peserta mampu mengelola sampah rumah tangganya sendiri, dan menjadikannya sebuah produk, seperti pupuk takakura. Kendala yang dihadapi berupa keterbatasan waktu dan alat bantu yang digunakan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of hands-on science teaching methods in a fourth-grade classroom. Focusing on the concept of energy, the study utilizes observation and interviews as primary research instruments to gather data on students' learning experiences and outcomes. The research method involves qualitative analysis, specifically examining how practical experiments and group discussions contribute to students’ understanding of scientific concepts. Findings indicate that hands-on learning and group-based activities significantly enhance students’ engagement and comprehension of complex ideas by allowing them to witness real-life applications of theoretical knowledge. Challenges, such as varying student learning capabilities, occasionally limit the effectiveness of this method. To address these issues, the teacher adapts the instruction by providing additional support to students with difficulties and reviewing concepts as necessary. Overall, the study suggests that hands-on, project-based learning fosters a deeper understanding of science, while adaptive teaching strategies are crucial to meeting diverse learning needs.
