Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT Due to limited time in the language classroom, teachers cannot set a huge number of goals for their students in teaching-learning process. The 4/3/2 activity, which is becoming increasingly popular among ESL teachers, is the focus of this research. The corrective feedback strategy is offered in this study as a way to improve the 4/3/2 activity. There were four participants in the study, all of whom were English Language Training for Officials (ELTO) spell-out students from Southeast Asian countries. They underwent a short course at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. The findings suggest that fluency development is best served by 4/3/2 activity. Especially, respondents' fluency in both activities improved as a result of the time constraints. Surprisingly , there is not enough evidence to support the claim that both activities are more valuable in terms of accuracy's improvement. Despite the fact that corrective feedback has been incorporated into the activity, the results show no significant change. While adjusting the 4/3/2 activity can help, it does not take the place of adjusting the activity's priority. Correct feedback does not interfere with fluency improvement, hence this claim is disproved.

Abstract

This qualitative study aimed to investigate how the academic community at a university in Aceh, Indonesia, views the handling of cases of sexual violence on campus. After conducting preliminary research, this research was continued by conducting in-depth interviews with nine students, three lecturers, and two university leaders. Through thematic analysis, this study found that although students are at high risk of becoming victims, some students still deny the potential for sexual violence on campus because of the lack of critical consciousness and the absence of standard rules from the university regarding sexual violence. On another side, the researchers found the emergence of resistance among female students against the sexual violence issue, even though it did not base on critical awareness and collective organization. The implication of this research is the potential for dealing with cases of sexual violence by utilizing the seeds of resistance that arise among students. Future research should explore how the academic community in higher education builds critical awareness in a collaborative and participatory way to deal with the issue of sexual violence.

Abstract

The global movement towards inclusive education has gained momentum in recent years, aiming to provide equitable education for all students, regardless of their abilities. Indonesia, in response to this transformative movement, has ratified an inclusive education policy, aiming to provide educational opportunities to students with disabilities within regular classroom settings. However, translating policy into practice poses significant challenges, with deeply entrenched medical model perspectives influencing public perceptions of individuals with disabilities. This article delves into the necessity of fostering a comprehensive understanding of and valuing diversity to support the establishment of an inclusive school environment in Indonesia. It explores the essential shift from the medical to the social model in understanding students with disabilities and highlights the significant role of beliefs and attitudes in shaping the implementation of inclusive education. Furthermore, it examines the alignment of Islamic values, particularly the "Fikih Difabel", with the principles of inclusive education. The article emphasizes the pivotal role of creating an inclusive culture within schools, guided by the Index for Inclusion, to develop sustainable inclusive practices. Strategies to overcome challenges in promoting acceptance and inclusivity among stakeholders, including educators, parents, and students, are proposed, such as education and awareness, engaging religious scholars, collaboration and partnership, cultivating an inclusive school culture, parent and community involvement, monitoring and evaluation, and advocacy for policy reform.By aligning inclusive education principles with Islamic values, specifically through the "Fikih Difabel," Muhammadiyah can lead by example in fostering inclusive school environments within its institutions. These efforts can positively impact the lives of students with disabilities and promote a sense of unity and empathy among all students, contributing to a truly inclusive society in Indonesia.
