Data collection is in the form of words and the data analysis is done by interpreting the data based on Elaine Showalter’s Gynocriticism which concerns with women as writer as well as the producer of literary texts. Gynocriticism mostly deals with four models; they are women’s writing and women’s body, women’s writing and women’s language, women’s writing and women’s psyche, and women’s writing and women’s culture. The results show Masyari reveals many problems attached to Madurese women through women’s body, language, psyche and culture. Madurese early arranged marriage and myths has placed Madurese women in oppressive and unfortunate conditions due to the binding culture that has dominated women. It explores cultural representation, reader response variability, and the influence of cultural background. The research collects interview data, analyzes responses, provides cultural insights, and suggests future research to explore evolving perceptions in literature. This qualitative study analyzed readers’ responses to Muna Masyari’s short stories through interviews and observations, focusing on English Literature students from Trunojoyo University. Data analysis included reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Limitations included a small sample size and limited diversity. Future research suggests broader participant diversity, mixed methods, and a diachronic approach to evolving perceptions. The study found that Madurese readers connected deeply with cultural rituals in Muna Masyari’s stories, while non-Madurese readers needed additional context. Responses varied by cultural background, showing pride from locals and fresh perspectives from outsiders. Both groups acknowledged the decline in traditional practices, reflecting changing societal values and the evolving nature of cultural heritage. Abstract

This research aims to analyze the representation of Madurese culture and local wisdom in short films published on YouTube, as well as to identify their impact on viewers, especially the younger generation. The data sources for this study are short films uploaded by the Mata Pena YouTube channel, which has the largest number of followers compared to other YouTube channels that also feature Madurese short films. The Mata Pena YouTube channel has received significant positive recognition from various online media for being perceived as having educational value and good moral messages for its audience. The method used in this research is video content analysis with a qualitative research approach. This study employs Stuart Hall's Cultural Studies theory, which provides a relevant conceptual framework for understanding cultural representation in media. The results clearly indicate that short films focusing on Madurese culture successfully reveal the deep social values and traditions within that community. Through films such as Tata Krama, Loppah Ka Guruh, and Mat Tinggal Abiniah, viewers are invited to understand that the Madurese people highly value politeness, mutual assistance, and respect for teachers. Additionally, the results of the questionnaire show that watching short films about Madurese culture can change the perceptions of the younger generation, reduce negative stigma, and enhance appreciation for the values of politeness.

Abstract

This article explores the multifaceted concept of home as presented by Upstone in The Spatial Politics in the Postcolonial Novel, emphasizing its role as both a physical space and a metaphor for colonialism. Upstone posits that the home operates as an autonomous entity, possessing its own systems of authority and power similar to those found in nations and cities. Within this framework, the article examines the hierarchical relationships that exist in domestic settings, particularly between masters and servants, and between men and women. In Qaisra Shahraz's novel Perempuan Suci, these power dynamics are vividly illustrated, revealing a clear disparity between male and female characters. Men hold dominant positions in the household, while women, including daughters, are subordinated and often subject to oppression. The portrayal of these inequalities highlights the pervasive nature of patriarchal structures and gender politics within the home. Additionally, the article discusses how the relationship between masters and servants further exemplifies the oppressive dynamics at play, leading to practices that can result in violence. Ultimately, the analysis asserts that, despite being removed from external political influences, the home embodies its own complex political landscape, characterized by power relations that echo broader colonial discourses. This study underscores the significance of examining domestic spaces to fully understand the interplay of power, oppression, and gender in postcolonial contexts.
