Abstract

The slow growth of the Java barb (Puntius javanicus Bleeker, 1855) fingerlings is due to the feeding of plant-based protein which is usually lack of lysine.  The lack of it, can hinder the feed efficiency and growth. The best way to solve the problem is by adding lysine in the diet. The objectives of the study were to determine optimal needs of lysine to increase feed efficiency, growth, and nutrient contents of Java barb.  The fish samples were fingerlings of Java barb which weighed from 3.26 to 3.78 g-1 fish. The feed comprised 30% isoprotein and 262 Kcal isoenergy supplemented with lysine amino acid.  The dosages of the lysine in the diet were 1.25% (A1), 1.5% (A2), 1.75% (A3), 2.0% (A4), 2.25% (A5), and 2.5% (A6) of dried diets. The parameters observed were relative growth rate (RGR), apparent digestibility coefficients of protein (ADCp), efficiency of feed usage (EFU), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein efficiency ratio (PER), survival rate (SR), hepatosomalic index (HSI), viscerosomatic index (VSI) and nutrient contents of Java barb. The results of the study disclosed that the enrichment of lysine into the diet increased the feed utilization, the growth and the nutrient contents of Java barb.  The needs of lysine for Java Barb (Puntius javanicus) fingerlings to optimize feed efficiency, growth, and nutrition contents ranged from 1.58% to-1.70% dried diet (5.3 to 5.6 % of protein diet).

The problem with Asian redtail catfish fish farming is the slow growth rate, presumably because Asian redtail catfish are less able to utilize feed efficiently. One solution to overcome this problem is by supplementing Saccharomyces cerevisiae in commercially feed. This study was conducted to examine the effect of supplementation of S. cerevisiae in commercially feed on the efficiency of feed utilization on growth performance and survival of Asian redtail catfish (H. nemurus) fingerlings. Asian redtail catfish  fingerlings used had an average weight of 1.76±0.03g/fish. This study used an experimental method with analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications. Fish were fed with four dosages of supplementation with S. cerevisiae on feed, at 0 g/kg feed (A); 2.5 g/kg feed (B); 5g /kg feed (C); and 7.5g /kg feed (D). The results showed that S. cerevisiae supplementation in commercially feed had a significant effects (P<0.05) on protein digestibility (ADCp), feed utilization efficiency (EPP), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein efficiency ratio (PER) and relative growth rate (RGR), but had no significant effects (P>0.05) on the level of total feed consumption (TKP) and survival of Asian redtail catfish fingerlings. Treatment B (S. cerevisiae 2.5g/kg feed) was the best dosage which gave the highest value for ADCp (75.35%), EPP (76.24%), FCR (1.34), PER (3.85 ) and RGR (3.79%/day).The conclusion of this study showed that supplementation of S. cerevisiae in commercial feed had a significant effect on several biological parameters of baung fish, with B treatment as the best treatment model. Keywords : Saccharomyces cerevisiae, digestibility, feed, growth

Abstract

Beong are one of endogenous fish in Indonesia and still rely on catches from nature. The level of growth and survival rate in culture of beong is still low, so it is necessary to do cultivation efforts for conservation of beong, so that the beong can be cultivated intensively. One effort that can be do is biological manipulation in the form of stocking density. This study aims to determine the effect of shocking density on growth and survival rate and find out the best amount too. The study was conducted in April-May 2018 at UPT BBI Sawangan, Magelang, Central Java. The method used in this study was experiment method and Completely Randomized Design (CRD) for 4 treatments, 3 replicates with stocking dencities of A (10 fish/m2), B (30 fish/m2), C (50 fish/m2)and D (70 fish/m2). The results showed that different stocking densities gave a significant effect (Sig.> 0.05) on TKP, FCR, SGR and SR. This is allegedly due to feed competition, space competition and cannibalism in Beong fish. Treatment B gave the best results at TKP, FCR, SGR and SR with a value of 1.36 ± 0.01 gr / individual, 1.15 ± 0.11, 4.58 ± 0.22% / day and 83.33 ± 3,34%.
