Abstract

AbstractLiterature in Toraja, especially oral literature, is important as the identity and the way of life of the community. As one form of cultural products, the philosophy of Tallu Lolona and Hymns of Passomba Tedong is supposed to be kept and constructed due to the Torajan youth generation does not know and understand yet the philosophy of Tallu Lolona in the local wisdom of Toraja. Their comprehension regarding the hymn of Passomba Tedong is merely to witness his ritual without a clear understanding of the hymns spoken in the procedure. Moreover, the number of Tomassomba Tedong (a speaker of Massomba Tedong hymns) in Toraja is only a few years old. The purpose of this research is to describe the philosophy of Tallu Lolona in the hymn of Passomba Tedong, Toraja. The research uses qualitative methods in collecting data. Researchers use instruments, namely: In-depth interviews with linguists and Toraja culture, Tomassomba (the hymn speaker of the Passomba Tedong). The participation observation is equipped by a filed note (observation guide), and a recording tool to document the results of interviews, pictures (photos) with the camera and video capture of the hymn procession of Passomba Tedong. This research was conducted in Toraja. The data analysis technique used the cyclical pattern. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jenis filosofi Tallu Lolona dalam himne Passomba Tedong Toraja. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data  menggunakan instrumen penelitian, yakni wawancara mendalam (in-depth interview) dengan ahli bahasa dan budaya Toraja, tomassomba (penutur himne Passomba Tedong). Observasi partisipasi (participant observation) dilengkapi dengan filed note (pedoman observasi), dan alat perekam untuk mendokumentasikan hasil wawancara, gambar (foto) dengan kamera dan pengambilan video prosesi himne Passomba Tedong. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitan ini adalah pola siklus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis filosofi Tallu Lolona dalam himne Passomba Tedong Toraja, yakni (1) filosofi lolo patuoan yang direpresentasikan dalam bentuk ungkapan syukur dan terima kasih kepada Tuhan akan keberadaan ternak kerbau sebagai kurban dalam ritual massomba tedong, (2) filosofi lolo tananan yang dinyatakan dalam bentuk ungkapan syukur dan terima kasih kepada Tuhan akan melimpahnya hasil panen berupa padi sebagai bahan pemenuhan kebutuhan pokok manusia, dan digunakan untuk prosesi adat lainnya di Toraja, dan (3) filosofi lolo tau yang direpresentasikan dalam bentuk ungkapan syukur dan terima kasih kepada Tuhan akan kehadiran anak dalam keluarga, keberadaan seluruh rumpun keluarga yang berkumpul dalam ritual tersebut, dan anugerah kesehatan sehingga mereka dimampukan untuk berkarya bagi keluarga mereka.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of using social media on students' speaking skills at Universitas Kristen Indonesia Toraja. This research use qualitative method. The purposive sampling use to obtain data from 7th semester students of English education. Data collected by interview and observation. The result of this research is Instagram social media has an effect on speaking fluency, vocabulary improvement, grammar and pronunciation. The impact fell by students experienced a significant increase in fluency, pronunciation and understanding of informal language use. The use of Instagram social media can personalize students' experience to practice speaking and listening skills and even motivate and increase self-confidence. Social media can provide a positive experience for students by offering engaging, interactive, and supportive content for English language learning, so it is worth considering using social media in education.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to elaborate how the implementation of the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in the curriculum of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Kristen Indonesia Toraja. The researchers applied qualitative methods with a case study design. The subjects of this study were five representative lecturers from the Research Group of the English Education Study Program, they were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data collection in this study used observation and interview. The data analysis techniques used were transcription and coding to analyze observational data, while interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results of this study confirm that the implementation of the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in the curriculum of the English Language Education Study Program UKI Toraja Indonesia is as follows: 1) The PEO preparation process not only reflects a commitment to the quality of education, but also maintains the relevance of the study program to the needs of industry and society in general, 2) PLO is described in detail and hierarchically, covering various aspects of skills and knowledge relevant to the study of English Language Education, as well as accommodating the specific needs of the intended field of study, 3) Curriculum formulation applies the principles and practices such as details on each course and learning activities, active learning approach, use of technology, integration of formative assessment, orientation to Outcome-Based Education (OBE), curriculum structure oriented to competency development, and the application of real-world relevant content. 4) The evaluation system implemented not only aims to assess student achievement, but also to ensure that their curriculum is relevant, effective, and prepares graduates to succeed in their careers and make a positive contribution to the development of society.
