Abstract

The vaccination policy is a government effort to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the narrative, participation, and level of social trust in the vaccination policy in online social networks. Online social networks such as Twitter are the dominant media used during the pandemic period. As for the use of the Nvivo 12 Plus analysis software, the method was chosen to maximize the results of data coding from Twitter data sources. This study indicates that low social trust can hinder vaccination policies in Indonesia. This situation also affects the community's collective interest and cooperative attitude to support the government's efforts to reduce the number of cases of COVID-19 infection.

Abstract

Abstract

This phenomenological study investigates the academic commitment of Muslim Filipino students attending Pondok Pesantren in Indonesia within the framework of transnational Islamic education. The research is grounded in Kobasa’s Academic Hardiness Theory and aims to understand how these students sustain long-term engagement in Islamic studies despite facing linguistic, cultural, and educational challenges. Using Colaizzi’s seven-step phenomenological analysis, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving seven purposively selected participants. The findings reveal that academic commitment is nurtured through an interplay of personal, spiritual, and institutional factors. Structured daily routines, internalized religious motivation, and spiritual disciplines such as tahajjud, fasting, and Qur’an memorization serve as strong intrinsic drivers. At the same time, institutional vision, regulatory systems, peer collaboration, and family encouragement create a supportive ecosystem that reinforces persistence and resilience. Academic commitment among these students thus emerges not merely as persistence in study but as a spiritual journey integrating faith, self-discipline, and communal service. The study contributes to the growing discourse on Islamic educational resilience by demonstrating how faith-based pedagogy and pesantren culture cultivate enduring academic motivation across cultural boundaries. The implications emphasize the need for transnational Islamic education institutions to integrate contextualized, spiritually anchored learning frameworks that strengthen students’ moral identity, academic perseverance, and adaptive competence in multicultural environments.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic  not only causes health problems but also affects the level of social trust. Low social trust occurs in the public sphere and transforms in the digital space. This situation was then deemed necessary to rebuild social capital. This study aims to prove that there are still opportunities in times of crisis  where social capital can be re-formed, depending  on how social networks initiate voluntary activism on social media. This study used a quantitative approach. Data were collected from Twitter using Ncapture.  The data including information on COVID-19 cases were later analysed using the Nvivo 12 Plus software.  This study found that there is a possibility and opportunity  that  low social trust caused by  the COVID-19 pandemic can still be restored in times of crisis, at least by utilizing social media as a social networking center. Social networks on Twitter slowly shape cooperative behavior and social trust, and influence collectivities in rebuilding social capital.
