Abstract

The low use of MKJP contraceptives is caused by the wrong beliefs of some people regarding birth control, the lack of public awareness about the benefits of birth control and participants ignorance about the advantages of long-term contraceptive methods. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors causing the low use of MKJP. This literature review analysed 12 articles (2020–2025) from PubMed and Google Scholar to identify factors contributing to low MKJP utilization. The findings indicate that parity, knowledge, education, healthcare provider support, and spousal support influence MKJP use, with knowledge and partner support being the most significant factors. In conclusion, both individual and social factors affect MKJP utilization, highlighting the need for improved education and greater partner involvement in contraceptive decision-making in order to increase the use of MKJP.

Abstract

Depression in the elderly is a mental health problem that may reduce quality of life, worsen physical condition, and increase dependency. The main problem is the high risk of depression in the elderly due to lack of family support and low levels of independence. Limited studies have simultaneously examined family support and independence level associated with depression among institutionalized elderly in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between family support and level of independence with depression level among elderly people at the Pucang Gading Elderly Social Service Home, Semarang. This study used a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 49 elderly respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a family support questionnaire, an independence assessment instrument, and a geriatric depression questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Spearman rank test with a significance level of 0.05. There was a significant relationship between family support and depression level (p= 0.041; rho= 0,293) and between level of independence and depression level (p=0.047; rho= 0,285). Elderly people with low family support and low independence tend to have higher levels of depression. The results of this study are expected to form the basis for efforts to increase psychosocial support and independence for the elderly in order to reduce levels of depression.

Abstract

Abstract The smoking habit of family members, especially fathers, can have a negative impact on the health of pregnant women and children, both directly and through exposure to secondhand smoke. This exposure risks causing fetal growth disorders, low birth weight, and respiratory infections in toddlers. This community service activity aims to increase fathers' knowledge about the dangers of smoking through health counseling. The method used was interactive lecture with leaflet media and suction bottle props. The targets of the activity were 25 fathers in RW 6 Sembungharjo Village, Semarang City. The evaluation results showed an increase in respondents' knowledge, from 72% with good knowledge before the intervention to 88% after the intervention. This health education is effective as a promotive and preventive measure to reduce the risk of exposure to cigarette smoke in the family environment, thus creating a healthier household for mothers and children.
