Abstract

Steel is the material most widely used in the industry. To avoid wear and tear on steel, it is necessary to do heat treatment to improve the mechanical properties of the steel according to its application in the field. The increase in hardenability in metals can be determined by doing a hardenability test, namely the Jominy test method. The Jominy test is a method to determine the hardness value of metal using ASTM standards. This research was conducted with varying the distance of the nozzle of the sprayer to the lower end of the specimen, namely 10 mm, 12.5 mm, and 14 mm with a long spraying time of 15 minutes. The heat treatment process at temperature of 780oC and 90 minutes holding time. The averagehardness value of specimen number one (10 mm spraying distance) is 45.43 kgf, specimen number two (12.5 mm spraying distance) is 45.68 kgf, and specimen number three (14 mm spraying distance) is 44.31 kgf. The highest hardness value was specimen number two, there was an increase of 1.87 kgf (4.02%), according to ASTM standards where the spraying distance was 12.5 mm.Keywords: Steel, spraying distance, Jominy test.

Abstract

Karakteristik aliran dan perpindahan panas fluida terhadap silinder sirkular dengan pola tertentu sering digunakan dalam berbagai cabang teknologi moderen saat ini. Aplikasi praktisnya banyak digunakan pada dunia industri seperti menentukan desain susunan pipa pada sistem alat penukar panas. Besarnya nilai perindahan panas saat aliran fluida melintasi silinder sirkular yang ditunjukkan dengan parameter Nusselt number, baik itu Nusselt number lokal (NuФ) maupun Nusselt number rata-rata. Perpindahan panas konveksi paksa pada silinder sirkular tipe staggered menggunakan 3 variasi bilangan Reynolds  (ReD) yaitu 80; 200; 5000 sedangkan transverse pitch 1.5D; 2D. Temperatur inlet fluida masuk shell 350 K dan temperatur tube 300 K, dimodelkan dengan Gambit 2.4.6 dan disimulasikan menggunakan Fluent 6.3.26 dengan model turbulen k-w SST 2D steady-Flow untuk memperoleh data yang berhubungan dengan profile kecepatan dan distribusi temperatur. Dari hasil simulasi ini didapatkan visualisasi kontur kecepatan, temperatur dan distribusi Nusselt number. Terjadi peningkatan perpindahan panas dengan menurunnya tranverse picth (ST). Pada ReD 200, terjadi penurunan nilai Nusselt number rata-rata di row ketiga dan keempat sedangkan pada ReD 5000 nilai Nusselt number rata-rata pada row kedua, ketiga dan keempat terus mengalami peningkatan.

Abstract

Kemampukerasan adalah kemampuan suatu material untuk dapat dikeraskan sampai kedalaman tertentu dengan cara perlakuan panas dengan properti mekanik, hingga terbentuk martensit pada proses pendinginan untuk mencapai kekerasan tertentu. Salah satu metode pengujian hardenability yaitu jominy test (Van Vlack, 1991). Uji jominy merupakan sebuah metode untuk mengetahui kemampuan pengerasan logam (baja). Pengujian jominy tes dilakukan berdasarkan standard ASTM A255. Pengujian dilakukan mengunakan baja ST 42 dengan panjang 100 mm dan diameter 25.4 mm dengan spesimen uji sebanyak 3 buah. Hasil pengujian spesimen 1 dengan holding time 30 menit menghasilkan nilai kemampukerasan 43,7 HRB, untuk spesimen 2 dengan Holding Time 60 menit menghasilkan nilai kemampukerasan 43,7 HRB, sedangkan pada spesimen 3 dengan holding Time 90 menit menghasilkan nilai kemampukerasan 47 HRB. Semakin lama dilakukan holding Time pada spesimen maka nilai kekerasan yang dihasilkan akan lebih tinggi.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini merupakan pengenalan dan pelatihan software AUTOCAD bagi siswa-siswi SMK Negeri 2 Ketapang. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan oleh Prodi Perawatan dan Perbaikan Mesin Jurusan Teknik Mesin Politeknik Negeri Ketapang yang bertujuan untuk mengenalkan dan melatihkan cara penggunaan software AUTOCAD. Kegiatan ini dilakukan selama empat minggu pada bulan Oktober 2019. Kegiatan ini dilakukan melalui dua metode, yaitu, pelatihan dengan instruktur melalui tatap muka dan praktik kerja secara langsung menggunakan komputer yang telah disediakan. AUTOCAD merupakan perangkat lunak yang digunakan untuk mendesain gambar teknik, khususnya menggambar desain mesin, produk otomotif, arsitektur, peta geografis maupun konstruksi yang dioperasikan melalui perangkat komputer. Software AUTOCAD dapat membantu siswa-siswi dalam matapelajaran gambar teknik, dimana menggambar teknik sebagai salah satu kompetensi yang harus dimiliki siswa jurusan teknik pemesinan di SMK Negeri 2 Ketapang.

Abstract

The need for low carbon steel plate sheets with relatively thin thickness measurements in Indonesia is currently quite high, especially in supporting the automotive industry, the electronics industry, the food industry, beverages, and household appliances. To fulfill this, raw materials for low carbon steel plate sheets that have high formability and are not easily cracked in critical areas of the desired model are required. For this reason, research on the effect of temperature variations in heat treatment on hardness, microstructure and spring back of V-bending results on steel plates with a plate thickness of 0.8 mm. The research method used was a laboratory experimental method. The heat treatment is carried out with temperature variations of 710, 820 and 9300C with a holding time of 60 minutes. Tests carried out on specimens are hardness testing, microstructure testing, and spring back V-bending results on steel plates. The results of this study indicate a decrease in the spring back angle where the smallest spring back angle in the bending process is on the 9300C plate which is 1,040. The value of the hardness results from V-bending has increased significantly. The increase in the value of hardness because the plate has an atom shift or dislocation by shear stress (slip) due to plastic deformation on the plate. The highest hardness value is on the 7100C plate which is 154.67 HV or has an increase of 14,291% of the pre-bending plate. The lowest hardness value is on the 9300C plate which is 125.33 HV, its hardness increases 4.4% against the pre-bending plate. Heat treatment also causes changes in the microstructure of the plates from the process of regulation and reshaping of crystals to the growth of new grains which have implications for changes in mechanical properties and formability of the workpiece.

Abstract

Hardenability is the ability of a material to be hardened to a certain depth by means of heat treatment to form martensite in the cooling process to achieve a certain hardness. One of the hardenability testing methods is the Jominy Test. The specimen is heated at the specified temperature, then cooled by spraying water at one end. After testing with the Jominy test apparatus, its hardness was measured using the hardness test equipment.The testing of Jominy is based on ASTM standard A255. Testing using specimens with a length of 100 mm, diameter 25.4 mm as much as 9 pieces. Hardness is measured by the Rockwell Hardness Test method. The test result on specimen 1 with a final temperature of 700 °c resulted in an average hardness value of 45.51 HRB, on specimen 9 with a final temperature of 1100 °c amounting to 47.32 HRB.

Abstract

Strength, toughness, machinability and damping capacity are properties of compacted graphite iron that distinguish the properties between flake graphite cast iron and spheroidal cast iron. The formation of compacted graphite can be set to achieve the required specification. The formation of compacted graphite is started from spheroidal to compacted cast iron. The residual magnesium after magnesium treatment and the solidification rate have a significant role in the formation of compacted graphite. The high content of residual magnesium can obstruct the graphite plane to grow during the transformation from spheroidal to compacted shape. In addition, the cooling rate of the casting can be controlled by varying the casting thickness. The compacted graphite in the cast iron are characterized according to shape, size and distribution. The optimum compacted graphite in the cast iron that can be produced has 30 mm of casting thickness with 0.017 % of residual magnesium.

Abstract

The characteristic of fluid-flow and heat-transfer on a circular cylinder with particular pattern is frequently used in various branches of modern technology today. The amount of heat transfer when fluid cureent passes through circular cylinder is expressed by Nusselt number parameter, eiter local Nusselt number (NuФ) or average Nusselt-number. Forced convection heat transfer on the circular cylinder with a staggered-type of using Reynolds-number (ReD) varied as the-value of 80, 200, 5000 while the tranverse-pitch (2D, 2D). The fluid inlet temperature entering shell is 350oK and the tube temperature is 300oK, which is modeled whith-Gambit 2.4.6 and simulated using Fluent-6.3.26 whith turbulent model k-w SST 2D steady-flow to obtain data related to the velocity profile and temperature distribution. From the simulation results obtained visualization contour of velocity, temperature and Nusselt number distribution. The smallest Nusselt value is at ReD 80 then ReD 200 and the highest is at ReD 5000.

Abstract

The natural drying proses that is required to dry pellet fish have some shortages, such as : a long time and need some time reversal process. Because of this dryer is designed using artificial heating system with forced convection. Dryers is designed for the capacity of 2 kg per hour. It has components : dryer room, plats, space heating, hot conduit, a chanel for the fan and the evaporation air stream through all the components. LPG is used as fuel and heating burner is completed with an on off system controler. To dry 2 kg of fish pellet with 30% to 15% water content required 5 pieces of plats 30 cm x 30 cm dry air flowrate 17 m3/menit. After drying, the water can be evaporated from pellet was 0,3 kg. In one-time process dryer can produce 1,7 kg pellet. From the test conducted, the time required to dry 2 kg of fish pellet only takes 32 minutes. With room temperature is set 60-80 oC.

Abstract

Local farmers in Sungai Awan Kanan Village are one of the supporting sources of food for consumers around Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan. With traditional skills they are able to produce agricultural products that can compete with modern agriculture. They always produce fresh vegetables every day for family and community needs. Behind it all, there are several weaknesses that they currently feel, including; cheap prices at the collector level (prices become a game for certain parties), fresh vegetables cannot last long due to limited supporting facilities. Meanwhile, on the other hand, there are opportunities that actually open the chain of their problems, such as; the emergence of supermarkets and modern markets that require supplies. The aim of implementing this community service is to encourage the strength of local communities in developing agricultural products, especially vegetables, through packaging methods. The community is facilitated by providing modern packaging for the agricultural products they get. With this community service program in the form of training regarding the development of agricultural products through packaging, it is hoped that it can increase public knowledge about how to increase income through packaging methods applied to agricultural products. After the training, almost all training participants realized that the packaging methods applied to agricultural products could have a good effect on the sales of their agricultural products.
