Abstract

Introduction: Improving the quality of health services requires collaborative work skills in managing health problems from health workers. An understanding about interdisciplinary collaboration needs to be given since students take theoretical education. Learning about interprofessional education (IPE) needs to be evaluated whether it provides benefits to students in achieving learning objectives. The purpose of this study was to determine student perceptions after participating in IPE collaborative learning. Method: This research is a descriptive cross-sectional quantitative study. Samples from this study were students of the UKDW Medical Faculty and the USD Pharmacy Faculty who participated in the IPE Communication Clinical Skills. A total of 269 students were given the Google Questionnaire IPE questionnaire, which was adapted from the Student Perceptions of Physician-Pharmacist Interprofessional Clinical Education (SPICE). The reliability of the questionnaire measured by Cronbach’s Alpha was 0.72. Results: The number of students who filled out the questionnaire was 176 people (response rate of 65.43%), consisting of 99 undergraduate students of the UKWD Faculty of Medicine and 170 students of the Faculty of Pharmacy. Students tend to choose to agree or strongly agree from all four research scales. Discussion: The instrument contains 10 questions and contains 3 factors that emphasize collaborative teamwork, roles and responsibilities of each profession, and patient outcomes. The total mean value of all questions shows that according to students' perceptions, interprofessional education sessions are beneficial for students in understanding these factors. The results of the study generally describe students having a positive perception about IPE learning. Conclusion: Students consider that the management of health by the interprofessional team can improve the health and satisfaction of patients, the importance of working with other professions, and understanding roles and responsibilities in collaborative practice.

Abstract

Background: Constructive feedback is an essential component of learning for medical undergraduate. Communication culture of high-power distance and collectivism might have influence in shaping students' perception of the benefit of feedback. Aim: This study is aimed to identify feedback characteristic which associated with students' perception of learning benefit, and further explored the mechanism feedback influence on students learning process. Method: This is a mixed method study, with explanatory sequential approach. The setting is first-year medical undergraduate students at FK UKDW who enrolled in skill lab class (pulmonary physical examination). The first phase is a quantitative study using questionnaire on feedback characteristics and student’s perception of feedback benefits, further analysed with linear regression methods. The next phase is an interview study on selected students with semi-structured questions, and further analysed with thematic analysis. Result: There are 82 students who returned the questionnaire. Quantitative analysis showed that feedback including comparison to standard (B=2,26; p = 0,003) and follow-up planning (B=3,47; p < 0,001) are associated with perceived benefit by students. Further interview of 11 students discovered that students have received clear and concise outline through the feedback process. On the other hand, the communication culture, poor execution of feedback process, and interconnectedness between each characteristic may influence the students' perception of benefits. Conclusion: Feedback is beneficial for medical undergraduate students in high power distance and collectivist culture, specifically feedback with comparison to standard and follow-up planning.

Abstract

Background Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder in the world. The incidence of insomnia in some medical students in Indonesia can also reach half of the population. Meanwhile, sleep is the phase where oxygen transport and neuron performance occur optimally. Objective This study aims to determine the association between the degree of insomnia and the grade point average predicate for Duta Wacana Christian University, Yogyakarta medical students. Methods The analytical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in this research. The number of participants were 213 medical students from 2016, 2017, and 2018 batches who were taken randomly. The degree of insomnia data was taken by the insomnia severity index questionnaire. Results Through the questionnaire, 47.83% of male students and 39.67% of female students experienced sub-threshold insomnia, 7.6% of male students and 7.44% of female students experienced moderate-severity insomnia, and 0.82. % of female students have severe insomnia. Data were analyzed using Chi-square statistical test. Based on the results of the Chi-square analysis, the p-value obtained is 0.058 (p-value > 0.05) so the results are not in accordance with the hypothesis Conclusion It can be concluded from these results that the degree of insomnia does not associate with the grade point average predicate for medical students of Duta Wacana Christian University, Yogyakarta. Keywords: degree of insomnia, grade point average predicate, medical students

Abstract

COVID-19 is a new disease that is spreading continuously throughout the world. The government has tried to suppress the rate of spread by providing promotions and education to the public through mass media. The purpose of this research is to find description and relevance with students’ knowledge levels, precautions, and actions regarding COVID-19. This study used a cross-sectional research design using a quantitative approach. This study used primary data, namely filling out a questionnaire involving 108 respondents with inclusion criteria selected using sequential sampling method. The questionnaire consists of respondents' demographics, questions about knowledge, precautions, and actions regarding COVID-19 and uses the spearman rank test to determine the correlation between knowledge of COVID-19, precautions of COVID-19, and preventive actions for COVID-19. Research data showed that most of the respondents had good knowledge of COVID-19 (n = 78), had good precautions of COVID-19(n = 98), and had good preventive actions for COVID-19 (n = 72). There is a significant relevance between knowledge and precautions of COVID-19 (r = 0.301; p = 0.002), knowledge and preventive actions for COVID-19 (r = 0.227; p = 0.018), precautions and preventive action for COVID-19 (r = 0.224; p = 0.011). Respondents already have a good level of knowledge, precautions, and preventive actions for COVID-19. For UKDW students, always obey the health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.
