Abstract

Silkworm rearing has high economical value for producing silk material and other beneficial biological materials such as enzyme, antibacterial agent, and antioxidant. For those purposes, it is important to continuously support high quality feed in the silkworm rearing.This study was aimed to evaluate study the growth of silkworm Bombyx mori fed with artificial diet containing different resources of protein (blood meal or soybean meal). The experiment used completely randomized design 5 five treatments artificial feed formulas and 20 repetitions. Each experiment unit consisted of 1 larvae that was reared individually and given different feed. Formula A: 100% blood meal (BM); B: 75%  (BM) + 25% soybean meal (SM); C: 50% (BM) + 50% (SM); D: 25% (BM)+ 75% (SM); and E: 100% SM. Parameters measured were the feed consumption/larvae, opproximate digestibility, ECI (efficiency of conversion of feed ingested), ECD (efficiency conversion of feed digestibility), and body weight gain in fourth and fifth of the larvae instar. Oxygen consumption were measured on the fifth day of the fifth instar before meal and one hour after meal. The result showed that resource of protein did not significantly affect the parameters on the fourth instar, but significantly affected on the fifth instar larvae. Increment of soybean meal in artificial diet increasing oxygen consumption, and resulted decreassing of ECI and ECD value on the fifth instar larvae.

Abstract

The utilization of scad (Decapterus spp.) has not been done optimally. This species is a potential fish to be processed into surimi that is a raw material of fish jelly products, such as fishball. It contains red meat in greater proportion compared to white meat. For this reason, surimi of scad (Decapterus spp.) was produced using alkaline leaching method and mixed with red snapper (Lutjanus sp) surimi to be used a raw material of fishball. The fishball was added by chitosan at concentration of 0.1% as preservative, while carrageenan was added at concentration of 1% as gelling agent. The fishball was stored in chilling condition (0-4 oC). The results indicated that surimi of Decapterus spp. being leached twice showed the same quality as white meat surimi. Fishball containing red snapper surimi and scad surimi of 1:3 added by 25% of tapioca starch showed good physical and sensory characteristics. The mixed surimi of fresh fish meat was better in term of its physical, chemical, and sensory characteristics compared to the frozen one. Chitosan added at 0.1% could preserve the fishball for two weeks on chilling storage (0-4 oC) without causing any change of its physical and chemical characteristics. The fishball produced has a better flavor and texture was similar to commercial one.Keywords: chilling storage, Decapterus spp, fishball, Lutjanus sp, mixed-surimi.

Abstract

Background: Learning achievement is an indicator of success in learning process. There are 3 17% of college students who have difficulty in learning that caused them to have low learning achievement. As one of cognitive ability, working memory is the major factor that affects learning achievement. Level of working memory affects someones ability to learn subjects, understand text book and solve problems in exam. Student with low working memory capacity mostly has poor learning achievement, hard to focus on teachers explanation and easily forget the instructions in learning process. Methods: This research is an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. It was done in Faculty of Medicine Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. Samples were students with age more than 16 years-old, Body Mass Index more than 17, never experiencing heavy head trauma, not having chronic disease, and were willing to be respondent and approved the informed consent. Sampling was done by purposive sampling method after selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: Fifty five students were included in the study, 4 students (7.27%) with low working memory capacity and low GPA, 2 students (3.64%) with low working memory and high GPA, 21 students (38.18%) with high working memory capacity and low GPA, 28 students (50.91%) others were students with high working memory capacity and high GPA. Result shown p = 0.269 (p > 0.05) from data analysis with significance number ? = 0.05 and Odds Ratio (OR) value = 2.67. Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between working memory capacity and GPA of medical student batch 2012 Faculty of Medicine Sebelas Maret University.
