Abstract

Abstract: Astronomy is a natural science that studies celestial objects and phenomena that include observation and explanation, occurs outside Earth and its atmosphere. Location of Indonesia which is at the equator enables the constellations in north sky and south sky can be observed very well. In Asia Pacific, astronomy in Indonesia is also growing and interested by many researchers from abroad. Astronomy also has relationship with aerospace engineering. Aerospace engineering studies about aircraft design. PT Dirgantara Indonesia is also the first and only one aircraft company in Southeast Asia. However, there are obstacles in these potentials, as in Indonesia, astronomy formal education is only at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Besides, facilities and infrastructures to study astronomy are still concentrated in Java. Yogyakarta is known as “Kota Pelajar” where the dynamics of education and tourism are strong enough to make it possible to deliver a High School of Astronomy and Aerospace, precisely in Gunungkidul Regency. Gunungkidul have ecological conditions that are still green and far away from the word "metropolitan" so as can be a place to facilitate astronomical observation. From this location, Sustainable Architecture becomes an approach that combines the aspects of efficiency, conservation, and durability that can be applied to the building and the environment. The efficiency is applied in energy use, particularly in the use of sun light and wind direction, as well as the efficiency of land use, so that not all of the site is covered by buildings that can provide green open space. On the conservation aspect is closely linked to sustainable development, especially in the use of natural resources. Conservation will keep the natural resources remain on a sustainable point. Durability is the resistance of a building and environment. In this case, how to make the building can last a long time because of the threat around the environment is minimized. It begins from site planning, the use of land that is not harmful to the building and surrounding communities. Keywords: aerospace, astronomy, education, Gunungkidul, high school, sustainable architecture.

Abstract

The role of level II prison in Surakarta as a supporter of the correctional system is based on three aspects. The first aspect is to overcome the problem of prisoners' excess capacity in Indonesia by building prisons in every district or city so that the handling and placement of prisoners are at their place of origin. Second, Surakarta is a city that contributes to the second highest crime rate  in Central Java and the lack of optimal correctional facilities that already exist. Third, the security aspects are the most important factor in establishing prison buildings, because in this era, security is not only done manually but also electronically. The combination of the two security systems can provide the concept of a more modern prison design. The discussion method applied from the beginning to the completion of the design is through the stages of problem identification and exploration, stages of data collection through precedent studies, interviews, observations, and security system theory literature. Then the analysis stages that combine data obtained with theories related to prison buildings. The results of the overall analysis include five concepts of designing prison security system design concepts in the form of deter, detect, delay, halt, and minimize.

Surakarta as one of MICE destinations in Indonesia has hosted many national and international MICE events. The tourists who do MICE activity in Surakarta are expected to become leisure tourists who will visit Surakarta city anotther time. In order to make MICE tourists become leisure tourists later on, the Convention and Exhibition building which is the place of MICE tourist activity needs to show the elements of Javanese Culture as a means to fulfil their curiosity on the city and to make them want to know more. Showing Javanese Culture can be done not only through the facade of building but also by creating Javanese atmosphere inside the the building. The method is to use questionnare to find out what Javanese objects will be displayed on the facade of building and use Peter Zumthor’s atmosphere design to bring up the cultural atmosphere in the building.

Abstract

Abstract: Education is a fundamental need that must be owned by all society level. Today’s education development is one of the results from the education quality improvement. One of the ways to improve the quality itself is by applying the inclusive school. As the contribution to facilitate the same chance in education for disable students, the planning and design for Integrated Inclusive School was created. Integrated Inclusive School was designed in one area considering the fact that Surakarta has not owned yet the Inclusive School in one education area with disable students accommodated (such as blind, low vision, deaf, and physical disability students). The related problem to design is how the form of planning and design concept for Integrated Inclusive School in Surakarta. Besides, the concept could hold inclusive education system to accommodate the need of user by applying the universal design principal. The purpose of Integrated Inclusive School is to accommodate the teaching learning process considering the ability and the activity of disable students by applying universal design. The planning and design of Integrated Inclusive School used Universal Design to support ease, safety, and comfort for everyone without discrimination. The concept of Integrated Inclusive School applied principal universal design which includes the space concept, location and site selection, mass and building appearance.
