Abstract

Ambient media advertising has evolved significantly from its traditional, physically focused origins, yet a comprehensive theoretical framework that integrates digital capabilities remains absent. This article addresses this gap by examining the evolution of ambient media advertising, synthesizing classical theory with digital advertising principles to propose a new conceptual framework. Through a theoretical synthesis approach, this study redefines ambient media advertising in the digital age as a marketing communication strategy that synergistically leverages physical and digital spaces to create unexpected, personalized, interactive, and contextual advertising experiences, powered by data- and sensor technology. The proposed Digital Integrated Ambient Media (DIAM) model comprises five key elements: Contextual Immersion, Personal Relevance, Interactivity, Surprise Effects, and a Data-Driven Feedback Cycle. The findings offer a robust theoretical foundation for future empirical research and provide practical guidance for designing integrated, experience-based advertising campaigns. The key implications of this study are the expansion of ambient media's conceptual boundaries and the provision of a testable framework for hybrid advertising strategies in contemporary marketing.

Abstract

During the past 2024 general election of Indonesia, the public got encouraged to find out more about Indonesian politics, especially about sensitive Indonesian history. One of the mediums used to show history more effectively is historical documentary films. A historical documentary film which was recently released and went viral in early 2024 is “Eksil”, a film about the testimonies of Indonesian students who were exiled to European countries in 1965—1966 because of their disagreement towards the New Order. Because the film contains sensitive Indonesian history, the film crew of “Eksil” didn’t carry out extensive marketing and limited screenings of the film. The film crew and the audience mainly uses X and Instagram to market the film, especially using testimonies. Therefore, they unconsciously apply the 5A Marketing Model, primarily applying the advocate stage. This research is done to learn about how the film crew and the audience applied the advocate stage of the 5A Marketing Model to market “Eksil”.  Data is collected by collecting screenshots of X and Instagram posts of testimonies regarding the film and mapping them based on time, which are before, during, and after the release of the film in cinemas using content analysis and descriptive qualitative methods. The results show that the application of the advocate stage of the 5A Marketing Model made the public gain interest on watching the film with sixty thousand viewers garnered after 1,5 months of release in cinemas and the marketing isn’t centralized and spread separately, but is continuous from one account to another regardless of influence.

Abstract

Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN) is a form of adverse childhood experience characterized by the consistent lack of emotional responsiveness from caregivers, which often remains unrecognized yet significantly affects long-term emotional and interpersonal development. In late adolescence, unresolved CEN may manifest as emotional dysregulation, difficulty forming healthy relationships, and impaired social functioning. In the Indonesian context, public awareness of CEN remains limited, and design-based social interventions addressing its interpersonal impacts are still scarce. This study aims to develop a visual communication–based social campaign that supports interpersonal recovery from the negative effects of Childhood Emotional Neglect among late adolescents. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, utilizing literature review, questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and observational analysis of existing social campaigns. The campaign was developed through a Design Thinking framework and structured using the AISAS communication model (Attention, Interest, Search, Action, Share), emphasizing empathetic storytelling and emotional engagement. The study resulted in a social campaign titled "Anak Bawang Berhak Disayang" (Every Underdog Deserves to Be Loved), which integrates digital and physical media to foster emotional awareness, encourage reflection on past experiences of emotional neglect, and support sustained interpersonal recovery, particularly through emotional reconnection with parents. The campaign utilizes a website and social media as its primary platforms to guide users through awareness, reflection, and recovery stages. Future research is recommended to evaluate audience impact, emotional outcomes, and behavioral changes using quantitative or mixed-method approaches.
