Abstract

The development of religious character in junior high schools cannot be separated from the role of the principal as an educational leader and manager. This study aims to examine the principal’s strategies in developing students’ religious character at SMP Islam Terpadu Cordova Samarinda. The research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with data validity tested through source and method triangulation. The research focuses on strategies of planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision. The findings indicate that at the planning stage, the principal designs programs through needs analysis, formulation of a religious vision and mission, and collaboration with teachers and parents. Organizing is carried out through the formation of a development team, task distribution, and effective communication among teachers and parents. Implementation is conducted through regular monitoring and feedback from students and parents. Supervision is carried out through classroom supervision, continuous evaluation involving students and parents, and follow-up guidance. Overall, the principal’s strategies have proven effective in developing students’ religious character in accordance with management principles. This study provides practical implications for effective principal strategies in developing religious character at the junior high school level.
