Abstract

Communicable diseases are a serious threat in early childhood. Therefore, it is necessary to educate children as early as possible. This community service, which has been done in two Pre-schools, Viadolorosa and Kamboja, aimed to increase the behavior of students in preventing communicable diseases through intervention addressing predisposing, enabling and  reinforcing factors. Intervention in predisposing factors was conducted through health education related to types of communicable diseases, prevention of communicable diseases and procedure of washing hands. Methods implemented were lecture, demonstration and singing and the media used included laptop, projector and visual teaching aid. Intervention in enabling factor was conducted thorough building a water container in each school as well as providing a package of health promotion kit. For reinforcing factor, intervention involved teachers, parents, and the head village as role models providing an example for students in practicing health behavior and as supervisors to help assess the impact of this project. As such, this integrated approach is expected to improve students? behavior in preventing communicable diseases earlier.

Abstract

Background: Students or health workforces who are interested in understanding social epidemiology are required to have an adequate competency of research. This paper aimed to describe about the difference between quantitative and qualitative methodological approach in social epidemiology and types epidemiological study. Methods: Method applied was a narrative review to  28 English Text books, 2 Grey Literatures and 3 supported articles as example. All of these literatures have been reviewed based on key concept according to the purpose of this paper. Results: The basic premise or paradigm underpinning quantitative and qualitative methodology is related to their ontology and epistemology. Quantitative research or ‘the science of number” is based on the ontology of “objectivism” and the epistemology of “positivist or realist or functional or naturalism or logical empiricism while Qualitative research or “the word science” is based on the ontology of “constructivism” and the epistemology of ‘interpretivism. Study in epidemiology is divided into two parts that are, observational studies and experimental studies. Types of observational studies are descriptive study and analytic such as cross sectional, case control study and cohort while its counterparts are randomized control trials (RCT), field trials, and community trials. Conclusion: Quantitative and Qualitative  approach  in research in social epidemiology  is classified based on their ontology and epistemology. There are two studies in epidemiology, namely, observational study (descriptive and analysis) and experimental study.

Abstract

Abstract

Billboard is an outdoor health communication media aimed to promote health behavior in large audience. This research objective was to describe the effectiveness of billboards in the Oemasi Village Office in terms of visibility, size, and visual design. Descriptive design was applied and 43 respondents were selected by using a convenience sampling technique. Research showed that only 32 respondents (74%) had seen the billboard while the rest, 11 respondents (26%) had not. From 32 respondents, only 27 respondents (84%) had read the message written in while the rest, 5 respondents (16%) had not. Limitations of this media reported were related to the inadequate placement of this media in Village Office as it is rarely visited, the small size of the media leading to the lack of its visibility both picture and written text in reaching the attention of respondents. Therefore, the improvement of size and color is necessary as well as this media to be placed in some selected points in the village to have more attention from the community.

Abstract

Conflict is an unavoidable aspect of group dynamics, including among Generation Z, who are known for their familiarity with digital technology and their inclination towards communication and dialogue. Conflict has the potential to either strengthen or fracture a group. This article explores how effective conflict management can enhance group cohesion within Gen Z. We identify common causes of conflict, such as differences in opinion, misunderstandings, and heightened sensitivity. Various conflict management strategies are analyzed in depth. These include identification, assessment, and problem-solving (Fisher et al.), or avoidance, escalation, and maintenance strategies (Frost and Wilmot). Other approaches like deciding conflict (through domination, compromise, or integral problem-solving), stimulating conflict, reducing conflict, avoiding conflict, and accommodation are also presented as flexible frameworks. Given Gen Z's comfort with multi-personal interactions and discussions, strategies promoting consensus-building, constructive confrontation, and the achievement of shared goals will be highly effective. With proper management, conflict can be transformed into positive energy, fostering sustainable shared experiences, nurturing group bonds and pride, and ultimately significantly strengthening the unity and identity of Generation Z.
