Abstract

Communicable diseases are a serious threat in early childhood. Therefore, it is necessary to educate children as early as possible. This community service, which has been done in two Pre-schools, Viadolorosa and Kamboja, aimed to increase the behavior of students in preventing communicable diseases through intervention addressing predisposing, enabling and  reinforcing factors. Intervention in predisposing factors was conducted through health education related to types of communicable diseases, prevention of communicable diseases and procedure of washing hands. Methods implemented were lecture, demonstration and singing and the media used included laptop, projector and visual teaching aid. Intervention in enabling factor was conducted thorough building a water container in each school as well as providing a package of health promotion kit. For reinforcing factor, intervention involved teachers, parents, and the head village as role models providing an example for students in practicing health behavior and as supervisors to help assess the impact of this project. As such, this integrated approach is expected to improve students? behavior in preventing communicable diseases earlier.

Abstract

Maternal mortality remains a pressing public health issue in Indonesia, particularly for mothers residing in rural regions who often forego postnatal health services due to traditional beliefs and practices. This qualitative research delved into the cultural perspectives of the local community to gain insight into the care practices of postpartum mothers in rural areas of NTT Province, Indonesia. The study involved in-depth interviews with nine participants, including four postpartum mothers, four family members, and one village midwife, with the interview data analyzed thematically. The research revealed that cultural beliefs and practices revolving around the postpartum period in NTT align with shared beliefs and traditional practices found in various Asian societies. This includes behavioral taboos and food restrictions. The study also identified two primary postpartum traditions aimed at restoring the postpartum mother's body heat and strength. All postpartum mothers adhere to traditional care practices because they believe in their benefits, pressure from family members, and fear of non-compliance consequences. However, postnatal mothers and their families have low postnatal care visits and do not receive adequate information about postpartum care. Health literacy for postpartum women and their families in rural areas needs to be improved and health workers should provide culturally sensitive maternal health services.

Abstract

Along with the Covid-19 vaccination, the public is encouraged to continue to apply health protocols. Individuals who have been vaccinated still have a risk of contracting Covid-19. This study analyzed the correlation of knowledge, the availability of facilities, and family support with the application of health protocols after Covid-19 vaccination among FKM students. The research used analytic observational with a cross-sectional approach and 296 students as the research sample, obtained with a stratified random sampling technique. The results showed that there was a correlation between knowledge (p 0.000), availability of facilities (p = 0.000), and family support (p = 0.000) with the implementation of post-Covid-19 vaccination health protocols for FKM students. FKM students should be good role models and use different ways of health promotion to raise the public’s awareness of the significance of health protocol implementation after the Covid-19 vaccination.
