Abstract

This study aims to review and analyze the implementation of green chemistry in chemistry learning through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), focusing on research trends, methodologies, learning contexts, and forms of application. Green chemistry, introduced by Anastas and Warner, emphasizes the design of efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly chemical processes. Its integration into chemistry education is essential to foster sustainable development and environmental responsibility among students. Data were collected from 100 articles published between 2016 and 2025 in Google Scholar and Publish or Perish, of which 15 articles met the inclusion criteria for further analysis. Narrative synthesis was applied to extract and categorize information regarding research focus, methodology, learning context, and forms of implementation. The results indicate that applying green chemistry principles in chemistry learning strengthens conceptual mastery, motivation, creativity, and ecological awareness. Reported strategies include curriculum integration, eco-friendly laboratory practices, micro-scale experiments, and the development of innovative teaching modules. Despite challenges such as limited resources, teacher readiness, and lack of media, opportunities remain promising when aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In conclusion, integrating green chemistry into chemistry education enriches learning while supporting the formation of future generations who are more environmentally conscious and committed to sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of feasibility, practicality, and the students' readability response to e-handout-based discovery learning. This development research uses 4-D development models developed by S. Thiagarajan, Dorothy S. Semmel, and Melvin 1 Semmel. The 4-D development model has four stages: the Define stage, the Design stage, the Development stage, and the Disseminate stage, but this study is limited to 3-D: the Define stage, the Design stage, and the Development stage. The subjects in this study were 3 material experts and media experts, five chemistry subject teachers, and the readability response of MIPA 1 class XI students, with 33 people. Data collection instruments include an interview sheet, an e-handout assessment sheet by a material expert validator and a media expert, a practicality sheet by a teacher, and a student reading response sheet. Data analysis techniques use qualitative and quantitative data. Based on the results of the study, an analysis of the needs of students showed that students agreed that it was necessary to develop an e-handout based on discovery learning on the reaction rate material. Then, assessment by material expert validators of an 85% well-deserved e-handout, assessment by media expert validators of an 86% well-deserved e-handout, teacher practicability of an 88% well-deserved or very practical e-handout, and 87% of students' readability response to e-handouts is said to be very decent or very high.

Abstract

The state of science education in Grade V at SDN 105855 PTPN II Tanjung Morawa indicates that students' scientific literacy remains low, and there is limited use of instructional media that connect scientific concepts with everyday realities. Consequently, students have not fully grasped the interrelationships among science, the environment, technology, and social contexts within daily life. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach utilising the ADDIE model—comprising the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The trial involved 25 students from class VA. Findings reveal that the designed instructional material achieved excellent validity ratings. Expert assessments recorded validity scores of 92.42% from the subject matter expert, 84.33% from the media expert, and 80.00% from the language expert. Regarding practicality, feedback from both teachers and students fell into the "highly practical" category, with scores of 91.11% and 92%, respectively. Meanwhile, effectiveness testing demonstrated a significant increase in students' average scores, rising from 48.00 in the initial evaluation to 88.00 in the final evaluation. The N-Gain calculation yielded a mean score of 0.7806, falling within the high-level category. Furthermore, a one-sample t-test analysis produced a significance value of 0.000 (less than 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Ultimately, the SETS-based science instructional material covering the digestive system proved to be valid, practical, and effective in enhancing the scientific literacy skills of elementary school students.
