Abstract

“Matriculation” program is a program held by Language Development Institution of IAIN Langsa to prepare and to check the students’ basic knowledge of English. This paper reports the contribution and influence of “Matriculation” program to the students’ English performance. 60 students from 12 different fields at IAIN Langsa during the 2014-2015 academic year and 10 lecturers were chosen as samples. Data were collected using questionnaire, interview and document, and analyzed by using mixed method. The findings indicate that there is only weak and limited contribution of “Matriculation” to the students’ English performance.

Abstract

In the digital era, English learning often extends beyond the classroom as students engage with authentic content via social media, online videos, and games. This study investigates how Informal Digital Learning of English (IDLE) and Extramural English (EE) activities foster vocabulary acquisition and motivation among English education students at IAIN Langsa. The researcher employs a qualitative approach, collecting data through semi-structured interviews and observations. Thematic analysis of the data revealed that learning was driven by audiovisual input, a synergy of intrinsic and ideal L2 self-motivation, and mediated by individual learning styles. Despite the prevalence of these behaviors, formal curricula seldom integrate such informal experiences. This research addresses that gap by examining how digital habits influence vocabulary growth and learner autonomy, which aligns with Indonesia's Merdeka Belajar curriculum and its emphasis on self-directed learning. The findings offer pedagogical insights for bridging formal instruction with informal digital practices, making English education more relevant. Conducted during a critical period of digital transformation, this study provides timely contributions to curriculum development and teacher education, empowering learners to harness their daily digital interactions for lifelong language proficiency.

Abstract

This study examines in depth the development and feasibility of a Linktree portal-based Fiqh learning media for students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) in Aceh, with a specific case study at MTsN 1 Langsa. The background of this research is rooted in significant pedagogical challenges in Fiqh learning, where conventional methods dominated by one-way lectures often fail to stimulate the motivation and engagement of students who are digital natives. This study uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach with a 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The main contribution of this research lies in the theoretical integration between the Technology Acceptance Model in Islamic Education (TAMISE) and Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) in designing micro-learning media. The validation results show that the developed Linktree portal has very high validity (Media Expert: 94%; Material Expert: 92%) and is categorized as very feasible. Field findings indicate that the microsite information architecture on Linktree effectively reduces extraneous cognitive load through segmentation principles, while rigorous content curation ensures compatibility with Islamic values, thereby increasing technology acceptance among madrasah teachers and students. This study offers a practical and scalable solution to address the digital divide in Islamic educational institutions by leveraging efficient and user-friendly aggregator technology.
