Abstract

Yowis Ben's film, which raises regional languages and iconic places in Malang City, creates a phenomenon that makes the audience amazed when they see several locations of Yowis Ben's films that take pictures in iconic places in Malang City and the use of regional languages, namely Javanese and Sundanese, in almost the entire dialogue in film. This study uses Media Theory (Medium Teor) to show that film industry can have a positive impact on the development of tourism and culture.  The appearance and grammar in the film can evoke a sense of pride and curiosity about the culture, customs, and traditions that are embodied in the script and storyline of the film. This shows that the film industry can have a positive impact on tourism and cultural development, and films can also be used for promotional media or tourism advertising. This study aims to find out how films can be a communication medium in an area. Using descriptive qualitative methods by conducting film study and literature studies, the results of the research show that the Yowis Ben 1 and 2 films as one of the mass communication media can reach the community effectively so that they can move people to make tourist visits and are proud to use regional languages as depicted in the film. Keywords — Communication Media, Film Yowis Ben, Malang

Abstract

This study discusses the Dramaturgy lecture process using a direct acting practice approach in a theater performance project where the city is positioned as object material, then interpreted and articulated by students through the process of creating theatrical performances. The creation process went through collaborative learning from research on cities, script writing, to creation of works, while Dramaturgy is placed as a theoretical approach in theater creation. This research is an effort to provide empirical experience to students in creating teamwork as a basis for film and television work patterns. This study uses a participatory action research method where the author is involved in all actions taken by film and television (FTV) students. This study found that through project: 1) students gain an understanding of dramaturgy as a science of analyzing drama with all kinds of derivatives related to it, 2) it is more effective to gain empirical experience as a real provision when creating film and Television works, 3) students can create works based on real cases. This research is expected to be able to strengthen KBK in FTV study program and become a treasure trove of intellectual property particularly in Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and generally become a strategy for developing dramaturgy learning for Indonesia Society

Abstract

Abstract

This topic was chosen because the phenomenon of narcissism among teenagers, especially in the music world, has become a relevant issue in relation to popular culture and identity construction. The focus of the study lies in how visual signs such as space, color, wardrobe, and props reflect Hana’s narcissistic symptoms. The research method applied is artistic research framed by Roland Barthes’ semiotics, which categorizes signs into three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The analysis shows that production design functions as a medium for expressing the character’s psychology. The blue sweater with a star emblem represents Hana’s narcissistic ambition, while the plain blue sweater reflects the collapse of her ego and the loss of self-confidence. The shift in color palette from warm tones in the early act to cool tones in the final act marks an emotional transition from optimism to emptiness. Thus, this study affirms that production design not only supports the aesthetic aspects of film, but also strengthens the psychological representation of the character through visual signs. Keywords: Production Design, Fiction Film, NPD, Barthes’ Semiotics, Visual.

Abstract

By utilising the framework of Adaptation Studies and Participatory Action Research (PAR), this study examines the intermedial adaptation of the Sundanese radio folktale Si Rawing into the multimedia theatre performance Tilu Si Rawing Makalangan. The project investigates how the cultural significance of classical auditory storytelling may be preserved while being recontextualised via digital performance, taking into consideration the changing media environment that has resulted in the fall of radio theatre and the emergence of digital platforms. In a theoretical sense, the research draws on Hutcheon's concept of adaptation as re-interpretation and Kattenbelt's idea of intermediality in order to explore the relationship between sound, imagery, and embodiment in the process of transformation across media. In terms of methodology, Participatory Action Research (PAR) made it possible for a creative process that was collaborative to take place. This process involved academics, theatre artists, and radio practitioners working together in iterative cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The findings demonstrate that adaptation functions not as a medium transfer but rather as a dramaturgical reconstruction. In this reconstruction, the structural inadequacies of the radio script were reinterpreted in order to emphasise psychological conflict, spatial-temporal coherence, and audience immersion. The digital liveness that resulted from the integration of filmic projections, dance, and live performance has reawakened the imaginative possibilities that were formerly present in radio narrative. By suggesting an epistemic model of cultural revitalisation that connects local oral traditions and digital performance aesthetics in the Indonesian context, the study makes a contribution to contemporary discourse on adaptation and intermedial performance.

Abstract

Film education in Indonesia, often prioritizing industry goals, forcing students to adapt to industry targets and serve the economic gains over artistic achievement. As Indonesian Film and Television Study Program Association (PROSFISI) stated, this industry-oriented view correlates to students who merely consume foreign film entertainment, causing them to become less active, creative, and connected to Indonesian culture and identity. An approach like this breeds a lack of critical thinking and a limited artistic imagination with montage as a contextual device. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that recreate montage in filmmaking education in Indonesia is an opportunity to renew freedom, cultural address, and critique. Through Practice-Led and Artistic Research, the research was conducted in the Film Study Program Bandung, analyzed the application of montage theories by Eisenstein, Pudovkin and Vertov, on student films. Findings suggest that narrative and symbolic montage facilitated deeper meaning around local topics and more straightforward and emotionally resonant narratives. Through a consideration of social-cultural issues the study shows the power of the montage as both an artistic and research tool. This study argues that the curriculum should approach film as a tool that promotes experimentation integrating montage and local culture to deepen student” understanding of film beyond its commodified nature.
