Abstract

EFFORTS TO PREVENT JOINT PAIN WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ARDUINO UNO-BASED PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION EXERCISES IN MEDAN SUNGGAL VILLAGE. Arduino Uno-based joint pain prevention efforts are a tool to detect muscle strength with an electromyogram that is connected via a smartphone application. The results of the recording on several muscles that experience joint pain such as hands, feet will experience a sensor signal that is read by CMRR (0-500 Hz) around -92 dB, dimensions 41x20x5mm. The purpose of this implementation is to provide stimulation to the Arduino Uno-based device attached to the arm and leg muscles which produces an Electromyogram (EMG) sensor signal recording. The recordings will show the extent to which the muscles can interact with progressive muscle relaxation exercise movements and provide a relaxing effect to the participants. This service activity was attended by 39 elderly people who have a history of joint pain due to comorbidities such as sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid in Medan Sunggal village. Retrieval of data using a smartphone application that is stored automatically during implementation. This service activity produces a muscle detector and therapy device that provides a relaxing effect on breathing when doing progressive muscle relaxation exercises. This is evidenced by the response of the participants with this activity helping to carry out progressive muscle relaxation training activities every day at home.

Abstract

The Joint Business Group of Pondok Maggot Marelan which is located in the Village of Falls, District of Medan Marelan, Medan City is a business group that carries out the cultivation of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) which has been able to produce maggot larvae of about 60 kg per week. The existence of this group is very helpful for the community and the local government in managing the existing organic waste. The increase in the production of maggot larvae is hampered because the capacity of the maggot house is still too small. In addition, the processing of existing maggot larvae is also still limited, namely as chicken or duck feed. This service aims to assist partners in increasing and managing the production of existing maggot larvae. Making maggot houses and training in making floating fish feed using maggot larvae is also important as an alternative in post-harvest management of maggot larvae. This service output program includes fish feed training services, making BSF maggot houses with temperature and humidity sensors, activity videos, and scientific articles. BSF cultivation counseling and training activities have been carried out well. The conclusion of this activity is an increase in maggot production due to the addition of BSF maggot biopond houses. In addition, partners also gain new knowledge in the form of how to manage BSF maggots into floating fish feed that can be used in freshwater fish farming.

Abstract

The learning model is one of the important parts in the world of education. Learning models with the involvement of play can help students understand mathematic and science. One method of play that can be used by elementary students is the Kotak Pas. Kotak Pas is a learning media that is easy to use, easy to carry or move to place. Kotak Pas is equipped with ten game books that contain mathematic and science. Each book has levels, from the easiest to the most difficult. Community service activities are carried out with several methods, namely conducting surveys and designing teaching materials, introducing Fitting Boxes, training teachers and students with Kotak Pas, and feedback.

Abstract

This activity was conducted in July and November 2020. Partners of this activity are a freshwater fish farmer community located on Jalan Gatot Subroto no. LK 336 IV, Sukamaju,  Binjai Barat Distirct, Binjai, Sumatera Utara. The main problems faced by partners are 1) Farmers have difficulty in providing fish feed in the form of worms 2) The price of worms continues to increase, so it is difficult for breeders to provide good nutrition 3) Community do not yet know what it flies BSF (Black Soldier Fly) 4) The community does not yet know how to cultivate BSF 5) The community does not know that BSF Maggot is a high protein feed. The purpose of implementing this activity is 1) so that farmers get a replacement feed worm 2) Farmers can get fish feed with good nutrient and reasonably priced 3) BSF Maggot cultivation training, so farmers know 4) as a source of increasing income for freshwater fish farmers. The output target to be achieved from this activity program is that farmers can cultivate and use BSF as freshwater fish feed. Output details of the program produced include 1) training and assistance services for BSF Maggot cultivation 2) Video Activities 3) Scientific articles about mentoring cultivating devotion Maggot BSF. BSF extension and cultivation training activities have been carried out well, and have resulted in video activities on YouTube and also publications in online mass media. The conclusion of this activity partners know the advantages of BSF and can cultivate BSF properly.

Abstract

The accuracy of measuring instruments is very important in every use of tools, both in trade transactions and other fields that require measuring instruments. In the field of trade, the use of accurate measuring scale in a transaction is considered very important in determining the final amount that must be paid by consumers. At the Tigabinanga fruit market, differences in measurement values were found with an accuracy of up to 600 grams. Therefore, to maintain the accuracy of the scale measurements, regular re-calibration must be carried out. The introduction of the re-calibration process was carried out by Lecturers and assisted by students of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, University Sumatera Utara (USU) in two places, namely the Tigabinanga Fruit Market and socialization to students of SMAN 1 Tigabinanga. This activity is a community service activity from the USU Vocational Faculty that was well received by traders and students. The lack of awareness of traders to re-calibrate and the small number of scales found that have a valid calibration stamp show that the importance and provide a real effect of this socialization. In addition, the introduction of calibration was also carried out students of SMAN 1 Tigabinanga, the students were also considered as right target, where students showed enthusiasm and deep curiosity about the calibration and recalibration processes which are important in the use of simple measuring instruments, even on market scales.
