Abstract

Access to clean water, eradicating mosquito larvae, and understanding the impact of smoking at home are crucial factors influencing the health and well-being of communities worldwide. These issues are especially pertinent in areas where knowledge and resources may be limited. The village of Kelambir is one such community where these concerns are paramount. This research aims to shed light on the knowledge and behavior of Kelambir Village residents regarding these key health determinants. Data was collected through questionnaires from 103 respondents interviewed. The results showed that the majority of respondents (89.3%) utilized clean water and had taken proactive steps to eradicate mosquito larvae (69.9%). Despite these positive actions, there were still respondents who depended on unsafe water sources (7.8%) and had not consistently taken measures against mosquito larvae (30.1%). Furthermore, approximately 55.3% of the respondents reported smoking at home, emphasizing a behavior that can significantly increase the risk of respiratory diseases. Keywords: Knowledge, Kelambir Village, PHBS

Abstract

This study examines strategies employed by Civic Education (PPKn) teachers in internalizing tolerance values as conflict prevention efforts at SMA Negeri 1 Medang Deras, a multicultural secondary school in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Grounded in Berger and Luckmann's social construction theory, the research addresses the knowledge gap regarding how PPKn teachers operationalize tolerance education in heterogeneous school environments. A descriptive qualitative design was employed, collecting data through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis during April-July 2025. Purposive sampling identified PPKn teachers as key informants, eleventh-grade students as primary informants, and school administrators as supporting informants. Data analysis followed Miles et al.'s interactive model, employing triangulation to ensure trustworthiness. Findings reveal five synergistic strategies: value-based learning integrating tolerance into curriculum content, problem-based learning addressing real social issues, teacher role modeling demonstrating respectful behavior, contextual teaching linking theoretical concepts to students' lived experiences, and reflective practices encouraging critical self-examination. These strategies successfully transformed abstract tolerance concepts into concrete behavioral dispositions, evidenced by students' spontaneous promotion of tolerance beyond instructional contexts and increased comfort among minority students. The study validates social construction theory in educational settings, demonstrating how tolerance values undergo externalization through teacher modeling, objectification within classroom culture, and internalization through student meaning-making. Results offer evidence-based guidance for educators implementing tolerance education in multicultural contexts while identifying the necessity of multi-strategy approaches for effective values internalization.

Abstract

This study addresses the problem of declining internalization of Pancasila values among students, particularly in the context of character education. The objective is to explore how Scout extracurricular activities at SMP Terpadu Al-Farabi, Tanjung Anom, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, serve as a medium to strengthen these values. The research specifically aims to examine how the principles of Pancasila—belief in God, humanity, unity, democracy, and social justice—are applied through Scouting activities and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting their implementation. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The participants included the school principal, two Scout mentors, and ten eighth-grade students actively participating in the Scout program. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, involving data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that Scout extracurricular activities significantly shape student character by embedding Pancasila values into daily practice. These are evident in students' discipline, teamwork, leadership, patriotism, and responsibility. However, the implementation faces obstacles, including limited facilities and inconsistent mentoring. Despite these challenges, the study finds that scouting remains a highly effective platform for civic education when properly supported and aligned with character-building goals.

Abstract

The declining cooperation spirit among students is a significant concern in the effort to shape the character of the younger generation. Character education, particularly through the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Program, is crucial to instill Pancasila values from an early age. This study aims to explore the character-strengthening strategy of the Pancasila Student Profile at Darul Mustafa Elementary School, Medan, focusing on implementing the value of cooperation. Using a case study approach, this qualitative research used in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies as data collection techniques. The results show that Darul Mustafa Elementary School implements a holistic and integrated strategy. The values of the Pancasila Student Profile, including cooperation, independence, critical thinking, creativity, global diversity, and faith and piety, are implemented through integration in teaching and learning activities in every subject and school cultural habits (e.g., class duty, deliberation, appreciation). Outside the classroom, the application of these values is reinforced through routine activities such as "Clean Saturday" and congregational worship. Teachers act as facilitators and role models, guiding students in collaboration and conflict resolution. The school supports teachers through ongoing training and has policies encouraging the creative integration of cooperative values. Key challenges include curriculum density, student diversity, consistent value instillation, and support from home. Despite this, the school continues to strive through forums to share good practices among teachers and other adaptive strategies.

Abstract

Bullying remains a prevalent issue in many school environments, including vocational institutions, with harmful effects on students’ psychological well-being and social development. While previous studies have explored general bullying prevention strategies, limited attention has been given to how integrity-based character education, led explicitly by Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) teachers, contributes to this effort. Addressing this gap, the present study aimed to describe the role of PPKn teachers in strengthening integrity character education to prevent bullying at SMK Karya Bhakti, Batubara Regency. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The participants consisted of PPKn teachers, homeroom teachers, and selected students who were purposefully chosen based on their involvement in character-building efforts. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that PPKn teachers played a strategic role in shaping students’ integrity, particularly through learning emphasizing honesty, responsibility, and exemplary conduct. Teachers also contributed by fostering an inclusive classroom climate and employing persuasive, educational approaches in addressing bullying behavior. Their involvement extended beyond formal instruction to daily interactions that modeled ethical behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the meaning of character education in Civics Education (PKn) learning at MTs Laboratorium UIN Sumatera Utara (UINSU) and the role of teachers in shaping students' character. Character education is an important focus in the Merdeka Curriculum and in reinforcing Pancasila values to produce a generation that is virtuous, religious, and has a sense of nationalism. This study uses a qualitative case study design with PKn teachers and students in grades VII–IX as informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, and then analyzed using the interactive analysis techniques of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2014), with source and method triangulation to ensure data validity. The research results show that character education in Civics at MTs Lab UINSU is implemented in an integrated manner through active learning, group discussions, case studies, and attitude assessments that emphasize discipline, responsibility, honesty, and respect for diversity. Civics teachers act as facilitators, mentors, and role models in instilling character values, supported by policies and a religious, conducive school environment. However, challenges such as differences in students' character readiness, limited access to technology, influences from the outside school environment, and limited learning time become obstacles to the optimal internalization of character.
