Abstract

A director is a person who gives directions, instructions, and guidance to the performers or actors in aspects of their acting, dialogue, movements, and the way the dancers walk in a performance of traditional Javanese dance-drama, or wayang orang. The director is responsible for the entire process of a work’s creation, up to the time of its performance. According to Sardana, a director must have the ability to cast actors or actresses in particular roles, according to their abilities as wayang orang performers.Keywords:  Director and wayang orang.

Abstract

The process of an artist’s journey through life is closely related to his or her social and cultural environment. Surono is an artist who is highly regarded, especially in the traditional art of wayang orang (a form of traditional Javanese stage show). He is not only skilled in the art of wayang orang but also as a dancer, singer, director, comedian, and Javanese gamelan musician, and is therefore often referred to as a “complete” artist. Keywords: Artist, all-rounder, and creativity.

Abstract

Traditional Surakarta style dance is a cultural heritage that must not be changed. It hasbeen passed down over many generations as a legacy that still adheres to the rules and regulationsthat were first determined by early dancers. The presence of Surakarta style dance in the royalpalace is an example of an important cultural heirloom that belongs to the king and is also aconcept for the king’s power or legitimacy.Â
