Abstract

This study compared the..effectiveness..of..Buerger..Allen..exercise with foot exercise on peripheral blood circulation and..fasting..blood..glucose..levels..in..patients with..Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This comparative analytical research uses a pretest-posttest design of 2 groups in pairs. Thirty-two patients..with..Type..2 Diabetes..Mellitus..were..divided..into two groups, consisting of 16 people. The first and second groups were treated with the Buerger..Allen..and foot..exercises, respectively. The..Ankle..Brachial test for assessing peripheral blood circulation index (ABI) and blood glucose levels (GDP and 2 hours..Post..Pradinal) ..were measured pre treatment and after 24 treatments for eight weeks. The results based..on..the..Paired..t-test analysis showed that there was an increase..in the..ABI value and a decrease in fasting..blood..glucose.. (GDP) levels, and 2 hours Post Prandial (PP) in the treatment..group..that was given the Buerger Allen exercise and the treatment group who was given leg exercises (p). =0.001). Furthermore, from the Independent t-test, it was found that the Buerger Allen exercise had a difference in the increase in ABI values that were higher than the foot exercise(p=0.001). However, the difference was the highest decrease with a decrease in fasting blood glucose (GDP) and 2 hours PP). namely in the foot exercise group (p = 0.004 and p = 0.037). This study concludes that the Buerger..Allen..exercise..is more effective than leg gymnastics to increase the ABI value. In contrast, foot exercise is more effective than the Buerger..Allen..exercise in reducing blood glucose levels

Abstract

This study aims to measure the biological activity of flavonols in the leaves of Sterculia foetida as an antihyperlipidemic drug. The chemical structure of flavonols contained in the leaves of Sterculia foetida was taken from the literature. The target protein used was 3-hydroxy 3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase and the control was simvastatin. Water molecules have been removed with PyMol v2.5.2 Software. Docking between the target protein and flavonols was performed using PyRx-Python Prescription 0.8 Software. The results showed that flavonol compounds have greater potential for antihyperlipidemia compared to control compounds. The equivalent affinity of 3-hydroxy 3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase for flavonols is -8.3, and the affinity of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase for simvastatin is -7.9. Flavonol toxicity studies have shown that flavonols are not potentially carcinogenic and did not cause mutations. The absorption of flavonols in water was higher than that of the control compound.

Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disease that reduces quality of life. It’s often associated with impaired mobility due to pain and muscle weakness, thus being a risk factor for falls down. This study aimed to compare the effect of otago exercise, basic exercise, and a combinations of the two on changes in muscle strenght and functional ability to walk in patients with knee OA. This study was a comparative analytic study with 60 participants divided into three treatments. There were a total of 20 paticipants in each treatment. Repeated ANOVA was used as a statistical test with significancy p ≤ 0,05. The result, there was a significant difference between the three treatment groups in term of changes in muscle strength (p=0.003) and functional ability to wal (p=0.036). Post hoc results showed that the combined otago exercise and basic exercise group had a significantly difference in muscle strength and fungsional ability to walk than the otago exercise and basic exercise group. This study concludes that combining otago exercise and basic exercise is more efective than otago exercise or basic exercise only in increasing muscle strenght and functional ability to walk.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the bioactivity of the compound quercetin in the peel of Allium cepa L as a natural antihypertensive compound. The chemical structure of the quercetin compound found in Allium cepa L peel was taken from the literature. The target protein used was Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE), while the control compound was lisinopril. Water molecules were removed using PyMol v2.5.2 Software. Docking between the target protein and the compound was carried out using PyRx-Python Prescription 0.8 Software. The results showed that the quercetin compound had more significant potential as an antihypertensive compared to lisinopril as a control compound. The affinity ratio of the Angiotensin-converting enzyme with quercetin is -8.1, while the affinity value of the Angiotensin-converting enzyme with lisinopril is -7.1.

Abstract

This study aims to determine changes in ET-1 and F2-isoprostane levels after a 30 km cycling event in the Makassar cycling community. This study used a pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design on 30 male cyclists aged 30-60 years. The sampling technique used is the purposive sampling method. The pretest was carried out the day before the 30 km cycling event, then the post-test was carried out 2 hours after the cycling event. Blood testing is done with an ELISA Kit. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to see changes in ET-1 and F2-isoprostane levels after cycling events. The correlation of changes in ET-1 and F2-isoprostane levels was analyzed using the Spearman test. The results of this study found that the 30 km cycling event had no significant effect on changes in levels of ET-1 (p=0.082) and F2-isoprostane, which means that it has no potential to increase the body's oxidative stress (p=0.688). Changes in ET-1 levels did not correlate with changes in F2-isoprostane levels which showed no association with impaired cardiovascular function (p=0.102).

Abstract

This study aims to determine changes in Nitric Oxide (NO) and F2-Isoprostane levels after a 30 km cycling event in the Makassar cycling community. This research was a pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest & post-test design with 30 cyclists as subjects in the city of Makassar, men aged 30-60 years. Blood sampling was carried out pre-event and post-event cycling as far as 30 Km. Measurement of F2-Isoprostane & Nitric Oxide levels using the ELISA method. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test to see changes in Nitric Oxide (NO)  and F2-Isoprostane levels after participating in a 30 Km cycling event. Data analysis using the Mann-Whitney test was used to see differences in changes in Nitric Oxide (NO)  and F2-Isoprostane levels in the age group, average speed, exercise category, BMI, and smokers. Spearman test to see the correlation of changes in Nitric Oxide (NO)  and F2-Isoprostane levels. The results of this study found that the 30 km cycling event had a significant effect on changes in Nitric Oxide (NO)  levels which could improve the function of the vascular endothelium with p=0.0001. Meanwhile, the 30 km cycling event had no significant effect on changes in F2-Isoprostane levels, which meant that it had no risk of oxidative stress and tissue damage (p=0.688). There is no positive correlation between changes in Nitric Oxide (NO)  levels and changes in F2-Isoprostane levels, which means that changes in the repair of vascular endothelial function seem to suppress free radical production which leads to oxidative stress after cycling as far as 30 Km.
