Abstract

This research concern with the analysis of female character in Lady Eleanore’s Mantle by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The purpose of the research is to describe the female character of Lady Eleanore’s Mantle by Nathaniel Hawthorne short stories by analyzing the main female characters to the development of the plot. This research using two methods, which are qualitative and descriptive. The problem of research is want to desribe the portrayal of female character in Lady Eleanore’s Mantle. The woman is a beautiful, rich, and has high position in her community. Always get more attention and special treatment from other people and make her became to an arrogant girl. At the end, the woman get punishment and died tragically

Abstract

Reading comprehension skill seems to be a complecated subject for students time to time. Teachers as the one who must train studentsto master the skill, keep struggling to utter the problem. This condition need teachers to find out probable solutions. One possiblesolution is by using specific strategy in taching, like the one called Read, Cover, Remember, Retell (RCRR). The purpose of thisresearch is to determine the effect of using Read, Cover, RCRR Strategy on students’ reading comprehension skill. The study isdesigned in quasi experimental method. The subjects of this research were students of English study program ofMuhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. In collecting data, researchers used a test. Result of the study shows that there was anincreasing scores on students’ reading comprehension skill who were taught by using RCRR. Based on the study done byresearchers, RCRR has brought positive effect on students reading comprehension skill. Therefore, the strategy is recommended to be used to teach reading comprehension in classes.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of Read, Cover, Remember, and Retell (RCRR) Strategy on students’ reading comprehension. This current study was carried out by using quasi experimental method. The subjects of this research were 14 Eight semester students of English Study Program of UMB . The instrument used in this study was a reading comprehension test consisted of pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was given before the treatment and post-test was given after the treatment. The result of the study show that there is an increased scores of students who used RCRR Strategy. After conducting the measuremnet,  researchers found that T-count value was lower than T-table (1.1904 < 1.70562). However, the total score was 590 and mean score was 84.28 for experimental group, which was higher than the total score in the control group, 555 and mean score was 79.28. This indicate that RCRR has a significant effect on students reading comprehension skill.
