Abstract

Central Java, despite experiencing robust economic growth, continues to grapple with significant poverty, reflecting a broader national challenge of uneven wealth distribution. The poverty rate as of 2023 stands at 10.77%, highlighting persistent economic disparities. The study aims to analyze how socioeconomic factors like economic growth, HDI, and wage levels contribute to poverty alleviation within the region. The research uses a quantitative approach, employing regression random effect models to understand the dynamics between these variables and poverty rates over the years 2014-2023. Data were processed using Stata 17. The analysis indicates that economic growth in Central Java has an insignificant direct impact on reducing poverty. The research highlights a significant negative correlation between HDI and poverty levels. This study found that wage increases have not significantly impacted poverty reduction. Simultaneously, GDRP growth, HDI, and wages affect poverty in Central Java province. The findings suggest that merely focusing on economic growth and wage increases is not enough to reduce poverty. Comprehensive strategies that also improve human development indices and address income distribution are crucial for effective poverty alleviation.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are 1) testing and analyzing the level of sigma convergence in South Kalimantan; 2) testing and analyzing the convergent beta, including the absolute beta convergence and conditional beta convergence. This study uses static panel data covering 13 regencies/cities in South Kalimantan observed between 2010 and 2019. The data analysis uses the ordinary least square (OLS) regression model. The results showed a sigma convergence marked by a declining variation coefficient in each regency/city. The absolute beta and conditional beta also converged. Poor areas' economic growth is faster than the prosperous regions so they catch up. There has to be close coordination between the central and local governments in formulating policies in handling government and private investment and improving workers' productivity in the agricultural and mining sectors in South Kalimantan.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of poverty in Indonesia by mapping the provinces based on economic growth and poverty rate as well as knowing the determinants of poverty in Indonesia with analysis at the household level. The analysis used secondary data from Susenas (National Socioeconomic Survey) in March 2012. Based on poverty mapping, the provinces are divided into four-quadrant and the analysis of 2007 and 2012 show quadrant position change of some provinces. There are provinces that getting better, those are Central Java and Maluku while North Sumatera, Banten, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and South Sumatera show the worse condition. Analysis determinants of poverty measures probability of a household to be poor using logit regression model find that household characteristics like sex of household head, age of household head, number of household members, employment status of household head, access to credit, education of household head, access of information and communication technology, and locational (rural/urban) significantly affect the poor status of household in Indonesia.

Abstract

Employment has an important role to support a certain economy.  The number of female workers have increased every year, due to family welfare fulfillment and female role shifting as a head of households. This paper aims to observe the driving factors of female labor force participation in East Java-Indonesia. Logit model is incorporated to estimate the parameters which involved total sample of 23.218 women in productive age which consist of 13.473 working women and the rest of 9.745 non working women in East Java. On the basis of micro data level from National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) 2018, the result shows that age, education level, marital status, head of the household status, household size, rural-urban location, and income have a substantial effect on FLFP in East Java.   Keywords: FLFP, Employment Status, Work Decision, Logit Model.  JEL: J01, J20, J21

Abstract

International migration is the process of moving people from one country to another. There is a close relationship between migration and consumption behavior. Migration can be considered as an alternative to improve consumption patterns. The impact of international migration is quite large for the area of origin, one of which is the flow of remittances for the area of origin. Remittance also increases the welfare of recipient households that can increase their income and consumption. This study uses panel data sourced from Indonesian Family life Survey (IFLS) 4 and 5 in 2007 and 2014. using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. results show Ordinary Least Square (OLS) that remittances are significant and have a positive relationship with food consumption, non-food and total food and ownership of assets

Abstract

Education is one of the tools in human capital investment because it is considered important in producing an adequate return to schooling. At the East Java Province in 2015 and 2018 the highest education was marked by a difference in the number of each level of education, especially at the tertiary level, which was still relatively low. So, that will be affect return to schooling received by the workforce. This research uses cross section data sourced from SAKERNAS data in 2015 and 2018, with Ordinary Least Square (OLS). The results of OLS in 2015 and 2018 shown if the level of education, age, worked training, worked experience, sex, and location have a significant effect on income. The results of the OLS regression are then used to calculated return to education based on education level, sex, and location. The results shown if the education achieved produce a rate of return that is always increasing at every level of education while return to schooling based on gender is a difference in junior and university education, in rural areas return to schooling at the primary school is higher than in the urban area. Abstract

Abstract

This study seeks to examine the multidimensional poverty in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to illuminate its nature and extent beyond traditional monetary measures. Utilizing the Alkire Foster method and drawing on data from NFHS-5, the research uncovers a prevalence of multidimensional poverty surpassing that of monetary poverty in the region. Within surveyed districts, the study identifies Ramban as experiencing the highest incidence, contrasting with Srinagar, which exhibits the lowest headcount. Anantnag emerges as the district facing the most intense multidimensional poverty. In exploring the factors influencing multidimensional poverty, binary logistic regression reveals the significant roles of education, occupation, and land ownership. Conflict is identified as an amplifier of multidimensional poverty, and a predictive model achieves an accuracy rate of approximately 82.80%. The study underscores the critical importance of local factors in shaping poverty experiences, emphasizing the roles of nutrition, sanitation, housing, and education. Gender, age, and conflict are highlighted as pivotal determinants in the latter stages of the study. The research concludes with a managerial perspective, offering actionable insights for policy recommendations, development initiatives, and specific steps for government agencies and stakeholders. These proposed interventions aim to address identified determinants and contribute to the overarching goal of reducing poverty in Jammu and Kashmir.
