Abstract

This research aims to ascertain the proclivity of waste in the Mahakam River, identify the category of waste that exhibits the potential to cause pollution, and evaluate the pollution index at the designated site. Water samples were collected at five locations along the Mahakam River in Kutai Kartanegara District, from upstream to downstream. The method of data analysis using the arc gisc software and calculation of the pollution index has been modified to comply with the State Minister of Environment's Decree (KEPMEN LH) No. 115 of 2003. The study's findings indicate an upward proclivity in the total Fecal Coliform waste from the upstream to the downstream of the Mahakam River, with a significant increase observed in the Tenggarong Area. The quality of the waste was measured to be 5400 mg/ltr, surpassing the established environmental quality standards. The Mahakam River exhibits high water quality, up to 4.66 mg/ltr above the established environmental quality standards, although Dissolved Oxygen (DO) waste is primarily located in its upper reaches. The Batuk Area is susceptible to a rise in the pollution index due to Dissolved Oxygen (DO) waste. In contrast, Tenggarong Area is prone to an increase in the pollution index owing to the total Fecal Coliform waste. The pollution levels were measured in five distinct locations along the Mahakam River, namely Batuk Village, Muara Muntai Sub-district, Semayang Lake, Kota Bangun Sub-district, Tenggarong Sub-district, and Jembayan Village. The recorded pollution measures for these locations were 0.599, 0.4576, 0.476, 0.589, 0.526, and 0.583, respectively.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the concentration of ambient air quality NO2 and SO2, determine the trend in ambient air quality NO2 and SO2, and determine the Air Quality Value index for Tenggarong City, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan. The data collection method was using the 18-SPEKTRO-33/MU/SMM-AAS (Passive Sampler Spectrophotometry) method, then analyzed using environmental quality standards, government regulation number 22 of 2021. The research results show that the quality concentration of NO2 gas in Jam Bentong is between (5.23-19.85) µg/m3 and SO2 is between (3.75-38.55) µg/m3, in the Industrial Area NO2 is between (5.54-10.20) µg/m3 and SO2 is between (4.28 -10.41) µg/m3, while in residential locations NO2 is between (2.49-7.98) µg/m3 and SO2 is between (<2.57-10.60) µg/m3. The tendency for ambient air quality NO2 and SO2 at the Jam Bentong location to fluctuate is inconsistent, while the Industrial Location is almost the same as the Residential Location, namely with uniform quality, but all quality concentrations are still below environmental quality standards. The Environmental Quality Index value at the Jam Bentong location is 79,618, this value is included in good environmental conditions. Meanwhile, in industrial locations it is 90,043, this value is included in superior environmental conditions. Meanwhile, in residential locations, the Environmental Quality Index value is 93,429, this value also falls into superior environmental conditions.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the condition of waste in terms of the quality of the elements Fe, Mn, pH and TSS, and to determine the tendency of this waste in the settling pond of coal mines in Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan.               The research results show that at the settling pond location of the open coal mine the concentration of Fe quality is between (0.023 – 6.50) mg/lt and Mn (0.02-2.14) mg/lt, and the TSS quality is 76 mg/lt to 801 mg/lt and the pH is between 6.40 to 8.10. Trends in Fe waste Most of the results are still below environmental quality standards, only in July 2022 the quality will increase to 6.5 mg/lt. Meanwhile, Mn waste for a year is still below the government's standard environmental quality standards, but the highest quality is in September 2024 reaching 3.35 mg/lt, this quality is still below environmental quality standards. The trend in pH quality in general is still normal, only in February 2024 the quality exceeds environmental quality standards, increasing to 8.10 mg/lt. Finally, for TSS quality, the trend is from January to August 2024 to decrease, then in September it increases significantly to 801 mg/lt and then gradually decreases until December 2024 to 182 mg/lt.
