Abstract

One of Batak Toba’s culture defensibility system is Museum of Batak Toba culture in Simanindo village, Simanindo Subdistrict, Samosir District which famous with Huta Bolon Museum. Batak Toba traditional housedominated by wooden materials. The ability of a specific wood type that is the main element in traditional house building is hard to be obtained that obstruct the construction and might threaten the existence and sustainability of the traditional house. The wood type used on Batak Toba traditional house building or wood type suitable to substitute the wood must be known, so that it could be preserved. The purpose of this research is to know the wood type used as the materials of Batak Toba traditional house on Huta Bolon Museum based on public perception. This research used snowball sampling method while the data collectedthrough observation and deep interview towards the informan. The data reduced become a summary which presented on brief description and descriptive qualitative approach for data analysis. Wood type used as the materials on Batak Toba traditional house construction in Simanindo villageused jior wood as the building foundation, attuang wood as the long wall (tustus ganjang), Pinus merkusii wood as the wall (balok ransang), ingul wood as the frame of the floor and as windows/doors, and rappa wood as the roof frame. Key Words:Batak Toba traditional house, snowball sampling, Identification.

Abstract

The amount of waste generated logging plantation forests (HTI) come to the surface environmental impacts, whereas the waste can still function to use and processed into smoke liquid. Smoke liquid products was made from logging waste (HTI) can be used as an alternative to artificial fertilizers or chemicals. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the response of the acacia plants growth by administering smoke liquid. The benefits of this research is to develop the use of smoke liquid as a natural liquid fertilizers, find how to use smoke liquid as a natural fertilizers for the public plant acacia. Increase the economic value and was usability of waste industrial timber estates (HTI). This study uses a was completely randomized design (RAL) with 4 treatments 3 replications, in order to obtain 120 units of plants with each trial consisted of 10 plants. Results from the study can be showed that administration of smoke liquid affect the growth of plants Acacia mangium Willd. Treatment with a dose of smoke liquid 5 ml / 1 L of the water shows the most optimal response to plant growth compared to treatment with a dose of smoke  liquid 1 ml / 1 L of the water and 3 ml / 1 L of water. Giving liquid smoke on the best dose may increase as height, diameter and dry weight of seedlings Acacia mangium Willd. Keywords: Acacia mangium, Utilization, Smoke liquid, Waste industrial  forest plantations (HTI)

Abstract

Bintaro plants grow naturally in Sumatera swamplands, yet people have not utilized this plant because of the lack of knowledge. Bintaro seeds have high oil content which makes it potential as a source of vegetable oil and can be developed as fuel too. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of different maturity level and treatment on the quality of bintaro seed oil content using soxhlet method with n-hexane solvent and also to determine the treatment process to obtain the best quality of bintaro seed oil. The research was conducted in Agricultural Processing Laboratory and Agricultural Product Analysis Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University of Pekanbaru from June to August 2017. From several parameters used, it was found that fruit maturity and extraction method had significant effect on free fatty acid content, iodine number, saponification number, peroxide number, and yield. However, the maturity and extraction methods have no significant effect on oil viscosity. High levels of fat and iodine number in bintaro seeds cause it potential to be developed into a source of vegetable oil.Finally, it is found that the best treatment for bintaro seed oil is by deriving it from 100% ripe fruit extracted using n-hexane solvent with yield of 52,93%, free fatty acid content 3,28%, iodine number  73.52 g I2 / 100 g, peroxide value 14.23 mg O2 / g, saponification value 203.67 mg KOH / g, and a viscosity value 63.28 cP.Keyword: Bintaro seeds, Soxhlet method, Free fatty acid, Saponification number, Viscosity.

Abstract

The necessaries of energy and fuel in Indonesia will be increase every year due to the increasing of development and population growth. The government encourages people to do energy savings and looking for the alternative of energy resources. One of the alternative energy is biomass energy, biomass can be processed and used as an alternative fuel, for example in the form of charcoal briquettes. This research aims to determine the characteristics of charcoal briquettes from the blend of the jabon wood waste and the palm fiber waste. This research used completely randomized design method which consists of 5 treatments and 3 repetitions. The result showed that the waste of jabon wood and the waste of palm fiber  can be used as raw material for charcoal briquettes. The average of water content was 4,28% - 4,76% and the average value of calorific was 5016,48 cal/gram – 6785,68 cal/gram, all treatments are compliance with SNI criteria. The calculation of fuel power does not have the provision of SNI yet, in this research has been obtained an average computation of power fueled by 0,234 gram/minute – 0,308 gram/minute. Keywords: Briquettes, Charcoal, Biomass, Waste

Abstract

Rattan processing as Non Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) create a variety of production activities for various industries rattan craft. Indragiri Hulu District right in Buluh Rampai village is one of which has a very hight potential in the rattan craft industry. This research intend to analyze the magnitude of the cost, acceptance, the marketing of rattan craft and analyze efficiency of the rattan craft business. The population in this research is the rattan craft entrepreneur in Buluh Rampai Village. The method used in this research is using of the cencus method and data collection techniques used in this research is interviews and questionnaires. The result of this research showed that the analysis of rattan craft business in Buluh Rampai Village is 1. The amount of production costs incurred by rattan craftsmen per year is Rp85.517.209. 2. Gross revenue earned of craftsmen per year average amount Rp157.200.000. 3. Net revenue earned of craftsmen per year average amount Rp71.682.791. 4. Marketing channel of the rattan craft there are 2 channels 1) Producer-consumer 2) Producer-collectors-retailer-consumer. 5. Marketing costs of the rattan craft in Buluh Rampai Village isn’t expend costs, this is due the craftsmen directly sell to consumers 6. Results of the analysis of business efficiency that obtained the craftsmen in Buluh Rampai Village 1.83, therefore rattan craft business in Buluh Rampai Village economically feasible to be continued and developed.Keywords: Rattan, Rattan Craft, Costs Production, R/C ratio

Abstract

Nypa fruticans Wurmb producing sap that can be obtained through wiretapping fruit bunches. Nipa sap fresh taste sweet because it contains sugar which is quite high. Nipa sap is processed into bioethanol as a renewable energy source that is being developed still find obstacles in its management due to the community when the sap has been tapped then collected, indirectly sold and stored. The yield of bioethanol is one of the considerations in the process of bioethanol production from nipa sap. Nipa sap sugar levels are high it is possible to produce a high yield. This research aim to determine the effect of storage long time the sap nypa to the yield of bioethanol. This research was conducted experimentally by the method of completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments used were P1 = storage long for 24 hours, P2 = storage long sap for 36 hours, P3 = storage long for 48 hours, P4 = storage long sap for 60 hours, P5 = storage long sap for 72 hours. Data was analyzed by regression analysis. The results of this research shows that the nipa sap storage time significantly affect the yield of ethanol produced. Abstract

The purpose of this research was toknowed utilization mangrove tree (Rhizopora sp.) as foundation of shophouse and correlation to preservation mangrove forest in Indragiri Hilir Regency. Primary data is interview to know number of needs mangrove tree in unit area, source, and management mangrove wood in Tembilahan Subdistrict, Indragiri Hilir Regency. Secondary data is building lisence and extensive of mangrove forest in Indragiri Hilir Regency. Amount average requirement mangrove wood in an unit is 1500 stem with wood’s diameter 5 inch (10,2 cm) and length 7 m. Analysis use pearson correlation between requiment of mangrove wood as shophouse foundation in Tembilahan subdistrict and exetensive of mangrove forest and get ccorrelation coefficient was -0.54. it categories in medium class and don’t same direction. Based signification test show value 0,477 and mean is both variable is not significant.

Abstract

The potential of high-quality wood for various purposes over the past decade is very difficult to obtain. This is due to the high rate of doforestation and forest degradation, especially in Riau Province. Examples of the use of high-quality wood, especially in Riau Province, is as material for creating 'pathways' in the context of preserving track culture in the Kuantan Singingi Regency. The purpose of this study is to determine the physical properties of red balam wood and bintangur that grow in Riau before and after the preservation process, and determine the strength class of red balam wood and bintangur that grows in Riau. The research was carried out on the starur trees and red balam with a diameter of 34-38 cm, tree height 18-22 m. The tree sample comes from the Rumbio customary forest and the Minas Tahura KPHP Riau Province. Examination of physical properties using British standards in 1957. The results showed that based on specific gravity, the red balam wood and bintangur before preserved and included as strong class II. The average moisture content of each wood is 14-30%. The largest wood shrinkage development in each wood occurs at the base of the wood.
