Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have used the media in such a way as to achieve its’ goals. Apart from a fluctuating level of success, the process of integrating the movement of substances with the medium that mediates the achievement of goals becomes an interesting object of study. This article intends to elaborate on how far the meaning and dynamics of  new media, focusing on two websites of social movements in Bojonegoro in achieving NGO objectives. Using narrative text analysis, this paper attempts to parse in simple terms the two pages of the website according to the information system settings and models created by the government of Bojonegoro Regency, East Java. In his analysis, this study uses Habermas's view of the deliberatif discourse of the dam model as a theoretical framework.

Abstract

This article aims to describe complexity of news texts on discourse Desa Tangguh Bencana (Destana) in Yogyakarta and Surabaya which are contained in online media throughout the process of handling the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. This article use the critical discourse analysis (CDA) from Teun A van Dijk’s model (1988) to analyze the structure of news report which consists of two main categories: summary and story. The summary aspect is reduced to an analysis of headlines and leads. The story is revealed to analysis of the situation and comments. The result of analysis found that had been a shift in Destana discourse in 2 (two) online media (merdeka.com, and medcom.id3). The discourse shitfting comes from an informative discourse to an investigative discourse during May – November 2020. Another finding was that there was a pattern of the use of issues and discourses that remain the same as a 'stage' for the appearance of the political elite. They have been using Destana's humanist discourse to become politically charged with the shift in the word 'Desa' into 'Kampung'.

Abstract

Abstract

Multicultural communities in Indonesia produce mythologies related to disease outbreaks. This study aims to map such myths and their impact on trust in COVID-19 information, assuming that trust in the myths influences trust in COVID-19 information. This research is descriptive and qualitative in nature. Data consist of big data and the results of focus group discussions (FGDs) involving participants from three generations, i.e., baby boomers, millennials, and Gen Z, in three regions. Cross-analyses were performed to examine the data. The results of the big data analysis uncover the myths about the spread, detection, prevention, and treatment of COVID-19. Likewise, the FGD analysis shows myths and superstitions around the COVID-19 pandemic, which could be prevented through religious and cultural rituals. The firm belief in the myths and poor public communication by the authorities created ambiguity. The public believes more in myths than the official information. The findings of this study can inform the formulation of culture-based health communication strategies and the optimization of public communications in a health crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This article analysed the discourse construction of online media following the Constitutional Court (MK) of the Republic of Indonesia's decision No.90/PUU-XXI/2023 in November 2023. Online media have addressed the controversy surrounding the ethical violations resulting from the MK's decision in various ways. Utilising the perspective of Critical Political Economy (CPE) on media institutions, this research assumes there is a diversity of content in online media when reporting on the ethical violations of the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court. The research method employed is Corpus-Assisted Discourse Study (CADS) to analyse the frequency and discourse of news coverage from four online news portals (Tempo.co; Detik.com; Okezone.com; and Kompas.com) from November 1 to December 31, 2023. The findings indicate fluctuations in the frequency of word occurrences and dynamics of discourse in the news content that differ among the four online portals, which are related to the pragmatic interests of the media owners. The diversity in frequency and discourse regarding the ethical violation issues places the four studied media outlets within three corridors of tension in news orientation (normative-descriptive, moderate, and critical-radical).
