Abstract

The background of the study in this research is based on the researcher’s experience when doing teaching practice, in which method used by the teacher in teaching and learning process was often assumed as the factor that cause the students speaking problem. So, the researcher used another method in this case the method of contextual teaching and learning can develop the students’ ability in English speaking skill. The design of this research is an experimental study. The kind of the data collected is quantitative data. The data were analyzed statistically by using homogeneity test and t-test. Data analysis was from the beginning and the ending of experimental and control class that is taken from test where as pre and post test score. In addition, homogeneity test and t-test used to prove the hypothesis that has been planned before. There are difference score between students taught using CTL method and conventional method. It is shown that the average of experimental class is higher than control class 78.24 > 73.23. Besides that, the test of hypothesis using t-test shown the result is higher than the number of the t-table. The result of t-test is 33.4 and the number of t-table on α = 5% is 1.98 (33.4>1.98). The hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Keywords: speaking, contextual, CTL method.

Abstract

The development of technology has resulted in many innovations, one of which is in the field of education. Innovation in the field of education today apparently uses online learning systems, online tutoring course is one of the learning systems that make students or else easier to access knowledge anytime and anywhere. One of the E-learning innovations in online learning is an application called Ruangguru. Online study or online tutoring from Ruangguru is the highest number of students who have registered in Indonesia. Education in these days was no longer centered upon a back and forth between student and teacher; todays took on a more networked approach and student having their own direct connection for gain knowledge or information. This encouraged the development of a more personalized way of learning where a student’s independence and various way to gain knowledge. This study aims to analyze innovation e-learning on modern platforms in the development of learning medium Ruangguru.

Abstract

  Abstract: This research is aimed to know the students’ responses to the feedback given by the lecturers during online class and to know the students’ motivation after feedback given. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative. Sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The participants were students of the second semester who takes an English major in Samarinda. The results showed that students felt happy with the feedback given by lecturers toward the learning materials. They can identify their mistakes, so they can correct them immediately and will not repeat the same mistakes. The students also appreciate it because it really helps them as students to be better in the future. In addition, the feedback given also can improve students’ motivation. They become more enthusiastic to learn more.Keywords: feedbacks, perception, online learning

Abstract

This research was aimed to know the errors of pronunciation made by Indonesian singers in singing English song on YouTube. The subjects are singers in the age range of 18 to 25 years old. The researcher found 4 Indonesian singers on YouTube which are famous and have a good voice. This research used qualitative method. To collect the data, the researcher searched an American singer on Google, then found a good song and the lyrics on YouTube. Listen to the original music several times and then try to find the Indonesian singers who covered the same song, the last is listen to their singing and analyze it. The researcher found 14 words that were mispronounced by the Indonesian singers on their YouTube channel. There were 8 consonants, they were /θ/,/ð/, /dӡ/, /d/, /v/, /c/, /s/, /p/, and 2 vowels that mispronounced by them, They were /ɪ/, and /æ/. There were several causes that affect their pronunciation. In this research, the researcher hopes that this research can make the singers, students, teachers, etc, to improve their pronunciation skill.

Abstract

All educational institutions during COVID-19 pandemic move to online learning to prevent the spread of this virus. All students and lecturers of the institutions have no other option. They must use some of online platforms to continue the learning process. The aim of this research was to know the students’ perspective of online learning on speaking class during COVID-19 pandemic. This research was categorized as mixed method research. There were 20 items of the questioner that have been distributed. The result showed that 14 items disagree and 6 items agree.

Abstract

Youtube is a video sharing service that can be accessed freely by many people. They tried to show their skill from its channel, especially gamers. Dylan Pros and Miawaug are the gamers who are interested in playing Free Fire (FF). During the battle, their utterances delivered in many ways. The aim of this research is to know the politeness strategy used by Dylan Pros and Miawaug during battle FF. This research is categorized as a descriptive qualitative with a pragmatic approach. The theory of politeness strategy by Brown and Levinson are categorized into four strategies. They are Bald-on Record Strategy, Positive Politeness Strategy, Negative Politeness Strategy, and Off-record Strategy. The data were taken from the utterances of Dylan Pros and Miawaug. The results showed that the utterances found in Bald-on Record strategy was 87 utterances, Positive Politeness strategy was 32 utterances, Negative Politeness strategy was 15 utterances, and Off-record strategy was 2 utterances. The conclusion of this research is that Bald-on Record strategy was more dominant in its use than others.
