Abstract

This study analyzes the figure of speech and the meaning contained in the lyrics of selected poetry by William Shakespeare. This research applies semantic theory, especially in figurative language. The theory used in analyzing figurative language is Alvius's theory (2003) the use of meaning in literary works. This study uses a deductive method. The analytical technique used in this study uses analytical techniques. The data collection technique used in this research is the observation technique followed by the note-taking technique. The results showed that the total figurative language used in William Shakespeare's selected poetry was 21 data. Data from figurative language includes 5 metaphorical data, 2 simile data, 2 personification data, 2 hyperbole data, 4 oxymoron data, and 6 polysemy data.

Abstract

The Indonesian government promotes discourse on the health dangers of smoking by pasting pictures on cigarette packages to reduce the number of smokers in Indonesia. Therefore, this research uses pictorial discourse on cigarette packaging to provide health warning messages to smokers of kretek packaged cigarettes. This is portrait research with data obtained through observations at the Kretek Museum, Kudus, Central Java, and the Ministry of Health followingRegulation Number 56 of 2017 and analyzed using the BREAK theory. Based on the data and analysis, the primary and secondary discourses use scary images as well as pictures of fruits and plants, respectively. The general type of movement of primary and secondary discourse is DIKO (essence divergent and spiritually convergent)

Abstract

This research entitled Lexicon Analysis on Tell and Gunungsitoli Islands: Social Dialect Studies aims to analyze the similarities, changes, and differences in the form of the lexicon and to determine the matrix language in the use of the Nias language along with the speech levels used by the people of Tello Island and Gunungsitoli, especially the existing Nias students Ekasakti University Padang. The method used in this research is qualitative and quantitative with descriptive type, namely describing shape and form and calculating the percentage comparison between Tello Island and Gunungsitoli dialects obtained from the transcription of interview data. The data obtained are in the form of dialect vocabulary of the Nias language. The data collection technique used is the observation technique using the interview method and then transcription is carried out, so that the data can be analyzed according to the research instrument. The theory used in this research is the theory of lexicon, dialect, and matrix language. The results of the analysis show that GN is the dominant dialect (ML) and PT is the contributing dialect (EL) with the percentage level on the lexicon of the same form same meaning at 61.69%; the lexicon of forms changed the same meaning at 8.65%, and the form lexicon with different form same meaning at 28.5% between PT and GN. The same, changes and differences in form between Tello Island and Gunugsitoli dialects in Nias are caused by geographical conditions which are the main cause.

Abstract

This research is entitled linguistic signs on meaning of megalithic stones in Orahili Gomo, South Nias. It explains the sign of the linguistic meaning of the signifier and the signified, the denotative meaning and connotative meaning of megalithic stone. It aims to describe the sequence of signifier and signified and describe the denotative and connotative meaning of megalithic stone. Based on these sources, the data were collected using the observation method and photo techniques. The analysis is carried out with semiotics, the sign of linguistic meaning and the order of the signifier method. The data were analyzed by relating it to the concept proposed by Saussure (2011) and Chandler (2002). Saussure theory is to classify signifier and signified. Chandler theory is to classify denotative and connotative meanings. Result the analysis is presented descriptively. After analyzing the data, it was found there are several specifications of the meaning of megalithic stone. This study shows that megalithic stones have high cultural significance and value, especially in Orahili Gomo. Megalithic stones have the form of signifier and signified and the meaning we can see from the shape and size of megalithic stones.

Abstract

This research is entitled linguistic on the meaning of tabuik symboik in Pariaman, West Sumatra. It explains the sign of the linguistic meaning of pen and Omen, denotative and connotative meaning on Tabuic symbols. It aims to improve the order of pens and signs and enhance the denotative and connotative meanings in Tabuic symbols. Based on these sources, the data were collected by observation method with interview and photo techniques. The analysis is carried out by semiotics, signs of linguistic meaning and the sequence of presentation methods. The Data were analyzed by associating them with concepts discovered by Chandler (2007).Saussure's theory was to classify the pen and the mark.Chandler's theory is to classify denotative and connotative meanings. The analysis results are presented descriptively. After analyzing the data, it was found that there are several specifications of the meaning of the Tabuik symbol. This research shows that the Tabuik symbol has a high cultural and religious meaning and value, especially in Pariaman . Tabuik has the form of a sign and a sign and the meaning we can see from the form and symbol of Tabuik.

Abstract

This research is entitled "Linguistic Signs in the Meaning of Sikerei's Wife's Tattoos in Madobag Village, South Siberut, Mentawai Island. This research is limited to several main ideas related to the observation of the following two questions: What are the signs and markers of the meaning of the Sikerei wife's tattoo in Madobag, What are the provisions for marking the meaning of the Sikerei wife's tattoo in Madobag, The aim of this research is to find out the linguistic signs that used in the meaning of the Sikerei Wife tattoo. To explain the signs and markers in the meaning of the Sikerei Wife tattoo in Madobag. The theory used comes from Chandler and Barthes' semiotic theory which is used to answer the objectives of this research. For the data analysis method, the author uses qualitative research with the emphasis on inner meaning and understanding (verstehen), reasoning, definition of certain situations (in several contexts), studying things related to everyday life such as the culture of a region and also semiotic theory. Data collection techniques use literature study techniques to search for data that is relevant to the main analysis. This research is qualitative research using field notes, interviews, personal documents, and photos or drawings. The conclusion in this analysis is that the Sikerei Wife Tattoo for the Madobag community is part of the order of life based on Arat Sabulungan beliefs. This belief is a genuine religion and gives enthusiasm for life. Sikerei's wife's tattoo is one of the cultural heritages of the Mentawai people's ancestors. Sikerei's wife's tattoo pattern is a visual language as a means of communication to show the origin of existence, a sign of territorial ownership, and other symbols.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effect of using the Problem Based Learning model on the learning outcomes of writing observation report texts of class X students of SMK Negeri 10 Makassar. This research is a type of experimental research. The research design used was One Group Pretest-Postest Design. Data analysis techniques used in this research are descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results showed that the learning outcomes of writing observation report text before using the Problem Based Learning model were categorized as less capable with an average score of 66.94. The learning outcomes of writing observation report text after using the Problem Based Learning model were categorized as proficient with an average score of 84.33. There is an effect of Problem Based Learning model on the learning outcomes of writing observation report text of Class X students of SMK Negeri 10 Makassar.

Abstract

The title of this research is “The Struggle Of Hallucination As Seen In Beth Revis’ A World Without You”. This thesis focuses on personality, external conflict, and hallucinations experienced by Bo as in the novel A World Without You. This research uses descriptive qualitative as a method in this final assignment, because the data are in the form of words and sentences written in the novel and analyzed descriptively. The data was obtained by the researcher by reading and writing sentences intensively and collecting several references from several books and dictionaries related to the subject matter and searching for information from the internet to support the research. The results of this study show the personality that occurs in Bo's life as a human being who has different personalities. External conflict occurs because Bo interacts with the people around him. Bo's hallucinations towards this make him and his family treated differently and it is difficult to accept the fact that his lover is no longer there.

Abstract

This thesis focuses on the love struggle between Elizabeth and Darcy, the conflict between them is prejudice and pride. Prejudice is found in Elizabeth and pride is found in Darcy, this thesis uses Steinberg's triangular theory of love with three main components such as intimacy, passion, and commitment. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. To obtain by searching and collecting several books related to analyzing the struggle of love, sacrifice, and external conflict in a literary work. By quoting sentences or words that show the characteristics of love struggles and forms of sacrifice, as well as external conflicts and then transcribing them. This thesis focuses on Elizabeth and Darcy love struggle, the conflict between them is prejudice and pride. Prejudice is found in Elizabeth and pride is found in Darcy. The result of the research is that Elizabeth and Darcy's love struggle is caused by the conflict between them, and the conflict comes from their own personalities, how to deal with prejudice and arrogance, especially the difference in social status class, Darcy comes from a rich family and Elizabeth comes from a low social status class family. This became a tense conflict between Elizabeth and Darcy in their love journey. After the change of attitude between them, they had to face reality, because in the change of attitude, they realized that what they had done such as prejudice by Elizabeth and arrogance from Darci caused them to understand each other, they admitted their mistakes, apologized, accepted each other's opinions and forgave each other. This pushes them to go through conflicts that are very difficult to be united in their journey of love.
