Abstract

This research describes the use of implicatures. This study aims to see the message in Barack Obama's campaign speech. Furthermore, this study uses the implicature theory proposed by Grice and George Yule, the language function theory proposed by Geoffrey Leech and complemented by the ethnographic theory of communication by Dell Hymes. The data is taken from Barack Obama's utterances delivered in a campaign speech in Springfield, Illinois, USA on February 10, 2007. This research follows the research phase proposed by Sudaryanto. At the basic stage of the data, the writer used the listening method and the technique of listening to the free and speaking competently. At the analysis, the researcher used the pragmatic matching method. Based on the analysis, the researcher found forty-two implicatures contained in the thirty-eight teachings of Barack Obama in the campaign speech. In addition, each implicature has a different function and purpose.

Abstract

This research describe and explain the indicators of politeness among students of English Department in Dharma Andalas University. This research uses descriptive qualitative analysis. The data of this research are the speech between English Department students. Retrieval of data using the refer method. This method is followed by a free and interactive technique. Data was collected by taking recorded conversations between students of English Department at Dharma Andalas University. The results of the research data show 5 indicators that students apply in their utterances, they are: the use of word help, sorry, greeting, could, and thank you. The use of greeting is the most indicator that the students used in their utterances, followed by the use of word help, could, sorry and the last one is 4 data of indicator that uses of word thank you.

Abstract

The aim of this study to find out types and forms code mxing used in Deddy Corbuzier's YouTube Channel video " Kenapa Baru Kita Ceritakan… KRI Nanggala 402-Faiz Rahman". " In conducting the analysis, the results obtained with the research method used is a qualitative descriptive method. In collecting the data this research used heed method, this method followed by the simak bebas libat cakap technique and the analysis method used the Agih method and followed by Bagi Unsur Langsung technique. After doing the analysis, it was found that 51 data were found in the video. As a result, 51 data with the types of Outer Code-Mixing is dominant with a percentage of 100%, while in the inner no data is found. In the forms, there are 21 data on words, 17 data on phrases, 3 data on hybrids, 1 data on repetition words, 2 on idioms, and 11 data on clauses.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out types and maxim of politeness that occurred between health workers and the patient. In conducting this reseacrh, the results obtained with the research method used is a qualitative descriptive method. In collecting the data this research used observational method, this method followed by note taking technique and the analysis method used padan pragmatics method. The result of this research shown that the news sentences occupy the top position, followed by imperative sentences. Question sentences are occurred in the third position that are often used by health workers when communicating with the patinets at Solok Regional Hospital, West Sumatera.

Abstract

The strategy of politeness, and sentence structures are all described and explained in this research of Dharma Andalas University English Department students. Descriptive qualitative analysis is used in this study. A discourse between students studying English literature serves as the research's data source. Data retrieval through the refer technique. This is followed by an open-ended, participatory manner. Data were gathered by recording discussions between Andalas Dharma University English literature students. The study's findings indicate that students of English literature frequently employ sentences that are followed by a request sentence in their interactions with other students of the same subject.The study's findings indicate that students of English Department frequently employ sentences that are followed by a request sentence in their interactions with other students of the same subject. Positive politeness is the most commonly utilized kind. This suggests that the English literature students communicate with a high degree of civility. Positive politeness is most commonly utilized.
