Abstract

Children do not trade in their immature speech for mature speech all at once. They always go through a sequence of stages of language use, moving from simple to complex. they imitate the nouns and verbs and sentence structures of others around them; they can fit their own words into these imitated structures to create novel sentences. But the facts of children's speech do not fit this explanation either. Children produce many sorts of grammatical constructions that they have not heard before. A two- year-old says, "Allgone milk" and "Daddy bye-bye" and for a time, rarely utters sentences of more than two words. Keywords: language use, grammatical construction.

Abstract

Many students who did not confident with their speaking ability when they want to speak in front of the audience so Public speaking is a program that is suitable to improve their speaking ability. This study was aimed to know whether Genta’s program (Public Speech) all speakers did the errors on grammar at public speaking Genta English Course or not. The research described that are (a) what are errors on grammar at public speaking. (b) What are the causes of errors on grammar at public speaking? Especially about: analysis of errors on Grammar. This study is descriptive qualitative on analyzing errors. The subjects of this study were the students of Genta English Course in Gendong – Laren - Lamongan. The instruments used in this study were observation form, interview guide, and documentation. The data collected from observation and interview was analyzed based on analyzing, the researcher manages the series data and it involve identification, classifying, presenting and conclusion. The result of this study described that all the speakers did errors on grammar at public speech exactly at sentence and phrase because of the speakers less understand of the structure of grammar. In analyzing of errors on grammar at public speech here, the research gave contribution and show that the data, correct, and the solution. When the speakers did the errors on grammar at public speech, it happened in present tenses, part of speech, modal, degree of comparison and passive. And this result can be presented in present tense 28.6%, part of speech 53.6%, and modal 10.7%, degree of comparison 3.6% and passive 3.6%. it had discussed by the researcher. It was found value of analyzing this result then discussed on grammar at public speech so all speakers did not do the errors any more on grammar at public speech Genta English Course in Gendong.

Abstract

Language has functioned as a media communication. Language has a very important role as a means of communication; with language, human beings can express most of their thoughts, feelings, and knowledge to the others in their daily lives. Linguistics Description refers to the exploration and classification of linguistic features of a given text and the linguistic features. Besides, linguistics is a study of the language and the social aspect of society. The slogan is an imaging sign of company. It is a phrase that comes and goes with particular lines of products on all its adverts whatever the campaign. Motorcycle slogan is a memorable motto or phrase in creating product branding as a repetitive expression of an idea or purpose. This study is specified in the analysis of syntax and semantics on motorcycle slogan in Indonesia. This study had three problems statement, they were: what types of the slogan used in motorcycle slogans, what the syntax are used on motorcycle slogans and what the semantics are used on motorcycle slogans. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research design. The researcher took the motorcycle slogans as a source of data. The researcher only focuses on motorcycle slogans in Indonesia, especially Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki product. Based on this study, the researcher found 7 descriptive slogans, 15 superlative slogans, and 6 provocative slogans. The researcher could not find kind of imperative slogan. From the description above, the researcher concluded that most of the motorcycle slogan used superlative slogans. Most motorcycle slogans used superlative types. In syntax, the researcher found 22 phrases (21 noun phrases, 1 verb phrase), and 6 slogans were not phrases but sentences. So, noun phrase was found dominantly in the motorcycle slogans. In semantics, the researcher found 9 denotative meanings and 19 connotative meanings. So, connotative meanings were found dominantly in the motorcycle slogans. Based on the results of the study, it could be concluded that each motorcycle slogans had its own type and meaning. Motorcycle slogans used by companies to promote their motorcycle to the custom motorcycle products.

Abstract

This thesis journal is concerned on an analysis on Characterization of the Main Character of Ron Clark Story movie. This study is trying research the characterization of the main character as a good teacher of Ron Clark Story movie. In this study the researcher states this study intends to analyze, (1) how are the characterizations of the main character shown as a good teacher in the movie? (2) How is the main character described as a Good Teacher in The Ron Clark Story Movie by characterization technique? This study is intended to describe: (1) to describe how the characterization of the main character as a good teacher in the movie. (2) To describe how the main character as a good English teacher that described in the “Ron Clark Story” movie by characterization technique. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative design. This research is categorized as qualitative research because the researcher presents the data by describing the data based on the characterization of Ron Clark as the main character by the characterization technique. The result of this study shows that there are 2 data for inspiring, there is 1 data for self-confidence, there are 3 data for innovative, there is 1 data for caring, there are 2 data for helpful, there are 2 data for creative, there are 2 data for humorist, there are 2 data for responsible, there is 1 data for hard worker, and there is 1 data for discipline. So, it can be concluded that characterization of Ron Clark is the main character as a good teacher who innovative, caring, humorist, responsible, hard worker, discipline.

Abstract

Euphemism exists since there is an emergance of taboos and people nowadays are likely to avoid something harsh to say or mentioned. Further, the purpose of Euphemism in People’s communication is actually to maintain their social relation. Since Euphemism is very crucial in buildding up someone’s communication so that, it makes the researcher conducted this study of analysis Euphemism especially in Political field. Further, the aim of this research is to find out: (1) the types and functions of Euphemism appeared in Online Newspapers; Jakarta Post and Republika, (2) the most frequent of type and function of Euphemism have showen up in the selection section, Politics. Moreover, this research is qualitative-descriptive since the reasearcher analyzed the data interpretatively or based on the writers’ point of view. In addition, all the data explained descriptively by using some theories in describing the types and the functions of Euphemism. In categorizing the types, the researcher used theory from Allan and burridge who proposed 13 types of Euphemism and for explaining the function the researcher used Samoskaite theory who proposed 5 pragmatic functions of Euphemism. Moreover, the techniques in collecting the data the researcher followed 3 steps from Wray and Bloomer theory; choosing the media, transcripping the section and taking a note for the object (Euphemism). The last for analyzing the data there are 3 steps taken from Miles and Huberman theory; reducing data, displaying data, drawing and veryfying conclusions. In two weeks of the observation, the researcher found 9 Euphemism from 23 articles selected and 9 of them are categorized into 5 from 13 types Euphemism, they are; Figurative (Idiom and Irony), Circumlocution, Omission (Synecdoche), Understatement and Borrowing type. Further, the function of Euphemisms found in the Political section is categorized into Politeness function, Taboo function, and Tactical function. Finally, the researcher took a conclusion on the most frequent of type and function of Euphemism found in Online Newspapers; Jakarta Post and Republika in Political section published in April 10th to 23rd, 2019,and they are Idiom in figurative type and Taboo function.

Abstract

Abstrak : Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui tingkat keterbacaan teks bacaan dalam “Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris untuk SMA/MA XI” yang diterbitkan oleh Mediatama dengan menggunakan tes cloze pada siswa kelas sebelas SMAN 1 Sekaran tahun ajaran 2021/2022. Tes terdiri dari enam teks bacaan sebagai sampel dari populasi 47 teks bacaan dalam buku teks. Tes cloze diberikan kepada 45 siswa sebagai sampel dari populasi 216 siswa kelas XI dengan menggunakan teknik purposive clusters sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dan didukung dengan metode penelitian kepustakaan. Prosedur dilakukan dengan membagikan tes cloze kepada siswa, mengumpulkan data, menghitung data, menganalisis data, menafsirkan data dan yang terakhir menyimpulkan hasil belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teks 1 sampai 4 mendapat nilai rata-rata kurang dari 53%. Masing-masing skor adalah 51,99%, 48,96%, 52,36% dan 51,10%. teks bacaan tersebut termasuk dalam tingkat Instruksional; Artinya siswa belum dapat memahami teks secara mandiri, mereka masih membutuhkan bimbingan dari guru dan teks-teks tersebut diperkirakan sesuai dengan kesulitan. Sedangkan teks 5 dan 6 mendapat nilai rata-rata di atas 53%. Skor tersebut adalah 63,39% dan 61,89%. teks bacaan tersebut termasuk tingkat Mandiri; artinya siswa dapat memahaminya sendiri dan teks diprediksi cukup mudah. Dari hasil temuan, penulis mendapatkan nilai rata-rata dari 6 teks bacaan adalah 54,95%. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa teks bacaan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Sastra Inggris untuk SMA/MA XI semakin mendekati tingkat Instruksional. Artinya siswa cukup mudah memahami tetapi masih membutuhkan petunjuk atau bimbingan dari guru. Sehingga layak digunakan oleh kelas dan guru SMAN 1 Sekaran sebagai instrumen belajar mengajar.

Abstract

Linguistics is the scientific study of natural language and is one of the four subfield of anthropology. Linguistics encompasses a number of sub-fields. An important topical division is between the study of language structure (grammar) and the study of meaning ( semantics and pragmatics). Grammar encompasses morphology (the formation and composition of words ), syntax (the rules that determine how words combine into phrase and sentences) and phonology (the study of sound systems and abstract sound units). Part of linguistics are syntax, morphology, phonology, sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic.

Abstract

Human beings are social creatures. They need a language for communication. A human being who came from different country has different language for communication. Although the languages are different, those have some similarities. The similarities of languages make the students easy to learn the languages as second or foreign languages. However, the differences of languages cause students face some difficulties to learn other languages. This research has analyzed some differences of interrogative sentences in English and Indonesian language in order to contribute positively in language learning and teaching. This research uses a method to know the differences between two languages. The method is contrastive analysis. Contrastive Analysis is a method of language analysis that popular in linguistic study in middle of 20th century. This method is used to contrast between two languages that have differences. Through this method, linguists or language learners find the differences which make them find the difficulties of languages which make them find the conveniences in learning. Interrogative sentences that have been analyzed in this research are sentences have essential roles in communications and learning language process too. Through this sentence, questioners obtain some information from respondent and teachers also invite the students’ idea. Before analyze the differences between two languages, this research presents the data presentation that explains the kinds of interrogative sentences in English and Indonesian language clearly. Then, researcher contrast two languages to find out differences of them. The differences between two languages are found, such as in placing of question words, the use of “who”, the form of interrogative sentences, tag questions. Based on this analysis can be known that interrogative sentences in English and Indonesian language have brief differences. The research findings have been found based on the structure and the uses of sentences.

Abstract

Language is the main customs of communication for human being life. Anacusis is total loss or absence of the ability to perceive sound as such. It also known as deafness. Because of brain plasticity changes during early childhood, children who have not acquired a first language in the early years might never be completely fluent in any language. An alternative to speech-exclusive approaches to language acquisition for deaf children exists in the use of sign languages such as Sistem Isyarat Bahasa Indonesia (SIBI), where acquiring a sign language is subject to the same time constraints of spoken language development. This study is intended to find out the answer to the following questions : (1) Which are educational method and communication method used in learning English for Anacusis learners, (2) How well do Anacusis learners acquire English as a foreign language, (3) What problems do Anacusis learners face in learning English. A descriptive qualitative research design was used in this study. The data of this study were observation result. The source of data in this study was drawn by using simple stratification sampling technique. The number of data used as discussion material of this study was 3 data. Documentary or content analysis was used to collect the data. The data were collected from interview result, observation checklist and test result by identifying the contents. The data are analyzed by describe the result of collected data, and then compare the finding with certain statement from some scientist and recently researchers. The result of the study showed that Anacusis learners able to acquire English as a foreign language although need a little harder effort compared with non hearing impairment learners. It cause the lack of their ability to arrange a right structure of sentence. Based upon the findings and conclusions, (1) The English teachers suggested to pay attention to the students’ condition when the teaching and learning process is being done, (2) The students should keep intention in learning English, and (3) The next researcher suggested to do research more complete about language acquisition and find the simple way to learn more vocabularies and hopefully makes the students can make a sentence in simple form or answer the short question in English fluently.
