Abstract

Language and culture are two things that are interrelated in human life, especially in learning and langage teaching. The objective of this study is to dercribe the understanding of culture in learning English. This research belongs to qualitative research which applies libraries research to collect the data. The introduction of this culture is especially recommended for foreign language learning which places more emphasis on developing communication skills with the target language. The introduction of culture in learning English process can reduce the potential for misunderstandings to occur during the communication process.

Abstract

Good preparation is essential for English event hosts to perform effectively. At a minimum, they should be able to read texts in English with confidence. Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an (TPA) "Nurul Yaqin" frequently organizes events to commemorate Islamic holidays. To further motivate students to engage more actively in their Qur'an studies, innovative activities are needed as part of these commemorations. Training students to become English Masters of Ceremony (MCs) can serve as a creative and motivational approach. This community service program aimed to train TPA students to host events in English. The program was conducted in-person and actively involved the students. The results showed a significant positive impact, as the students enjoyed the activity and demonstrated increased enthusiasm in participating.

Abstract

Corona virus disease has various impacts to the people’s activities. Many countries were not allowed their citizens to go from their places. Their works were done from their homes using online facilities. The schools were closed and the teaching and learning process were conducted through online. These were all done to stop the corona virus disease spreading. Online learning instead of offline learning faced controversy among the people especially parents. The objectives of the current research were to investigate (1) the forms of controversy on online learning, (2) factors that affect the controversy, and (3) implications towards the implementation of teaching and learning process. The current research used qualitative approach. There were 24 participants who joined in the current research. The data were collected through questionnaires. The results of the current research were (1) the respondents agree and disagree with the use of online learning, (2) they said that online learning made them easy and some of them said that online learning was problem, (3) the implication of the online learning was that the parents felt frustrated to face online learning and some of them had no problem. Online learning had advantages and disadvantages. Further research should conduct the research using more participants to make the research more comprehensive.

Abstract

English, a foreign language used as an everyday conversation in the Islamic boarding school, has created new language conflict in the brain. This article explores the language conflicts experienced by students when producing English. The data of this article taken from in-depth interviews with thirty senior Islamic high school students. This research shows that language competition in the brain has created language conflict. This article’s main limitation is that it relies solely on students' perspectives from the lower motivation and does not consider the whole level of the students. Further research, thus, should use a more comprehensive approach that integrates a view of the entire students’ level, thereby enabling it to formulate a more comprehensive solution.
