Abstract

Abstract

One of the heavy metals contained in the textile industry wastewater is chromium (Cr). Chromium hexavalent ions (Cr6+) are highly toxic and its accumulation in the human body will cause various negative impacts. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of silica synthesized by the sol-gel method to gain homogeneity and high purity. Synthesized silica was calcined at 700°C for 4 hours and its performance to adsorb Cr(VI) ions  in textile wastewater was investigated. The presence of -OH group from silanol (–Si-OH) was appeared at wavenumber 3367.70 cm-1, meanwhile siloxane functional groups were recorded at 1056.99 cm-1 and 784.38 cm-1 due to the O-Si-O asymmetric stretching and Si-O bending vibration. Optimum conditions of silica to adsorb Cr(VI) ions took place at pH 2 and contact time of 90 minutes by adsorption efficiency of 75,65% and followed the Freundlich isotherm.

Abstract

Islamic studies with an astronomical approach are interesting and important, because the history of the development of Muslims in religious practice cannot be separated from the astronomical field as well as advanced technology and also science. This journal aims to reveal three things are: first, the understanding of the astronomical approach second, methods, techniques, and research steps in the astronomical approach third, the implementation of the astronomical approach in Islamic studies. The method used is a literature study by digging from primary and secondary books as well as national and international scientific journals. The results of this study indicate are: first, etymologically astronomy comes from the Greek, namely Astron (ἄστρον, “star”) and Nomos (νόμος law/culture). According to the term is the science of calculation or almanac determination, the physical and chemical properties of objects that can be seen in the sky and beyond the earth. Second, the research method used in the astronomical approach is literature study and observation. Third, among the implementations, namely the application of determining Islamic dates, the application of the cardinal directions in determining the Qibla direction, application in weather prediction, as well as the sun, stars, moon in predicting sunny weather, rain or eclipses.

Abstract

Abstract. Conventional plastics made from petroleum polymers were the largest contributor to solid waste on earth. Environmentally friendly bioplastic fabricated by compositing starch and natural fibers were proposed to be a solution to this problem. The purpose of this research was to synthesize bioplastic from water hyacinth fiber composite with cassava starch and test its mechanical properties. Bioplastic fabrication was using melt intercalation method using water hyacinth fibers (WHF) with and without alkali treatment mixed with cassava starch (CS) and glycerol as plasticizer. The resulting bioplastic were characterized with FT-IR and tested for mechanical properties. The mechanical test results showed that water hyacinth fiber alkaline treated/cassava starch (WHF-AT/CS) bioplastic has tensile strength, % elongation, and water absorption values of 1.226 MPa, 3.33%, and 10.26%, respectively. While the bioplastic water hyacinth fiber untreated/cassava starch (WHF-UT/CS) has a tensile strength test value, % elongation, and water absorption of 0.306 MPa, 1.67%, and 11.39, respectively.  Therefore it can be said that WHF-AT/CS bioplastic has better mechanical properties when compared to WHF-UT/CS bioplastic. Keywords:Biocomposite, Bioplastic, Cassava Starch, Water Hyacinth Fiber

Abstract

Those who practice Islam are obliged to pay zakat, which is a kind of zakat that must be distributed according to Islamic law,to thosewhoareable toreceive it.One of the pillars of Islam that is used to improve social welfare and welfare is zakat. Zakat is a means that Muslims hope to alleviate material and spiritual poverty, foster social solidarity, and provide for the general public.Various sources indicate that zakat is not only a religious obligation but also an effective instrument in providing food and alleviating social suffering.
