Abstract

This study aimed to know how is the profile of students’ English linguistic intelligence of rhetoric at SMP Islam De Green Camp Tanjungpinang. The subject in this research is the eighth grade that consisted of 21 female students. This study is based on Gardner’s theory (1998). A research design in this research is descriptive qualitative research with analysis technique. The setting of place in this research is at SMP Islam De Green Camp Tanjungpinang. The instruments in collecting the data are interviews and speaking tests. Based on the instruments, the researcher assesses students’ answers by a rubric that consisted of grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The result shows that the total score is 61.9 and from the criteria of the rhetoric on speaking, the students’ English linguistic intelligence of rhetoric at SMP Islam De Green Camp Tanjungpinang is good.

Abstract

Sosialisasi Penggunaan Media Sosial dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan penguasaan bahasa Inggris bagi siswa. Materi sosialisasi yang diberikan mencakup skil-skil dasar yang sangat berguna untuk menunjang kemampuan berkomunikasi baik lisan maupun tertulis. Dalam realisasi kegiatan Program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) di SMKN 3 Tanjungpinang dilakukan dengan melalui 3 tahapan, antara lain : tahap 1 (diskusi), tahap 2 (tutorial) dan tahap 3 (observasi dan evaluasi). Pemanfaatan internet sebagai media pendidikan di sekolah dapat menunjang proses belajar mengajar bahasa Inggris. Penggunaan internet dapat mendorong siswa lebih aktif belajar sehingga prestasi belajarnya meningkat. Meskipun internet dapat membantu guru dan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran, tetapi ada beberapa kelemahan yang harus diatasi oleh guru sebagai pendidik di sekolah dan sebagai praktisi media internet. Tugas guru tidak hanya menggunakan keunggulan internet saja, tetapi juga perlu memikirkan cara-cara untuk mengurangi kelemahan tersebut.

Abstract

This study aimed to know the effect of comic strips towards students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade students of a Senior High School in Tanjungpinang. The research design in this study was quantitative approach namely pre-experimental research. The participants of this study were a class of tenth grade students in the academic year of 2021/2022. The instruments for collecting the data were reading comprehension test given as pre-test and post-test. The test consisted of 20 questions and the format was multiple choice. The questions made by the researcher according to strategies for reading comprehension and validated by the lecturer and teacher at the target school. The test is given to other class which was similar level to the target class in the same school before given to the experimental class as post-test and pre-test to get the reliability of the test. The results of data analysis revealed that the effect of comic strips towards students’ reading comprehension for tenth grade students was very good. It improved significantly the students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe how the skimming and scanning techniques could improve the students’ reading comprehension at the IX-F grade students of SMP Negeri 16 Tanjungpinang in the academic year 2021/2022. The subject of this study consisted of 20 female students and 16 male students. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR). The kinds of data analyzed using qualitative and quantitative analysis. The quantitative data were from preliminary study, reading comprehension test I, and reading comprehension test II. Meanwhile, the qualitative data were obtained from the observation sheet. The quantitative data of the preliminary study showed that there were 6 of 36 students (17%) got score ?70. In test cycle I, the number of students who got score ?70 was 22 of 36 students (61%). In test cycle II, the students who got score ?70 were 28 of 36 students (77%). Based on the quantitative data, the improvement of students’ reading comprehension achieved the criteria success of this study. Furthermore, the qualitative data from the observation sheet showed that the skimming and scanning techniques improved the students’ participation and enthusiasm. So, it could be concluded that the skimming and scanning techniques improved students’ reading comprehension of Narrative text at the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 16 Tanjungpinang

Abstract

This research was conducted with the objective of creating learning media for teaching writing skills to tenth-grade students at SMAN 5 Batam. The main focus was on designing a storyboard learning media that would enhance student’s motivation to learn writing, making the learning process more engaging and encouraging active participation, especially in writing recount texts. The researcher concentrated on the topic of recount texts for tenth-grade students. The research and development (R&D) approach was employed, utilizing the ADD model by Dick & Carry, which consisted of three stages: analyzing, designing, and development. Data were gathered through interviews and validation sheets. The storyboard teaching materials successfully met the validity criteria, with material validation scoring 82,2% and media validation scoring 80%. Consequently, the storyboard-based teaching materials were deemed suitable for implementation in the classroom to enhance students learning.
