Abstract

The study was conducted in Madrasah Tsanawiah (MTs) Totolisi Sendana Majene Distric, West Sulawesi Province, this school was chosen purposively based on several considerations, namely: 1) the lack of number of English teachers, 2) the minimum number of learners is proportional to their interest in learning English, 3) the methods used by educators are less creative and innovative. Based on the issues raised in this study, the research entitled "The Effect of TPR (Total Physical Response) Method on Improving Learning Outcomes through Story Telling Activity English" is a method of Quasi Experimental Design research which in this study using a model that is two groups pretest-posttest design. The research design used in this study is a research model conducted by involving a comparison group ". Thus the treatment results can be known more accurately, because it can compare with the situation before being treated and compare methods applied by the English teacher. Based on the descriptions, it can be concluded that There is an influence between the learning value of English learners at the time before and after the implementation of TPR method of Total Physical Response) through story telling activity to students of Madrasah Tsanawiah (MTs) Totolisi Sendana Majene district. There is an increase in the average value in the experimental group that has the average value of pre-test of 47.26 after being given treatment in the form of application of TPR method (Total Physical Response) through the activity of storytelling, the result of the value of English increases with the average value post-test of 68.44. While in the control group did not increase with the value in pre-test 44.62 while post-test 56.52.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how students' perceptions of learning English use google classroom media during the Covid-19 pandemic and to find out what are the inhibiting factors experienced by students d[1]uring the learning process of English using Google Classroom media.This type of research uses a qualitative approach, in data collection techniques the researcher uses the methods of observation, interviews, and documentation.Informants in this study were students of class XI. 1 TKJ and English teacher at SMK YPPP WONOMULYO.Based on the results of observations the conditions of the implementation of English language learning in the Pandemic Covid-19 are very different when the learning process carried out face-to-face where the teacher's English learning process no longer explains the material directly but the teacher uses the Google Classroom media as a forum to carry out the learning process for students then the interview process was carried out by researchers through Google Form.The results of the study stated that the majority of class XI students. 1 TKJ SMK YPPP WONOMULYO has a negative perception of online learning English. This is in accordance with the answers of students who said they preferred face-to-face learning because it was easier to understand and learning through Google Classroom experienced many obstacles, for example network connections were often bad or constrained by internet quotas. Then the students said the learning outcomes were unsatisfactory and less understood and unattractive. Then the inhibiting factors experienced by students are unstable networks, sometimes Google Classroom errors, inadequate quotas and lack of understanding of the material presented and lack of socializing with teachers and students.

Abstract

This research was an attempt to find evidence of the influence of the Pair Work Technique on speaking ability. It was conducted at SMPN 2 Sa’dan with a total of 34 students. This study was carried out by Speaking test and Questionnaire in the classroom. It was conducted in 6 meetings. To determine whether the Pair Work Technique for the teaching of speaking was effective, a speaking test was given at the Experimental group in IX-A class to know the students’ speaking ability. The percentage of the students’ speaking ability in Pre-test, namely; 1) 0% students were got excellent, good, and fair category, 2) the percentage of the poor category was 10% (there are 2 students), 3) the percentage of the very poor category was 90% (there are 18 students). And the percentage of the students’ speaking ability in Post-test, namely: 1) the percentage of the excellent category was 0%, but 2) the percentage of the good category was 10% (there are 2 students), 3) the percentage of the fair category was 85% (there are 17 students), 4) the percentage of the poor category was 5% (just 1 student), 5) the percentage of the very poor category was 0%. While to determine whether the Pair Work Technique for the teaching of speaking was effective, a questionnaire was given in the Experimental group to know the students’ motivation. The percentage of the students’ motivation it was found that: 1) the percentage of the strongly motivated classification was 15% (there are 3 students) 2) the percentage of the motivated classification was 75% (there are 15 students) 3) the percentage of the fairly motivated classification was 10% (there are 2 students). It can be concluded that the Pair Work Technique was effective to improve the students’ speaking ability and students’ motivation for the 9th-grade students of SMPN 2 Sa’dan North Toraja in the academic year 2020/2021.
