Abstract

This study describes halal-certified food for tourists visiting tourist destinations where the population is a Muslim minority. The research method used is qualitative by using interview instruments on several research informants, namely the Regional Government, the Indonesian Ulema Council, LPPOM MUI, and food stall entrepreneurs. The results of this study conclude that there are very few halal-certified food stalls. This is due to the understanding of the public who do not really understand the importance of halal certification and are constrained by the financing. Therefore, the role of the government in this case the Department of Culture and Tourism, the Indonesian Ulema Council, LPPOM MUI, and food stall entrepreneurs need to work together in providing halal food which is one of the attractions for Muslim tourists to visit North Toraja Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of zakat and several macroeconomic variables on poverty and welfare levels as measured by the Human Development Index (HDI) in provinces in Indonesia. This study employs a descriptive quantitative approach using secondary panel data from 34 provinces in Indonesia over a ten-year period (2014–2023). A simultaneous equation model is applied to capture the reciprocal relationship between poverty and welfare (HDI). The variables analyzed include zakat, economic growth, inflation, investment, and labor. The results show that zakat, economic growth, inflation, investment, labor, and HDI simultaneously have a significant effect on poverty across Indonesian provinces. Meanwhile, zakat, economic growth, investment, labor, and poverty significantly influence the HDI. Partially, zakat, investment, labor, and HDI have a significant negative effect on poverty, indicating their role in reducing poverty levels. In contrast, zakat, economic growth, investment, and labor have a significant positive effect on HDI, suggesting their contribution to improving welfare. Inflation has a significant negative effect on poverty, while poverty has a negative but statistically insignificant effect on HDI. This study is limited to provincial-level secondary data and selected macroeconomic variables over a ten-year period. Future research may include additional socioeconomic variables or extend the observation period. This study provides empirical evidence on the role of zakat as an Islamic social finance instrument in reducing poverty and improving social welfare in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the differences and compare the average financial performance between Islamic Commercial Banks and Conventional Banks using six financial ratios: Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) as a proxy for capital, Non-Performing Loan (NPL) for asset quality, Return on Assets (ROA) for profitability, Return on Equity (ROE) for profitability from equity, Operational Efficiency Ratio (BOPO), and Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR) for liquidity. This research employs a quantitative descriptive approach using secondary data derived from financial statements of banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The analysis technique applied is the Independent Sample T-test to examine the differences in the average financial performance between Islamic and conventional banks. The results indicate that there are significant differences in the average financial performance between Islamic and conventional banks in terms of CAR, NPL, and BOPO. However, no significant differences are found in ROA, ROE, and LDR. Based on mean values, Islamic banks demonstrate better performance in CAR and ROA, while conventional banks outperform in NPL, ROE, BOPO, and LDR. Overall, conventional banks show superior financial performance compared to Islamic banks, which is attributed to their longer operational experience and more established market presence. This study contributes to the comparative financial performance literature by providing empirical evidence on the relative strengths and weaknesses of Islamic and conventional banking systems in Indonesia using multiple financial indicators. It offers valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and academics in evaluating the competitiveness and development of the Islamic banking sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development strategy of Tamborasi River halal tourism, examine its impact on the microeconomic conditions and welfare of local communities in Tamborasi Village, and explore the tourism development strategy from an Islamic perspective. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis to identify tourism development strategies, economic impacts, and the implementation of Islamic values in tourism management. The research results show that Tamborasi River tourism has significant potential for further development due to its unique appeal as the world's shortest river, supported by adequate infrastructure and effective promotional strategies. Tamborasi River tourism development offers promising potential for businesses, with revenues that can continue to grow along with increasing visitor numbers. From an Islamic perspective, the tourism development strategy emphasizes the provision of worship facilities, halal food services, environmental cleanliness, and quality services based on sharia principles. The findings imply that the development of Tamborasi River halal tourism can serve as a strategic instrument for strengthening local economic activities through the empowerment of MSMEs, job creation, and community participation. The study also highlights the importance of improving Muslim-friendly tourism facilities, strengthening halal certification support for local businesses, and enhancing collaboration among local governments, tourism managers, and community stakeholders to ensure sustainable and inclusive halal tourism development. This study contributes to the literature on halal tourism development by integrating microeconomic community impacts with Islamic tourism principles in the context of a unique coastal tourism destination. The research also provides practical insights for policymakers and tourism managers in developing sustainable and community-based halal tourism destinations.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the factors influencing awareness, attitudes, and intention to consume halal food and beverage products through online ordering applications, particularly among Muslim millennials in Kendari City. This research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 96 Muslim millennial respondents in Kendari City, selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique to assess the relationships among religiosity, product knowledge, awareness, attitude, and intention. The results indicate that awareness and attitude have a significant positive effect on the intention to consume halal products online. Religiosity and product knowledge do not directly influence intention. However, both religiosity and product knowledge significantly affect awareness. Furthermore, religiosity and awareness significantly influence attitudes, while product knowledge does not show a significant effect on attitudes. The findings suggest that halal certification authorities, online food ordering platforms, and halal food vendors should strengthen consumer awareness by improving the visibility of halal certification, providing transparent product information, and promoting halal literacy through digital channels. Enhancing consumers’ awareness and attitudes toward halal products may increase their intention to purchase halal food and beverages online. However, the study is limited by its relatively small sample size of 96 respondents and its focus on Muslim millennials in Kendari City, which may limit the generalizability of the findings to other populations and geographical contexts. This study provides empirical insights into the behavioral determinants of halal consumption in the context of digital platforms, highlighting the mediating roles of awareness and attitude. It contributes to the growing literature on halal consumer behavior by focusing on Muslim millennials and the use of online food ordering applications, particularly in a regional Indonesian context.
