Abstract

Due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the Pandemic Era shifted face-to-face learning to online distance learning, which faced many challenges. One of the challenges is the decreasing level of student motivation and interactivity. LMS to organize learning materials, assignments, and other learning activities is an alternative that facilitates the learning process during the pandemic. Through LMS, lecturers can share materials, give assignments, and provide feedback to students through an integrated online system. This research aims to examine the effectiveness of using LMS Canvas at Sampoerna University, especially pedagogic quality during the pandemic. In this study, researchers used a questionnaire adapted from the LMS Evaluation model by Mtebe & Raisamo (2014) by adding pedagogical quality, including teaching quality, interactivity quality, and student understanding quality. The results of the study state that these three components have a positive effect on user satisfaction and the use of LMS.

Abstract

Language plays a fundamental role in the teaching and learning of mathematics. Students rely on their literacy skills to comprehend problem-solving situations before applying their mathematical knowledge. Unfortunately, there have been numerous reports of illiteracy, particularly in the area of communication, which is one of the most important skills in mathematical literacy. The students' lack of experience connecting formal mathematical language with their everyday language is one factor contributing to their communication illiteracy. To address this issue, the current study uses Desmos Polygraph as a tool to promote mathematical literacy by encouraging a thorough understanding of formal language. Desmos Polygraph's effective use encourages students to use formal language and understand the relationship between formal and informal language. This study, on the other hand, is solely concerned with analyzing the language used in the activity. Further research could assess the student-teacher interaction during the Desmos Polygraph activity to determine other potential in enhancing mathematical literacy.

Abstract

Geometry plays a pivotal role in mathematics education, contributing significantly to the development of students' spatial awareness, intuition, and visualization skills. Despite its importance, there are reported challenges in students' understanding of geometry, with the Merdeka curriculum geometry standard noted for not adequately emphasizing the fundamental understanding of triangle properties before introducing congruence. Conversely, studies have highlighted the effectiveness of incorporating NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) standards in fostering mathematical comprehension in this domain. This research study delves into the performance of eighth-grade students in comprehending triangle concepts, guided by the NCTM geometry standard. Employing a content analysis technique on student work, created based on NCTM indicators and assessed accordingly, the study reveals deficiencies in students' understanding. These challenges include difficulties in describing and categorizing triangles, identifying angle relationships, constructing logical arguments using both inductive and deductive reasoning, and recognizing relationships between side lengths. These findings underscore the urgent need to address these knowledge gaps and bridge the disparity between NCTM standards and students' current comprehension levels regarding triangle concepts.

Abstract

Implementing Distance Learning (PJJ) caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia has triggered a shift in education from traditional to digital on various fronts, including practicum. The virtual laboratory can be an alternative to practical learning. It still has several areas for improvement, such as the unavailability of direct feedback. It is not optimal for improving higher-order thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Inquiry Intelligent Tutoring System (Inq-ITS) in improving Biology learning outcomes. This research is quantitative and uses quasi-experimental techniques. This research will be applied to students of the Faculty of Engineering, Sampoerna University. Quasi-experimental research methods were used to answer research questions. Data collection techniques use several instruments: pretest, posttest, and practicum results reports. Data analysis using N-gain. From the results of calculating the product's effectiveness, an N-gain of 0.76 is obtained. Therefore, Inq-ITS is very effective in improving Biology learning outcomes. This research is still limited to the Inq-ITS application. It is necessary to carry out further research on ITS by measuring using other applications. This research implies that students are better able to solve HOTs questions and make better practicum reports.
