Abstract

Whiteflybecomes very critical pest because it become an important vector for Gemini virus. Many regions in West Java, Central Java,Yogyakarta, South Sumatera, and Lampung became endemic of leafroll yellow virus caused by Gemini virus in the recent year withdisease intensity from 20 till 100%. Objective of this research was to obtain potential and effective predators to control B. tabacifrom West Java, Central Java, and Yogyakarta. Study of Coccinellidae potency as natural enemy to control B. tabaci have beendone through three stages started from predator exploration, predation, and preference test. Predators exploration was done in chilipepper production centre area in three province, namely West Java (Cirebon and Garut Districts), Central Java (Brebes and MagelangDistrict), and Yogyakarta (Bantul and Sleman District). Those areas were choosen as exploration area because beside as chili peppersproduction centre areas, they were also indicated as Gemini virus endemic area. Predator exploration was done by collecting insectsthat were indicated as predator (based on literature study). Predators that found in this exploration then be identified and tested fortheir effectiveness as natural enemies (predation and preference test). From the exploration and identification, there were found11 species of predator, nine of eleven predator were member of Coleoptera (eight of them were member of family Coccinellidae, namely Menochilus sexmaculatus, Coccinella transversalis, Verania lineata, Illeis sp., Curinus coeruleus, Delphastus sp., Harmoniasp., Menochilus sp., and one of them was include in family of Staphylinidae Paederus fuscipes. We also find one species fromordo Hemiptera, i.e. member of Miridae family: Compylomma sp., one species from ordo Neuroptera, family Hemerobiidae, andone species from ordo Diptera (Condylostylus sp). Based on distribution, severity and effectiveness test, it could be concluded thatpredator species which have the highest potency as natural agent for controlling B. tabaci were V. lineata, M. sexmaculatus, and C.transversalis (Coleoptera : Coccinellidae). The use of B. tabaci high potential predators can be tested and applied in higher scale. The use of B. tabaci high potential predators can be tested and applied in higher scale.

Abstract

There are several problems of potato seed in the production center of Kerinci. The purpose of the study was to develop strategies for developing potato seed farming at the production center of Kerinci. The primary data gained from the Focussed Group Discussion (FGD) to formulate internal and external factors in the development of potato seed farming. FGD’s participants were expert respondents stakeholders in potato farming in Kerinci. The analysis technique uses SWOT analysis and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The results showed that there were four internal factors of strength such as of agroecological conditions, the existence of Potato Seedling Hall, the presence of breeders, and the development of processing industries. While three internal weaknesses were non-strategic locations, the dependent on seeds from outside the area, and limited seed supervisors. External factors of opportunity were preferred superior varieties, opportunities to be seed suppliers, and investment, as well as three threat external factors such as faked labeled seed, continuity of supply is not guaranteed, and the government is not paying enough attention to potato agribusiness. From these factors, eight alternative strategies were formulated. The results of AHP followed by sensitivity analysis indicate that the alternative policy that must be taken is strengthening the breeder to produce certified seeds and produce massively certified seeds at affordable prices.

Abstract

Peningkatan produktivitas cabai terjadi karena adanya perbaikan dalam komponen hasil seperti jumlah bunga, jumlah buah, panjang, dan bobot buah serta adanya penekanan terhadap serangan hama dan penyakit seperti trips, antraknosa, lalat buah, dan penggerek buah sebesar 18,10% sampai 23,93%.KeywordsCapsicum annuum; Unsur hara makro; Pupuk hayati; Produktivitas; Organisme pengganggu tumbuhanAbstractThe use of biofertilizer and macro and micro nutrients enhanced the growth and development, yield quality of vegetable crops as well as nutrient status of soil to a greater extent and to increased on pests and diseases resistance. Organic sources of nutrients including biofertilizers also economize the use of chemical fertilizers. The objectives of this study were to determine the best combination of Mg, B, and biofertilizer that increase the growth and yield of chili pepper and the impact to pest and diseases on chili pepper. The field experiment was conducted at the experimental field of the Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute, Lembang, West Java from June 2018 to February 2019. The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Block Design with eight treatments and four replicated. The treatments were Mg, B, and their combinations with biofertilizer compared to the conventional technologies as a control. The observations were carried out on the growth parameters (plant height and leaf canopy), yield components, pest and diseases of chili pepper. The results showed that the combinations of Mg, B, and biofertilizer increased the yield of chili up to 21.68 ton/ha or positive interaction beside beneficial agent with Mg, B, and biofertilizer package on 54.53%. Increased productivity of chili occurs because of improvements in yield components such as the number of flowers, number of fruits, fruit length and fruit weight and reduction of pest and disease attacks such as thrips, anthracnose, fruit flies and, fruit borers by 18.10% to 23.93%.

Abstract

Pollinating insects act as agents for transferring pollen to the pistil that leads to the increase of quality seed production. Since carrot is propagation through seed, insect pollination are important in the reproduction of the crop. The purpose of this study was to observe the diversity and activity of pollinating insects on carrot flowers in the Experimental Garden of the Agricultural Technology Research and Assessment Installation (IP2TP) Berastagi. Scan sampling method was applied to record the pollinator diversity, while the foraging behaviour of the insects was observed using focal sampling. The number of insects were recorded, collected and preserved in ethanol 70%. Insect identification guideline book was used to identify the insects by comparing their morphology and physiology.  The results showed that there were 8 insect species visiting the carrot flowers: Apis mellifera Linnaeus, Polyrachis sp., Coccinella sp., Rhagonycha sp., Muscidae sp., Chrysomya sp., Nephrotoma sp. and Tabanus sp. A. mellifera was found to have the highest intensity visiting the carrot flowers (21.6 ± 10.06)% while the lowest was demonstrated by Polyrachis sp. (12.6 ± 4.12)%. Also, A. mellifera was recorded to be the most active insect (11.84 ± 1.46 seconds/flower) with the number of flowers visited was 5,06 ± 1,46 flowers/minute. Polyrachis sp. has been revealed to have the longest stay on the flowers visited (49.24 ± 3.89 seconds/flower) with the number of flowers visited 1.21 ± 3.90 flowers/minute. The diversity of pollinating insect was found to be in intermediate level (H’ = 1.89).
