Abstract

The Relationship Between HbA1c Level and Sleep Quality in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes MellitusABSTRACTPoor sleep quality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) will have an impact on their quality of life. Poor sleep quality is caused by complications of diabetes mellitus that is caused by poor glycemic control. HbA1c level describes the patient’s glycemic control in the last three months. Objective: This study aims to identify the relationship between HbA1c level and sleep quality in patients with T2DM. Methods: The study was using a cross sectional approach, 110 patients with T2DM at the Endocrine Polyclinic of Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Referal Hospital Jakarta were recruited by consecutive sampling technique. HbA1c level was taken from the results of HbA1c examination of respondents in the last three months and sleep quality was measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The gathered data were analyzed using descriptive and chi-square test. Results: The results of this study indicated that there was a significant correlation between HbA1c level and the sleep quality of respondents (p=0,000). The respondents with HbA1c level in the diabetes category have a 45 times greater chance of experiencing poor sleep quality compared to respondents with levels HbA1c in the normal category. Discussion: Poor blood glycemic control can cause patients to suffer from diabetic neuropathy, which causes pain or uncomfortable sensation in the legs, and osmotic diuresis, which can cause nocturia. It can reduce the sleep quality of diabetes patients. Conclusion: This study recommends the nurses to provid education and encourage patients with T2DM to maintain their glycemic control to promote healthy sleep among diabetic. Keywords: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, HbA1c level, sleep quality, pittsburgh sleep quality index.

Abstract

Adolescent girls aged 15-24 are at risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS. The existence of adolescent promiscuity, inadequate knowledge of adolescents about HIV/AIDS, and lack of communication with parents on adolescent reproductive health are some related factors to the increased number of adolescents infected with sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS. Based on these situations, providing health education to adolescents is an alternative solution. The activities were carried out by implementing health education for teenage girls, conducted in four sessions. All sessions were held online, with interactive discussion methods, role play and demonstrations. A total of 18 adolescent girls participated in this activity. The final results showed that there is an increasing mean score of post-test on HIV knowledge (0.5), adolescent reproductive health (0.44), and self-esteem (0.39). There are no significant different between pre and post-test for the level of knowledge on HIV, adolescent reproductive health, adolescent risk behavior and self-esteem. Only risky behavior does not demonstrate an increase in the mean score. Providing health education to teenage girls has improved their knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS and adolescent reproductive health and increased adolescent self-esteem. However, these activities did not affect the score of teens’ behavior change. It was due to the duration of health education was not sufficient to change their behavior.

Abstract

Introduction: HIV/AIDS remains a major public health issue, impacting patients' physical, social, and psychological well-being. Psychological effects like anxiety, stress, and depression are prevalent due to stigma, uncertain prognosis, and treatment complexity. Persistent stress weakens the immune system, accelerates disease progression, and reduces quality of life. Psychotherapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), has been widely developed and proven effective in managing these issues. Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of CBT on reducing anxiety, stress, and depression in HIV/AIDS patients. Methods: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methods was used to select articles. Critical Appraisal Skills Programme was used for quality assessment. Discussion: This study reviewed ten articles on CBT's impact. Seven articles discussed CBT, two covered yoga therapy, and one explored mindfulness therapy. Results and Conclusions: CBT effectively reduces anxiety, stress, and depression in HIV/AIDS patients. Combining CBT with other therapies, such as Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Medication Management Algorithm (MMA), and Enhanced Usual Depression Care (EUDC) plus the Healthy Options program, can provide additional benefits. CBT also improves patients' quality of life and has been shown to reduce HIV viral load.

Abstract

Background: Transradial access is a widely used technique during coronary angiography procedures in diagnosing coronary heart disease. Prolonged use of compression bands can cause physical discomfort such as pain, hematoma and radial artery occlusion. Accelerated compression band removal is expected to provide the best balance in achieving hemostasis and minimizing the risk of these complications. Purpose: To determine the effect of early release of compression bands on the risk of complications after transradial coronary angiography. Method: A systematic review conducted based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Articles were sourced from ScienceDirect, Scopus, and ProQuest databases from 2016-2025. Inclusion criteria included studies with randomized controlled trials, quasi-experiments, and cohort studies evaluating the effect of early compression band removal on the incidence of complications of pain, hematoma and radial artery occlusion. Nine studies were assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and presented using a narrative and quantitative approach. Results: The search found 4 studies with randomized controlled trial designs and 5 cohort studies involving a total of 9.854 patients. The study findings showed that the rate of pain, hematoma and radial artery occlusion was lower in the early compression band release protocol (2 hours) compared to a duration of > 4 hours. The risk of bleeding increased with a faster release duration (<2 hours). The analysis showed that the early compression band release protocol was effective in reducing the risk of possible complications. Conclusion: An optimal early compression band release protocol can improve patient comfort and safety and minimize the risk of complications related to transradial coronary angiography procedures. Further studies are needed to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the early compression band release protocol in other procedures that use transradial as the primary access.   Keywords: Complications; Compression Band; Early Discharge; Post Transradial Coronary Angiography.   Pendahuluan: Akses transradial menjadi teknik yang banyak digunakan selama prosedur angiografi koroner dalam mendiagnosis penyakit jantung koroner. Penggunaan gelang kompresi berkepanjangan dapat menimbulkan ketidaknyamanan fisik, seperti nyeri, hematoma, dan oklusi arteri radial.
