The Use of Role Play Method to Increase Students Interest in Learning English After the Implementation of Online Learning due to The Covid-19 Pandemic Husnani Aliah

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the contribution of applying role play method in learning English for the students of SMP Negeri 5 Maiwa. This study tried to find a learning method that can be used to increase student interest in learning after the implementation of online learning due to the covid-19 pandemic. The research used descriptive method. It involved one group of students, which was taught English through role play method. The population was the class VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 Maiwa in first semester 2021/ 2022 academic year. The population consisted of 50 students with two classes.  The research used cluster random sampling by taking only one class as a sample namely class VIII A. The number of sample was 30 students. There are two variables in this research. It consists of independent and dependent variable. The first is the students’ interest as dependent variable and the second is role play method as independent variable. The instrument of the research was questionnaire which was given after teaching learning process in two meetings. The research found that most of the students choose strongly agree(very interested) and agree(interested) in the questionnaire related to the students’ interest in learning English through role play method.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out whether the use of Film Conversation can increase speaking ability. This study was conducted by using pre-experimental research. The population and the sample were the second grade students of SMAN 4 Palopo in 2022/2023 academic year. This research applied quantitative method. The analytical comparison result showed improvement using t-test. The output shows the average before and after the test (-25,640), standard deviation (10,222), mean standard error (2,044). The bottom difference (-29.859), while the top difference (-21,420). The result of the t test = (-23.983) with a df of 24 and a significance of 0,000. Mean score were higher after teaching using Film Conversation. This means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. In conclusion, the use of Film Conversation is an effective strategy that is used to teach class XI of Senior High School Students.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang pengabdian sosial yang bertujuan untuk menyosialisasikan isu pemanasan global kepada anak-anak sekolah dasar. Pemanasan global merupakan fenomena yang semakin mendapat perhatian luas di seluruh dunia karena dampaknya yang serius terhadap lingkungan dan kehidupan manusia. Di Indonesia, sebagai negara kepulauan terbesar di dunia, isu pemanasan global menjadi semakin relevan karena dapat mengancam wilayah pesisir, produktivitas pertanian, dan meningkatkan risiko bencana alam. Pendekatan pengabdian ini dilakukan melalui kunjungan ke dua sekolah dasar, yaitu SD 61 Mario dan MI Datok Pattimang, di mana sosialisasi tentang pemanasan global disampaikan kepada para siswa dengan menggunakan metode yang kreatif dan interaktif. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa metode ini berhasil meningkatkan minat, kesadaran, dan motivasi siswa dalam memahami dan bertindak terhadap isu lingkungan, khususnya pemanasan global. Pengabdian ini juga berhasil menginternalisasi nilai- nilai keberlanjutan dan tanggung jawab terhadap lingkungan di kalangan siswa. Diharapkan bahwa kesadaran dan motivasi yang ditanamkan dalam pengabdian ini dapat bertahan dalam jangka panjang dan membawa dampak positif dalam upaya mengatasi masalah pemanasan global di masa depan.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the improvement of students' vocabulary about nouns (abstract nouns and concrete nouns), verbs (regular verbs and irregular verbs) adjectives (descriptive adjectives). This research method is an experimental method consisting of four meetings thus this research was conducted at SMA NEGERI 4 PALOPO and the subjects in this study were students of class XI IPA 1, from this study the students' scores were mastery of vocabulary through bilingual magazines before using this media in teaching and learning vocabulary, the average score of students was 49 (not good) after using bilingual magazines as a medium for the teaching and learning process increased to 89 (very good). Based on the test results, the researchers found that the correlation P of the post-test at the end of the experiment was greater than (0.01<.05) the test value at the end of the experiment. This indicates that the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted, and the hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It has been established that the use of Bilinguals enhances the effectiveness of the game.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the description of student perceptions in learning and teaching English using the help of the internet,The population or subject of this study were all students of the English language education study program, the Teaching and Education Faculty of the University of Muhammadiyah Palopo. Samples are taken at random, unrestricted or unspecifiedthe number of respondents entered was only 35 students, the research questionnaire totaled 20 statements made in the form of a link and then sent to the whatsapp group chat, sample data collection for this study was by survey technique using Google form media, this study used quantitative descriptive, the instrument used was the Likert model scale and data analysis assisted by using the SPSS version 22 computer, the data results showed an average score for each questionnaire from 3,97 to 4,26 while the average score for the total parts of the questionnaires X1, X2 and Y that is equal to (31,91) , ( 28,40) and (20,03) And it is known that the results of the valid percentage data and the cumulative percentage of 35 respondents according to their perception are 100% strongly agree with the research questionnaire on "Students' perceptions in English teaching and learning by using internet-assisted", then it can be concluded that students have positive perceptions of the research questionnaire.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Task Based Language Teaching (TBLT) Method in improving the speaking ability of second grade students of SMA Negeri 6 Palopo. Task Based Language Teaching is an English language learning approach that uses tasks as the core unit of planning and teaching. In TBLT, students are required to understand the learning material that has been delivered by the teacher, then complete tasks that aim to encourage the use of the target language. This study uses a quasi-quantitative experimental method with data collection techniques in the form of pre-tests and post-tests. The research sample was selected randomly from the student population. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the experimental class using the TBLT Method and the control class using the conventional method based on the results of the independent T-test. Significant improvements were seen in the "Very Good" and "Moderate" categories in the experimental group compared to the control group. Student motivation factors also influenced the results of this improvement.

Abstract

Despite English being a compulsory subject in Thailand, the country's English proficiency remains low. This research explores the relationship between teaching methods and students' perceptions of challenges and opportunities in learning English at Ban Kaeng Sri Phoom School, Thailand. This study aims to understand how teaching methods can be optimized to enhance motivation and effectiveness in learning English in Thailand. By identifying specific challenges faced by students, the research paves the way for developing appropriate solutions. A mixed methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data from questionnaires (administered to students) with qualitative data from classroom observations. The research spanned four months, from July to October 2023. Classroom observations revealed student behaviors that indicated a lack of focus and motivation. Additionally, intellectual diversity among students presented challenges. The questionnaire results provided insights into students' perceptions of learning English, their confidence levels, and the effort they put into their studies. The findings suggest that current teaching methods may not be sufficiently engaging or cater to the diverse needs of students. This highlights the need for teachers to adopt more interactive and individualized approaches. The study also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between teachers, students, and families to create a supportive learning environment.
